Once Mucor had finished looting the bodies of the cultists and loading the dog corpses into his bag, he would look around the room, hoping to find any visible mithrl veins.
(Perception 12)
When Gaelin and Aryn mention harvesting the creature for materials, Mucor will smile. Pulling out his sickle, the minotaur would go to work trying to remove the head of the creature, hacking and cutting away at the flesh and bone. He would also start trying to cut off large sections its hide and toss them at the feet of Aryn. "Perhaps some armor or a cloak could me made from this for you..' Mucor would say with a snort.
***Mucor was totally planning on trying to take the head back with him.. like... how big is the skull? Could it be made into a awesome shield or pauldron?****
@Mucor- he's not dumb and your intent isn't complex so you could make an animal handling check to try to tell him through hand gestures. If you wanted to talk to him you could cast speak with animals. Your too excited to return home to button with all the goodies you have for him to look for other things.
@ Jinara- depends on what you're trying to learn. Investigation- if anything is on/in it. History - its significance Arcana- its purpose
@Aryn & Gaelin- Medicine check for each type of body part (scales, teeth, bones, heart, brain, liver) with advantage if one of you is helping the other.
@Aryn- you find 30 gold and on the statue you find a large black pearl roughly the size of a quarter. You also help Mucor find a large vein of Mithryl.
@Zinmaer- you currently have no idea what he's saying. Maybe he wants you to punch Gaelin.
Mucor would cast speak with animals before turning to zinmaer "Hello friend, Would you like to stay in your form for a while? You can stay that way for an hour? We might be able to use your strength to bring home some mithril.." The minotaur would say with a smile.
Mucor- you take 11 lightning damage as your sickle cuts in the first time. Do you continue? The head is about 8 feet long, 6 feet wide and 6 feet tall. It weighs about 600 lbs.
Gaelin- you are able to discern this is a Behir and safely remove 30 scales, 8 teeth, 20 rib bones and the brain without too much damage to the skull.
So Mucor is hoping to use stone shape x2 to separate the as much of the stone from the metal as possible... hopefully revealing a large (huge?) chunk of the rare metal. Then hopefully the Giant Ape can tear what has been revealed away from the wall and it can get placed in the bag of holding.
(Making spoiler just because I don't know if DM will allow)
Feeling the electric shock, the minotaur would pause for a moment. Seeing the size of the head, Mucor would mutter aloud "Well I don't think I can take that head home for button..." he would say with a sigh.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ape Zin would respond "Might as well use it while we have it!" and begin smashes around the vein trying to obtain as much as possible. (let me know what roll) As he moves over to the vein, Ape Zin would perceive the space. 11
Jinara would want to History and Arcana this thing!
History = 16
Arcana = 22
As a mental aside after we learn that this is a Behir, Jinara would recollect and see if he remembers anything from his studies. History on Behir: 21
Aryn and Mucor manage to find a large vein of Mithryl on the southern wall. Using Stone shape and mold earth Mucor successfully creates an opening around a 4 foot long chunk of the precious metal.
Mucor would cast enhance ability on himself as the muscles in his arms and chest grow even larger. The minotaur will try to help the giant ape remove the metal.
Bull's Strength. The target has advantage on Strength checks, and his or her carrying capacity doubles.
Jinara- This is an early statue of Vaeril holding only half of the artifact known as "Wrathstar". He would later forge the artifact from the blade of a magic sickle (depicted in statue) and star shaped Mithryl shield using blood magic and ancient dwarvish blacksmithing. The artifact, which matches the tattoo & brands on the cultists would turn people within range undead instantly. Vaeril killed over half a million on his quest to control Eraas before he was narrowly beaten and banished from this plane.
You aren't sure of the purpose of the statue other than it has some type of magical properties to it.
The Behir is a creature of the underdark. A flightless dragonkin whose blue dragon ancestors burrowed deep into the rock in search of gems and precious metals. They evolved over time loosing their wings and growing additional arms that would allow them to burrow easier through the rock. Immune to lightning and able to breath lightning in a line these creatures are nearly as fearsome as just as deadly their dragon counterparts. Their bones and scales are light but strong and even once dead their bodies retain a dangerous electrical nature for hours after death.
Zinmaer & Mucor pull on the chunk of metal and at first it doesn't budge. Slowly you hear a small groan from one end of the metal then a loud pop as the heavy piece of metal comes free. Though Mithryl is naturally light the 4 x 3 x 2.5 chunk of metal still weights 150 lbs.
Jinara would pull out a piece of parchment and a begin copying down an image of the statue and the half of the artifact, the word "wrathstar" beside it, the tattoo, and brand. He would also make a short-hand note on the side that the "tattoo/brand would turn people undead within a certain range", "blood magic", "mithryl needed". He would fold the parchment and place it inside his cloak.
After recalling this information, Jinara would begin to mentally process and think "is there a way to harness this creature's strength?" (I would love to figure out a way to harness his resistance/immunity to lightning.)
Jinara- you know it is near impossible without very strong magic to become immune to a type of damage however, using organs & parts of the body of a magical creature that is already immune and magic to imbue an item like a ring, pendant or armor can be done to grant resistance to a type of damage.
(@Gaelin-You are correct. For sake of time...)
Gaelin heats the metal and between Mucor and Zinmaer they are able to smash the metal into 4 pieces that will fit into the bag of holding. As you work you feel a slight tremor and watch as the partially collapsed tunnel that the Behir came through caves in on itself already weakened from previous cave ins. Looking around the large open cavern you don't see any discarded picks, buckets or mining equipment, which is odd because you see the glimmer of a few veins around the area. You have Zinmaer move a few more boulders in front of the rubble just for good measure and head back up to the surface. As you leave the cavern you notice that there isn't a marker to denote you're going up for about 10 minutes. Dismissing it as a fluke you continue up. The journey is long and takes a little over 3 hours as the climb is all uphill and you are tired from your battles. You emerge from the entrance and find the afternoon sun annoyingly bright compared to the dim lit mine. As your vision adjusts you see Inara, Borin and a group of dwarves walking towards you, a look of relief and anxiousness depicted on their faces.
You inform them of what you found which causes a frown to scroll across Borin and Inara's face. Inara commends you on your work and says, "How is he already here? How did he get in and where did the statue come from?" Looking back at Borin, who looks somewhat puzzled by the description of the mine. He explains that there was never a statue discovered and that the cavern we spoke of doesn't exist in his memory. Inara seems distressed by this response and says, "We must discover the meaning of this immediately. Come with me." You follow Inara and Borin to the entrance and Inara casts, Animal Shapes turning each of you into a Giant Eagle. She turns to you and says, "Lead the way." as she and Borin mount two of you. You quickly flap your wings and take off through the mine tunnels weaving around the bends. The descent back to the cavern takes you only 20 minutes. You watch as Inara and Borin observe and inspect the cavern and statue meticulously for an hour. Borin stares at each vein of metal and smiles wide then pauses confused at the sight of the gaping hole in the middle of a vein. He continues his search as Inara walks over to the open SW section of the cavern and pulls out a seed then plants it into the rock. You watch as a large 30 ft tree bursts into existence. Inara reverts you to your normal form and opens a portal to the top of the mine ushering you through quickly. Four new druids stand conversing with the dwarves as you exit the tree portal and Inara says, "Return to your stronghold and rest. Your work for today is done. I will come see you within a week once I am satisfied we know what this structure is."
Jinara would then move over to the tunnel to the East and look and see if it continues. If so, he would recommend we keep moving forward.
(Also what time of day is it? in other words, how close are we to needing a long rest before exhaustion? I know we've been hoofing it (sorry Mucor lol) for hours!)
Mucor would let out a sigh as they are sent home. "I am glad we could be of service... " The minotaur would say with a snort.
(OOC is it possible to melt the mithryl using the heat metal spell? I have an idea of something I wanna try to do with my portion.. unless no one wants any of it... in which case... all of it!)
(Aryn is definitely interested in some mithral but shouldn't need that much for her plans.)
"Let us know if you need more help with anything." Aryn would say as she patted Mucor on the back in an attempt to comfort him for a moment. She would then leave Mucor and walk over to her brother and exhale then breathe in. "He still stinks but he's growin on me." she would whisper.
"Thanks" Mucor would say with a grin and small snort. "If you need anything.. please let me know. I am always willing to listen friend" The minotaur would say with a nod before heading towards home.
