"I am glad we were able to help you and your community" The minotaur would say as they bring out the small chest. At the mention of food however, Mucor would perk up. "Well, I could use a small bite to eat before returning to Daybreak.. The minotaur would say with a smile as he wipes the corner of his mouth with the back of his thick hairy arm.
The crowd continues their applause at the thought of food then suddenly stands quiet as Valeera makes her way down the path. Some kids hide behind their parents while others stare mouth agape in awe of the dragon. Valeera slowly makes her way through the crowd that splits giving her a wide berth. She stands beside the group then turns and faces a small group of kids inching closer before puffing out a little red flame and cloud of smoke that causes the kids to jump back then laugh. The crowd's apprehension fades as they continue their celebration their freedom. The group is taken to a nearby picnic area where various meats, breads, vegetables and fruits are brought out on tables along with a few barrels of ale.
The town erupts into a spirit of fellowship and joy with your group. Valeera and Gaelin help kids climb onto her back and hold tight as Valeera strolls around in a wide loop before letting them slide down her tail. Aryn & Jinara display their ranged talents by having kids toss apples into the air which are quickly skewered by Aryn’s arrows or explode into fruity mist from Jinara’s energy bolts. Mucor gives piggy back rides and allows one small toddler to sit atop his head between his horns nearly the entire time while Zinmaer wrestles and plays tag with some of the children.
As the afternoon sun begins to fade the inhabitants begin to return to their homes periodically and you decide it is time to return to Castle Daybreak. You thank the town for their hospitality, Valeera changes into her human form and you gather around Gaelin who begins to draw the teleportation circle.
You all arrive in the large open room adjacent to the vault within Castle Daybreak and Valeera rushes outside and leaps off the top of the keep battlements transforming back into her dragon form and heads to her den. You make your way into the vault with the small chest in hand and open it revealing 2000 gold pieces and 300 platinum pieces.
Gaelin will leave put his share in the chest vault. Looking to the group he will say, "Good work everyone. That was fun. We should visit that town again some day, hopefully without having to kill a bunch of goblins."
Gaelin would stay for a while with the group before heading to Valeera's den to say goodnight then head to his quarters and pass out.
Mucor would have taken the time to quickly heal anyone that was injured, casting cure wounds on anyone that was hurt during before the festivities. Arriving home, Mucor would nod to his companions before heading back to the grove. Seeking out herbert, Mucor would fine the tortle and smile. "Have we heard anything from our winged friends" he would ask with a snort. "I hope they were able to locate the dragons lair without drawing any negative attention?" The minotaur would ask with a look of concern.
Aryn will take 100 gold and put the rest of her share in the vault. Nodding at her brother she would say, "That was some quick thinkin. I'm impressed." We'll see how we do with the dragon tomorrow." Aryn would pat her brother on the shoulder then leave the room and head to her quarters to rest.
(I've only been keeping track of it when mentioned by myself or others. I have 300 gold & 140 platinum in vault, Gaelin has 400 gold & 110 plat, Mucor has 400 gold and 150 plat. Total of 1100 gold and 400 platinum. I don't have anything for Jinara or Zinmaer.)
"We will not know until the morning. They had a decent journey just getting to Ashvale not to mention trying to find the dragon once they got there. I doubt a dragon would take the time and energy to kill an owl simply for flying nearby." Herbert responds
As you each go your separate ways you eventually find rest. The morning comes and you awake to the smells of delicious foods. You eat and head down to the grove to meet with Herbert. Herbert greets you while he tends to a small section of bushes and you can see the three owls perched in nearby trees. "Gary found the dragon's lair. It is atop a tall mountain roughly 10 miles from Ashvale. I am able to get you within a mile of the cave it appears to inhabit. Gary will accompany you to the entrance of the cave then will head back here. You have at least an hour to make your preparations before I will be able to create the portal for you." Herbert says as he turns and prunes a few limbs from the bush by biting them with his beak.
(Just in case anyone wants to do something in the interim.)
“Do we want Valeera for this? I can see her being very useful but also don’t want any harm to come to her.” Gaelin says to the group. Then turning to Herbert, “what size dragon is this? In comparison to Valeera?” Gaelin asks.
“The dragon is roughly the same size as Valeera. The owl didn’t get close enough to get an exact difference but it appears to be a young dragon.” Herbert responds
"Good job Gary!" Mucor would say as he makes his way over to the owl and gives him a deep nod. "You all have done well" he will say to all three, if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know". The minotaur will say with a smile and a snort before looking to Herbert. "Well a young dragon is sure to be a threat... I would think that with our combined strength that it should not be a problem" Mucor would say looking to his companions. "Now if this young dragon has an adult or two around... well... that might be a problem" He would say as he scratches the scruff under his chin with his large hand. Mucor will eventually make his way into Buttons cave and pay him a visit. "Hello friend, I brought you a couple goblins.. most were pretty messed up so I only picked up these two.. I hope you like them... How is the family coming along? I think we are going to fight a bad dragon tomorrow... not a good dragon like our friend Valeera,"
“I think she could definitely come in handy if there’s anything that needs to be melted but I’d say keep her back and only call her in if we need her. If this dragon is anything like her they’ll have a treasure trove. May be covered in ice but Valeera could melt that away and earn herself some goodies too.” Aryn would say before continuing “although ... she makes a big target too if things go south and she’d be a near equal match for the bastard by herself. Combine that with us and I think this thing may go much easier than just us. Might as well see if she’s interested first. Then we can plan from there.”
“Mucor and I can also heal her. If she’s willing to help might as well.” Gaelin says then heads off towards her den.
“...so we’re leaving again today to go fight a white dragon. Do you want to tag along? The dragon may have treasure hidden.” Gaelin would say to Valeera
"A white dragon? From what my mother said, they are more beast than dragon, they live for the hunt and are extremely hostile to anyone being close by. This will be a difficult foe for your group if I do not accompany you." Valeera says appearing to scoff at the mention of a chromatic dragon being nearby. Upon the mention of treasure her eyes light up with glee. "If there is any treasure I'm sure I can release it from it cold prison. I am ready when you are." Valeera adds as she stands up and comes closer prepared to follow.
You all congregate back at the grove about an hour later and find Herbert methodically pruning and tending to the garden. He greets you and sees you are ready. Valeera shifts into her human form and Herbert opens the portal to the mountain and you feel the cold blowing through the portal. You exit in a snow covered forest high atop a mountain. A cold fog lays low on the ground and casts the immediate area in a haze. Sleet falls periodically and the wind bites against any exposed flesh. (It's freaking cold) In the distance you see two jagged ice peaks with a large blueish-white glacier between them. Valeera reverts back to her dragon form and you feel the warmth radiating off of her body. "Stay close. This cold is not natural. This dragon has had long enough to create himself a lair. There will be many dangers within."
Steam will billow from the minotaurs nostrils as snow and ice cling to the tips of the fur covering much of his body. A layer of frost forming on the outside of this armor. Although he is aware of the cold, Mucor feels quite comfortable in the snow. The large creature will take a moment to adjust the Ring of Warmth on his finger before pushing forward towards the lair.
(So I am kind of excited to actually use the ring of warmth... I normally consider it to be kind of a waste because of how niche it is and since it requires attunement.)
Ring of Warmth
While wearing this ring, you have resistance to cold damage. In addition, you and everything you wear and carry are unharmed by temperatures as low as −50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Aryn will huddle close to Valeera and say, "Alright Gary, Mucor, someone... lead the way so we can get this over with. I'm hungry for a bowl of hot soup already."
