Mucor would make his way up towards the mouth of the cave, motioning to his companions to stay back away from the area with the razor sharp fungi. "So do want to try to lure them out into my garden I have setup here? Or you want me to get rid of it, loot these guys, and we go in and pay them a visit?" The minotaur will say pointing to the dead orcs with his staff, causing their still warm bodies to start growing mushrooms.
Quentin can't make out what they are saying in orcish which sounds basically like grunting and burps. From what you can tell there are between 3-8 orcs inside.
"The ground's kind of littered with dead bodies, big guy." She says in reply to Mucor's suggestion, "Besides, I bet Onyx here'll be in his element" Yera nudges the duergar playfully with her elbow. "I say we sneak in and single out their leader before they can mount a resistance."
"Sounds good!" and with a wave of his hand the spike growth disappears and Mucor moves to loot the bodies and start creating a mushroom farm out of their corpses.
Quentin leans in closer toward his companions, whispering very quietly. "I can't quite make out what they're sayin' in there, but I reckon there's somewhere 'tween three t'maybe even eight of them bastards in there. I say 'spect a good half-dozen and they won't catch ya unawares like."
(For group stealth I usually use an adjusted average based on the groups aggregate rolls compared to the creature's passive perception. Basically as long as majority pass and no nat 1's occur its a success.)
You quietly walk 30 feet into the cave before it curves to the right and you can see roughly 90-100 feet deeper into the cave 4 orcs congregated around a campfire with a slaughtered animal roasting on a spit. They seem to be enthralled in their conversation waving their hands full of meat and mugs of some kind of liquid. They do not seem to notice your presence.
"kaw" trying his darnedest to be quiet, Grunting will mutter (I can try to shoot one of them or quentin can.) He riffles out his bow and gets lower to the ground.
"Most of my spells would effect multiple targets but can also hurt any of one else close by" The minotaur will say hanging his head. "I can cast spike growth again at the opening to their room and you can attack them with ranged weapons... and if they come towards us they will hit the spikes..." Mucor will say looking to each of you.. "Or those of us that wanna get in close can just charge in while those of you that wanna fire from range can let loose... Whatever you wall wanna do..."
"We don't know how many are in the rest of the cave, so it'd be safer if we fired on them from afar" Glancing over towards Mucor with a serious look on her face, Yera continues, "The spikes on the ground will get them when they try to approach us, and if they get beyond that point, Onyx and I shouldn't have any trouble dealing with them. And if any other enemies that are further along in the cave are alerted, they'll still have to get by the spikes." She rests her chin on clasped hands, "Thoughts?"
Quentin narrows his eyes as he surveys the scene, his usual smiling and effervescent demeanor more subdued and somber with the enemy so nearby. The rogue rubs a hand on his scruffy chin thoughtfully and nods his head in response to his companion's strategy.
"Yeah," He whispers quietly, "I reckon that'd be a sound plan. We can bottle-neck'em right over yonder-" Quentin points along the tunnel before it opens up into their cooking area, " with Mucor's thorns an' rain some hellfire on em' afore they get into bitin' and spittin' distance. We jes' gotta be careful one or two don't go high tailin' it for the others."
Onyx had to brace himself from simply chasing forward and starting the conflict, but if the talking went on much longer he might do just that. "I'd like to be able to crack a few orcs open meself. Not quite enjoying running at them only for them to die before I get there. And do not be muttering a word about me needing the exercise. "
"What if I let a couple of us run ahead and get into melee and lay down the spikes behind ya to prevent them from getting to the others" Mucor will say to Onyx and then look to the others. "those of us with ranged weapons could open up on them as the rest run in while they are suprised"
Gabriel joins the conversation, his voice low. "I could use my fell gift and cast myself in a necrotic shroud after sneaking into the center of the group. Orcs are a superstitious lot, and with a change in the color of the fire and my own grim visage we could wreak havoc among them."
Necrotic Shroud: Once per long rest as an action, you can transform, causing all within 10 ft. to make a CHA saving throw (DC 10) or be frightened of you until the end of your next turn. This lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. Once on your turn you can have one attack or spell deal 4 points of extra necrotic damage to one target.
