Wouldn't you know it, everyone except Kai failed the save.
Elber: 12 The character experiences vivid hallucinations and has disadvantage on Ability Checks.
Jack: 33 The character regards something (usually the source of madness) with intense revulsion, as if affected by the antipathy effect of the Antipathy/Sympathy spell.
Landrae: 35 The character regards something (usually the source of madness) with intense revulsion, as if affected by the antipathy effect of the Antipathy/Sympathy spell.
Duncan: 15 The character experiences vivid hallucinations and has disadvantage on Ability Checks.
Jack feels like he is going crazy in his head, he can’t focus on what people are saying, he just keeps hearing the grotesque gibberish noises. His thoughts are sane, at least he thinks they are. He puts himself to work and motions to Duncan to join him upstairs to clear the rest of the house. “Just don’t talk to me, your voice sounds...odd. I think those things put a spell on me.”
((since hallucinations constantly would be a bit too much for RP, anytime I do anything for the next 10 hours (please tell me when that has passed) I'll roll a DC 15 Wis Save. If I pass, I shake off the hallucination, if I don't, I'll RP something. Sound fair?))
WIS SAVE: 7 - first, fail
As Jack says that to Duncan he is turning into a room in the house to explore and sees another one of the monstrosities! Running at it he swings his glaive Attack: 21 Damage: 4 ((Let me know if I hit anything, and if so what it was))
((Oh wow, words causing madness... landrae is going to send herself do-lally! Time for some fun))
((@JJ what time are we on now, I figure we haven't been in the house for more than an hour, so it's just the travel time that will effect us getting back for 18:00))
Landrae hears Jack say something, but she is distracted and can't shift the scenes of the slaughter from her mind, those foul creatures, the walls are painted in their gore, running down and thick across the floor after Elber sliced, Jack pierced, Kai cut, and Duncan stove the head of one... Even her own arrows were now flecked with the slime that ebbed from those mortal wounds. As she tried to clean her quiver, her hands felt clammy, she couldn't gain purchase to clean the slime away. Then it seems to evaporate, and the walls are no longer covered in the seeping goop. There is silence. There is reality... A moment passes as her mind takes in the delusion, Landrae starts to speak "What's going on...?", but as the words pass from her lips, the gore starts to run again... She stifles a scream, dreading the effect it might have. Never before have words hurt her so much! That thought triggers a spark in her mind... How ironic that her favourite tool should now cause her such true discomfort and anguish. Landrae can only smile at that. She takes out her dagger then is interrupted hearing a clamour from upstairs, and in her distraction spins round, knocking her dagger into the mechanism and shattering one of the glass tubes. Landrae jumps back, she slows her mind, and tries to calm herself, returning her dagger, holding up her hands to cover her ears and shaking her head, trying to disuade any of her comrades from coming to her.
Insight: 21 ((Post coming in edit, but I need a roll to see where it goes.))
Elber was starting to worry that the creatures lying on the floor might actually have been the twisted remains of friends from his disbanded mercenary company, when Landrae's sudden yelp and the shattering of glass snaps him back to attention.
"What..." Seeing her recoil and cover her head in fear, he instead glances to Kai, who seems equally surprised but still himself. Turning back to the alchemist he spits words at him through clenched teeth and rips him up from the floor, with chair and all, to knock him out with a swift headbutt. "Get out of our heads!"
Landrae kneels, reviling the killing, the slaughter of those monster's. She see's Elber headbutt Fosa, and his words resound in her mind...'our heads' as though he grasps something that Landrae yet doesn't. Heads, like the one Duncan caved in with the butt of his glaive, if those creatures could even anatomically have defined 'heads', their broken bodies littering the floor. Landrae feels disgust at what she has done, a welling nausea in her gut... She has never been squeamish before, and though rare, is not naive to the appearance of broken bones or let blood. Something feels wrong to her mind, but she starts to reclaim her thoughts. The aftermath is not unbearable, though perhaps leaving it like this is wrong? Landrae looks at the unconscious, insane Fosa, Elber standing over him, then moves to his creations and starts to pile the bodies. "Maybe we should burn them..." As the words tumble from her lips, a stronger case of nausea hits, the image of fire and the smell that permeates the air from it are too much, and Landrae wretches.
<< I guess I couldn't discover anything about the origin of the creatures? And what I wouldn't give to have Sleep or the Vulcan pinch>> Sti
Noting the erratic behavior of his companions, Kai wonders if it is the creatures themselves which give rise to the effects, or their death. Either way, it may explain the poor alchemists condition. Still, with his companions erratic behavior, Kai decides his first priority is to secure the room, and so he take the lock off the outside of the door, attempts to break the latch with his hand ax so that it cannot be locked from the outside . Closes and barricade/jamb the door.
After casting resistance on himself, he drags the bodies of the creature back in their cell.
That task done, he thinks back on his training, considering if a charm person spell might be used to put one of more of his companions to rest.
When Fosa has been temporarily 'dealt with', Elber joins Kai in dragging the creatures into their cell, though he is clearly more hesitant to handle the corpses than expected of a violent barbarian tribesman. "Thank you for doing this, Kai. Though they be not who they remind me of, this be like putting them to rest." He says softly, to not startle Landrae who seems to stay away from the mere possibility of words. "You still seem collected, more so than I do. Can you offer some protection or cure?"
((I'm operating under the assumption that there's not been any continuing racket from upstairs for the time being, and that Elber missed the first instance of it because of Landrae's timing on her little episode.))
Kai gently removes the Alchemist from Elber's grasp, "He must answer for his crimes. And I suspect he is but a pawn in this horror. See how he suffers. Let me put him where he may do no more harm, for the time being." Then he helps the groggy Alchemist into the cell and closes and bars/locks the door. "It is time to rest, my friends. Go each of you to a corner and make yourselves comfortable. Rest, sleep, and I shall be watchful."
Kai watches to see who can follow his instructions, and one by one helps those who cannot into a corner and does his best to make them comfortable.
Assuming that succeeds, I will cast Detect Magic as a ritual.
Kai closes his eyes and becomes one with the ethereal world of magic around him. Scouring the room for traces of magic he detects a faint red aura emanating from the circle of runes engraved into the floor, the candles scattered haphazardly where you kicked them aside. A summoning circle.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((So did Duncan attack me or <hopefully> a piece of furniture?))
We were heading upstairs to inspect the top floor, not sure how far we got before Duncan went a little mad. Just so we can move this along I will inspect the two doors for traps and will figure out what Jack does after his wild swing. (Not sure how to role play this whole thing out but will give it a go)

Elber: Your madness condition lasts 2 hours
Jack: Your madness condition lasts 7 hours
Landrae: Your madness condition lasts 4 hours
Duncan: Your madness condition lasts 10 hours
(Jack and Landrae, in this instance your source of madness will be spoken words. Whenever anyone speaks all you can remember is horrific gibbering)
