Jackson allows the more stealthy members of the party to move forward, following at the back at all times. (OOC: Whenever stealth is required, Jackson will stay at the back and allow for the stealthy ones to move in front -- unless otherwise stated.)

The man sitting at the desk is short and has a dark beard. He does not have a red cloak on, but rather very nice white robes with dark trimming. You cannot discern much about the staff at the moment, other than it is no ordinary staff. As the group surveys the man from the slightly open door, Sildar makes a sudden gasping sound and lightly says "Iarno." Hearing his name, he looks over his shoulder, sees the group, and immediately grabs his staff.

Harukai moves quickly into the room and adjusts so he is adjacent to “Iarno” and between him and any other exits from the room. He holds his glowing sword at the ready, saying “Stand down or be neutralized.”

Nephrius jumps from the shadows, attacking furiously with her short swords. Iarno takes heave damage from her blows and, surprised by the sudden attack, throws down his staff and raises his hands "I yield, I yield."
OOC: The room is on the smaller side and a normal door is on the southern side of the room and is currently closed (the secret door is on the eastern side).
Sildar says to the group "I apologize for breaking our cover but seeing him took me by surprise. The townmaster has holding cells in the townhall. I would like to request that we take him there for holding until we can figure out what is behind all of this."
Jackson will first take his hempen rope and bind the wizard's hands, later gathering up Iarno's staff and handing it to Harukai for inspection. He'll then put his hand on Sildar's shoulder in acknowledgment. "I'm sorry we were forced to find your friend this way."
He'll then stow his shield and move to the opposite door to take a peek out of it, ensuring no one will be disturbing them while Sildar and the others question Iarno.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nephrius will pace behind Larno with both her swords still drawn looking over at her friends who were hit by magic "Are you good?" growling quietly to herself listening to whatever the wizard says to see if hes a liar.
The other room is a small labratory. A rat squeaks loudly and runs under a table at the sight of Jackson looking into the room. No other individuals are in the room.
Jackson will move into the laboratory to secure it completely while Sildar interrogates Iarno. Jackson will also look around to see if he can find anything of value before heading back to the group, making note of all the exits in the lab.
The laboratory has one exit door, currently closed. The lab has no items of value except three small vials containing rare elements that could possibly be sold for alchemy use.
In Iarno's chambers you see his desk, bed, and a treasure chest at the foot of the bed. On the desk is a letter that says:
Lord Albrek,
My spies in Neverwinter tell me that strangers are due to arrive in Phandalin. They could be working for the dwarves. Capture them if you can, kill them if you must, but don’t allow them to upset our plans. See that any dwarven maps in their possession are delivered to me with haste. I’m counting on you, Iarno. Don’t disappoint me.
It is signed only with a picture of a black spider.
Sildar pulls his dagger and sticks it to Iarno's neck "Who is this letter from? What plans do they have? Why did you betray the Alliance?"
Iarno says "Stop Sildar! Stop! You have me imprisoned, I will tell you what I know."
Sildar yells "Talk!"
Iarno says "The person responsible for all of this is called the Black Spider, he is a dark elf who sent bugbears here to organize the goblins into keeping Phandalin under his control while he finds the cave of the Phandelver's Pact so he can use its magic to make his own items and weapons. I went into business with him and was able to create the redbrands as a way to keep the townsfolk in line and also to extort money. I was supposed to get access to the magic cave as well."
When asked about the castle Iarno does not know the way, only that goblins know the way there.
Sildar says "I need to take him to the townmaster for holding until we can send him to Neverwinter. We should also clear this hideout to remove the redbrand threat to the town. We can all go and return or I can go and return, whatever the group wishes."
Sildar and Iarno's stories seem legit.
Harukai examines the staff and when picked up it seems to make you seem slightly more aware of happenings around you and could avoid attacks in battle somewhat better.
Harukai furrows his brow, speaking up and saying, "His story has the ring of truth to it, with greed for magic items appearing to overwhelm his sense of right and wrong." Turning to Sildar, he adds, "I defer to your judgement on what to do with your former ally, but recall what you have already told us about the townmaster's disinterest in the redbrands--he could be involved in this conspiracy as well..."
He adds, "As for this staff, it seems to have some magical defensive properties, but I am untrained in identifying such things. Does anyone else wish to carry it?"

After taking nothing from the lab, Jackson will get back to the room where Iarno is being held, walking in at the tail end of Sildar's interrogation. The only part Jackson hears is Sildar asking what he should do with Iarno, later listening intently to what Harukai has to say. Jackson responds, "I do believe Harukai, Nil, Neph and I can take care of these brigands. We will do what we can here while you take Iarno away for holding. Return to us when the task is done."
Jackson will pat Iarno down to make sure he has nothing on him that could give him an advantage over Sildar. With Iarno's hands already bound by Jackson's rope, Jackson will also look around the room to see if he can find anything that could temporarily gag the wizard and prevent him from spellcasting at all.
(OOC: I'm not sure if we looked around the room yet for anything interesting; if we haven't Jackson will do that once Iarno is taken away out of the room.)
OOC: Sounds like a good plan to me, and would let the PC's take the lead. Harukai will keep the staff for now unless someone else wants to use it--I am guessing it is some kind of arcane staff since Iarno was throwing magic missiles, but Harukai is not trained enough to know such things...If someone could identify it, I will be able to temporarily add it to my character sheet until we decide what to do with it.

Sildar says “you may be correct in the assessmentof the townmaster” to Iarno “was he involved in your plot?”
Iarno says “No, he is just a coward who feared retaliation from our group.”
Sildar says “I may be able to find alternate means of securing him with some other townsfolk. I will meet you back at the inn. As a representative of the Lord’s Alliance I urge you to quell this redbrand nonsense by whatever means is necessary and find any evidence of. this goblin castle so we can rescue Gundren before its too late”
Once Sildar departs with Iarno Jackson searches the room and in the wooden cheast finds the best pickings of the Redbrands’ loot over the last two months. It contains 180 sp, 130 gp, and a silk pouch containing five carnelians (10 gp each), two peridots (15 gp each), and one pearl (100 gp). It also contains two magic items that Iarno brought with him from Neverwinter: a scroll of charm personand a scroll of fireball.

"Brother Greystone, if you can give me a few more minutes and can bind my wounds, I should be able to use this staff to best advantage."
Offering the Moonsword to Nilparin and Nephrius, he says, "One of you should use this to give us light, at least until we decide what to do with this staff."
OOC: Assuming people are good to allow Harukai to rest a bit while the searching is going on, he will attune the staff and spend a HD -- 9
