Arriving at Barthen's, you discover that he has most of the necessities for traveling or adventuring - rope, lanterns, rations, etc. He does not, however, carry healing potions. "If you're lucky, Sister Garaela will have some. If not, well then," he says with a shrug.
Delg, as you turn to leave with the others, you notice Mulligan pulling out a book. You only get a quick glance, but the writing is definitely Dwarvish. (Barthen's doesn't deal in jewelry, but tells you that Halia at the Miner's Exchange will definitely be interested.)
The Coster typically has armor and weapons (non-magical), but it's possible Linene may have gotten her hands on something, if you want to stop by and ask her.
Delg digs through his pack. After a moment he walks over to Mulligan. "The book. Is there something like this in the front?" He holds out a bit of paper with his cousin's name written in Dwarvish.
Mulligan and Delg look at the paper and the book. Mulligan - the symbols don't match, you can tell that immediately. Delg - you recognize the writing as Dwarvish and can make out the title - written on the cover is "The Journal of Urmon". Flipping through the book, it appears to be the journal of an adventurer. ((Are you intending to read through the journal or just skim through it quickly?))
Delg - you don't remember hearing about Urmon specifically, but glancing through the beginning of the journal, it mentions the Lost Mine of Phandelver and the Forge of Spells, which you know is ancient history - over 500 years ago.
"Journal to belong to one named Urmon. Not of my kin. But it mentions the Forge of Spells, and the Lost Mine of Phandelver, and that I've heard of. Bit over a generation back. 500 years, give or take. Might be why my cousin came to be here. I admit I had not put that together when I came looking for him. Kin on his other side not the most talkative. You find this down in the caves? In the mage's room?"
Delg - let me know if you are going to skim or read thoroughly.
The rest of the party was heading out to get supplies. Barthen directed you to Sister Garaela for healing potions and the Coster for armor/weapons. Halia at the Miner's Exchange will likely be interested in any gems or jewelry.
Delg will follow the others to the shops. He wants an backup healing potion and to try and sell the jewels. He'll read a page at a time at the shops as he waits for the others to buy their wares. So slow but through.
He'll walk up to Melkias. "You say you know of jewels. Be best for all to get as much as we can for these. I hold, you talk?"
((There are no healing potions to be found - Sister Garaela is the only supplier and she is currently out))
Delg -
Reading through the journal, you glean the following: More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin prospered as well. But disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost. Urmon also records that a magic mace named Lightbringer was commissioned by priests of Lathander, the god of dawn, from the mages working with the gnomes and dwarves of the Phandelver's Pact. The mace was lost when Wave Echo Cave and its mine vanished from history.
Melkias - are you going to head up the exchange with Halia for the jewels/gems?
(Melkias will indeed go with Delg to trade in the gems, as per the agreement. Thanks for remembering I just about forgot. He'll bring his charisma with him.)

((There is no 'magic shop' as such in Phandalin))

"Oh! Let me see that." Mulligan says, holding the cover of the book out to compare it to Delg's paper.

((I'm going to look at the first five pages as we walk to try and get a sense of how old it is. Have I heard of Urmon?))

"Yeah, it was just sitting there. I grabbed a few of his books on our way out. I was hoping for some magic stuff, but this is good too."
"If you want, I'll finish reading this. See how it can help us. Might give us a location for Gundren. Or the mage."
Mulligan gives the book to Delg. "Tell me if you find something good!"

ooc: who wanted to SELL jewelery? Otherwise, since no healing potions are to be found, Ajax is ready to leave, direction Thunderthing
ooc: Delg wants to get rid of the gems and earrings he picked up from the Redbrands, and think the mage too.

Ajax decides that the gods must be thanked for their recent achievement and he must pray for th ventures to come
Please return to the temple of Luck when you are ready to go, you will find me there.
cmon guys let's sell these damn gems and let's go!!!
Raya is rearing to go as well. She will head to the Temple of Luck to wait with Ajax.
((No problem))
Delg holds out his hand with the gems. There is a pair of ruby earrings (30 gp), 5 carnelians (10gp), 2 peridots (15 gp), 1 pearl (100 gp).
"I have a cousin, three times removed. Named Vestri. Call me that when you want me to hand these over, so I know you're done bargaining."
Melkias eyes them and nods in approval.
"Aye, those will do nicely. Now, lets see what we can fetch for these lovelies."
He motions for Delg to follow and makes his way to the shop.
