Oooh, old meat, but smells nice. Smells salty. Gimme gimme gimme. The creature moves from behind the rock and walks hesitantly north for a few paces, then seems to get startled and retreats back behind its hiding place. Throw meat. Throw throw. The large eye peeks out from behind the rock, and fixes on Strix, and then on Dario as he nocks an arrow. Tell secrets for meat. The whiny note in its voice suggests it's offering a trade.
Strix, you manage to toss the meat just over the crevasse; it lands on B9. The creature scuttles out from behind its large rock, grabs the meat, and scurries back; it really doesn't remind you of how any animal that you know would move, it's so alien and unfamiliar. But it doesn't appear to be threatening.
Once back in the relative safety and cover of its stone hiding place, you hear: Ooh, clever little owl, so very clever. Thank you thank you. It's so nice to be back in a nice cave, isn't it? So nice and comfy, just like before. Before Chorster took you away. So very nice. Such a nice cave. Glasstaff likes it a lot. He talks and talks and sometimes he forgets that I listen... All through this you hear the sounds of the meat being devoured while the words enter your heads telepathically. The creature pops out from behind its rock just a moment longer, and holds out its hand to indicate it wants more.
If any of you wish to launch a surprise attack while the creature scuttles about, that would also be an option and would interrupt the description above. I'm not trying to push you in any particular direction, just want to make it clear you have the option without breaking the description into lots of smaller pieces.
Dekhan will take his rations out of his pack and hold up some saltbeef. Give us a secret for that mouse and you can have some more. What do we want to ask this creepy little cutie?
I gather being stealthy is not really that important since it can see into our noggins. Lucky for me since I just stubbed my toe on a rock and yelled OW!. How I make it through a day is a constant surprise to me. Well, you're still to get through this one, idiot. Oh Gods is it listening to my pathetic whining right now? LAH LAH LAH Umm Hello Mr Eyeball. Don't mind me. *Whistles in head nonchalantly* Varinth thinks
Scupper still whispering barely audible to himself but now in a mockery of the creatures voice, "oh great and wise eyeball, where is the lost mine so that we may rescue our dwarven employer?" He draws his bow hoping things move with more speed. And continues his near silent conversation with himself. "But Scupper, what if the creature has powers? C'mon lads...the creature has an appetite and little else. Let's be about our business."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Suddenly the creature gives a loud hiss; it's the first sound you've actually heard it make, rather than projecting telepathically into your minds. The eye appears over the rock and seems to be looking in the direction of Vaz and Scupper. Another hiss, and the creature takes one step, and another, and leaps down into the crevasse. You can no longer see it, though it's not clear if it is still there and hiding, or has left somehow.
Scupper backs up toward the direction of the secret door to take up a more defensive position. Passing Varinth, he whispers, "C'mon Vaz, the hunt is on and I tink we're the prey. What say we light this place up." He grabs a oil lamp from the wall and throws it to the ground in front of them hoping to create a wall of fire for it to cross.
"I don't know if it's magic or stealth but I don't like the feeling o' this anymore..."

Strix is careful not to get to close to the edge of that crevasse. For a lookout, this thing is awful eager to talk to unexpected guests.

If I am trying to hide wouldn't it be a stealth check?

It's something else.

Dekhan, make another Deception check.

The area is still. There seems to be no communication from the creature, either through sound or telepathy. You cannot see it.
What would you like to do?
