Dekhan turns his head involuntarily towards his telepathic friend, then back to the tunnel Scupper has traveled down. With a silent sigh he heads back over to Vas and Varinth. How bad is it Vaz? he asks as he begins to inspect his friend's wounds. Medicine check 6
Varinth is badly injured and in need of healing; you think that any fight now might be deadly for him.
Scupper, there are two people up ahead in the shadows; your darkvision enables you to see them before they see you, and you are being incredibly stealthy at the moment. They haven't spotted you, but they are clearly on the lookout for something.
No obvious markings on the door, Strix, though you're not familiar enough with thieves' markings to be sure if the odd scratch is intentional or meaningful or not. You head back.
Scupper, you can get close enough to listen, but they're not talking much. You wait...
Got any more jerky? asks one.
Nah, that was the last, the other replies.
The first swears under his breath.
And they resume their lookout. They're wearing standard leather armour, the sort you might wear if you were a thief or a gang member who wanted to look like a thief, or indeed a watch officer who wanted to look like a thief.
Scupper sneaks back to the group to relate what he’s seen and the two possibilities: Fire gang in disguise or a couple of thieves he could maybe talk to.
This is an interesting development, Scup... Do you think they might be guards pretending to be thieves? Should we approach them? See what we can find out?
If they’re guards, Dek, they’re in for a terrible time...but we could also interrogate. If they be tieves, then I’m kickin meself for not having thought of contacting the guild sooner and thatd be good craic, as well, sure.
Well if yer feeling up to it, we'll go talk at these fellas down the sewer. Meanwise, ye may want to see if you know this fella in another invite.
He hands Vaz the invite he found on the captain: "an envelope which contains a beautifully handwritten note, addressed to a 'Master Tren Commarat', inviting them to attend a gala at the Divlayne residence in Waterdeep a few nights from now. You recall that Varinth showed you an almost identical invitation addressed to him, that was left by the presumed kidnappers of Soodi."
Incantis opts for his usual silent telepathy. "I still think this invite is worth looking into, but Scup I know your specialty is the subtle extraction of information so you've my backing and support."He stays back with Vaz, wishing he had any powers of healing still yet to bear, and sends Zhudala, newly summoned and invisible, forward to help scout these two men. He smile-frowns his sympathies to Strix. "Door next."

Dekhan moves to back Scupper's play. He stands behind his halfling friend Ah yes, the western ducts are truly a sight to behold this time of year. He smiles reassuredly at the two men as he falls into an easy, relaxed posture.
Strix hangs back from following Scupper and Dekhan, getting no more than around 30ft from the door back to Vaz and Inky, a little wary that there's a whole town up above them and with the state they're in any child in the street could hit them from the rear and wipe them out. He leans up against the sewer wall, curling his hand through the shadows for comfort, head snapping back and forth between the door and the parley.
Scupper, you see the half-elf and human men more clearly as you get closer this time; they look bored and tired, and if anything they brighten up at your approach rather than looking alarmed.
Morning, friend, one says to you, Scupper. And morning, other friend, he says to Dekhan who seems to give a very different first impression. Finest sewers in the Sword Coast, or so they say, and I'll not have any Neverwhingers say otherwise.
Me and my friend here, we're down here for the purposes of looking out for trouble, and also staying out of trouble. Instructions were very clear on that. So it's been a fine line all day, hasn't it. His friend nods. Seen any trouble around these parts, have you?
Scupper again throws some thieve’s cant to the extent of “trouble with fire magic but taken care of”
”Aye to be sure lads, but no...trouble seems to avoid me, thank the gods. You with the Watch, then or of a more private organization...a guild perhaps? Times like these, seems everyone has to watch out for they own.”

Scupper continues to move up letting his curiosity and belief in his stealth get the better of him

Strix will pad down to the door, check it for any kind of obvious markings, then report back.

Can I get close enough to listen? Do they appear to have the uniforms of the fire gang or just appear to be thieves?

Strix mutters "door", a bit put out that his exciting discovery is not as interesting as Scupper's.

Varinth fumbles around gingerly, looking for his "medicine".
By the gods, Vaz! Is that wine or blood all over ye?!
Lil' from column A. Lil' from column B Varinth smiles showing blood covered teeth.

Scupper will opt to casually stroll towards the two men this time.
“Lovely day te be about the sewers eh lads? Nothing like the smell o’ fresh shite in the morning.”
He uses a bit of thieves can’t afterward to acknowledge guild respect.
