Despite the silence, Gavin assumed that this group would help him out so he joined them and continued into the shallows. He shivers, the fog so thick and hearing only the whistling wind and groaning trees as he gets a little more nervous. He could feel as he was tripping on all the roots, just glad that it wasn't snakes that were beneath him after all. It also did not help that the mud was getting deeper, up to his shins and staining his white robes. It seemed like it was getting a little darker too, knowing that something is definitely not right about all this and finding the path becoming harder to keep track of. Then Gavin was surprised, thinking that he saw figures darting around as he looked around. Could they be other adventurers, or something deadly? He heard as others said to get ready and not look for the foe directly, to let them come and be ready for it, claiming that they are here to look for shadow sap. That makes sense since if those are dangerous or undead, it would not be good to say that they are looking to stop them after all. So Gavin nodded, holding up his shield close as he kept an eye out and being ready for whatever happens next.
Gerald pays particular attention to the back of the group, making sure that Beetlejuice and he are not surprised form that direction. 'Metalman, I have our rear covered, sing out if anything comes from the front. Tarvis when you say make ready... you mean shoot first or ...'
OCC: Sorry Gavin I missed your post.
Seeing the newcomer glance distastefully at his soiled robes Gerald nervously mutters under his breath and flicks a hand out in his direction causing his robes to be made spotless and smell faintly of lemons. 'The cleaning is easy, course not much point to it in a swamp as it just gets dirty again but at least we can rest comfortably in the evenings' he pipes up 'and yes I talk a lot even being nervous doesn't shut me up' He looks around apologetically
Gerald glances to the front at the new noise but quickly returns his gaze to the rear, anticipating an attack he readies himself to respond with an eldritch blast should something meet his expectations

Saryn stretches and yawns loudly, rousing slowly from the deep slumber the previous days hunt and subsequent feast had brought on. As she became more aware of her surroundings something seemed off. The usual sounds and smells of the Feywild did not greet her as normal. She grabbed up her stone battleaxe, muttered a brief prayer to Baervan Wildwanderer, and stepped out from the tree hollow. But glancing around confirmed her suspicions that this was not the tree she had fallen asleep under. She scans her surroundings for any indication of where she is.
Shirin shakes his head at everyone and pats them on the shoulders. He doesn't want to feel invasive to them so he quickly hands them his card and gets everyone around attention to look at the card. After he takes Gerald's hand, and shakes his head at him. "No magic. We are not in our home, we are in theirs. Talk first, and if that doesn't work we can fight. Also hunting shadows are not effective, let whatever out there go. Tell the others to take a deep breath and relax. If it wants to watch us, let it but we can watch it as well. So be at peace my companion, no rash spells or decisions."
'OK, Shirin reckons shadows are no threat and to just chill, we is guests in their home and it would be rude to start flinging magic around without talking first... magic can always come later. Them watching doesn't hurt us... Hey does that mean their voyeurs? Anyway that's His input, me I got no idea and am happy to follow the party lead but I tell you this neither Beetle nor me is getting bushwacked.' So saying Gerald relaxes a bit, about 70 on the oh shit metre but maintains his readiness to respond and guards Beetles' back
OCC: Gerald is mostly a 'shits n giggles' kinda guy but isn't willing or confident enough to take a leading role, far more a reactive personality but loyal to those he arbitrarily labels his friends
Gavin was surprised as his robes no longer were stained and smelled of lemons, hearing Gerald. "Thank you very much." he said back to him, nodding and smiling a bit. But then he could no longer see the figures, hearing noise of what sounds like a wagon or cart moving. How could someone possibly take a wagon out here and be able to properly drive it with the deep mud? He then was surprised as he got a card, reading it and seeing that the guy who handed them out was deaf/mute. He listened as Gerald told them what Shirin thought, to not risk using any magic for now and to try to talk first. "I-I think that sounds like a good idea, to trying talking first and hope maybe they are friendly before determining if they are enemies wanting to hurt us and attacking."Gavin had said back as he nodded in agreement, keeping an eye out for if the noise gets closer and wondering who or what is approaching them.
A halfling atop a donkey pulling a cart drifts through the fog. On the back of the cart are two halfling men digging through two rather large sacks filled to the brim with who knows what.
IN Halfling Gerald greets his brethren 'HO cousins, what do you in this dark swamp and what can you tell us of the dangers therein? Also Sap Shadow and Dead Walkers are of interest to us... oh yeah and if you could answer in common and tell Tarvis the elf cause I think he is our leader and biggies rarely bother to learn the truespeech.' Gerald smiles self satisfiedly at both his attempt at diplomacy and also his effort to pass the buck. 'See Shirin and Tarvis, no magic, still no stealth though'
A very large Goliath also approaches the group from the rear waving to get their attention. He has the bearing a neophyte monk and the only apparent weapon he has is a staff that is strung across his back as though it is used as a walking stick rather than a weapon. His knuckles and hands look heavily calloused as though he has spent his days punching boulders. He has very simple clothing on as well, since he wears no armor. "Greetings, I am Dennar and I was wondering if you might be in need of any help?"
'Hey Big Biggun, you any good with eye corner shadows? Also how are you with undead cause Pristine here wants to hit some, though if you hit them and they splatter you might get smelly, of course we are in a swamp and so you smell anyway... er smellier is what I meant I guess...' Geralds inane chatter winds down as it slowly occurs to him the Halflings on the wagon haven't responded. "Hey Gavin those halflings on the wagon, have you checked that they aren't these undead you are looking for? Seems sus they're using a wagon in a swamp and Halflings are tricksy bastids, I should know I am one, course we not as bad as gnomes but still ooh and a zombie donkey that's new and different'
OOC: Has anyone read Diskworlds Hogfather? As I started naming people Big Biggun I wanted to do the whole "and then there was not as big as big dave, medium dave, other dave " type naming convention but thought that would get old fast, scary where your mind takes you sometimes lol

Gavin could see as it was a halfling pulling along a cart filled with other halflings inside, surprised and hearing Gerald try to talk to them in a language that he did not know. Then he saw as a Goliath came up behind them, asking if they need any help. He was about to say something when Gerald spoke up, calling him Pristine and talking about being smelly. "Y-Yes, like what he said. We could really use the help, if you don't mind Dennar." Gavin had said back to him, nodding and bowing in greeting. But then he heard Gerald ask if he has checked out whether the halflings are the undead that he is looking for, since they're using a wagon in a swamp and known for being tricky. "I-I'll try to see if they are." Gavin said back to Gerald, now looking at the halflings to see if he could tell if they are maybe undead or if something is off.

Dennar walks up closer to the halfings that have bags packed to the brim and asks,"Might you open the bags just enough for us to see the kinds of loot we missed out on good halflings? There are odd folks about that we would ensure you are not in league with." He glances back at the rest of the party concerned that there may be some deception going on and then looks back to the looters.
Shirin looks at the Halfling's and doesn't give them his usual politeness, and speaks directly into their minds. "I hope the tomb was not too difficult, but I also must caution you. Forgotten tombs can hold much hate from the occupants, please do not go immediately to town. Stay outside and have a priest come to make sure no ancient plague or lingering curse attached to the goods." Shirin steps so they can see him better and smiles widely as he sends his last thoughts to them. "If you do by chance cause such a incident, I will not be kind after warning you."

Starting at 1st level, you can communicate telepathically with any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You don't need to share a language with the creature for it to understand your telepathic utterances, but the creature must be able to understand at least one language. Additionally, the creature does not gain the ability to telepathically reply, despite you being able to speak to it.

The figures darting around in the corners of your eyes cease, and up ahead you heard some noise. Sounds like a creaky wagon or cart moving slowly.

"Dangers?" One of the halflings responds. "It's all myth. We wandered into some tomb and looted it without a hitch!"
It would appear these halflings are NOT undead.
'Argh grave Robbers, is that worse or better than dead walkers?' Gerald shudders at the ickiness of the thought and awaits developments.
