(Huh, well that worked pretty much perfect and as you'd think it would, lol.)
Heading down the left passage, Thorum and Wormsquirt moving forward almost invisible bet about 30' and see that the passage opens into a large cavern. To the right you can see an area that's blocked off by large stones. To the left it opens up to about 30' and you can see webs built up where the walls meets the ceiling and floor. There are small skeletons stuck in the webs.
Wormsquirt upon seeing the webs motions to Thorum, pointing to his eyes and then pointing up to the ceiling. Wormsquirt scans the area for any signs of movement. He then pulls a ball bearing from his belt pouch and tosses it at the center of the web. Watching. Waiting.
(I edited my last post to update the map and also put it in the DM campaign notes)
Worsquirt, carefully coming a little around the corner to roll the ball bearing in you can see more of the cavern and that the webs get thicker and cover more of the area. When you roll the ball bearing and it hits the web you can see the whole web shake and move at the far end of your vision.
If Thorum can see this movement on the web he holds his hand up to get the attention of the group behind Wormsquirt and himself. He will point to where the movement is occurring.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Belialuin upon seeing the signal slowly approaches Thorum while investigating his surroundings and trying to remember if he knows of any fiends that can create such web like structures......maybe even how to beat them if needed.
(Just to be clear. When the ball bearing hit the web you saw it shake at the far end of your vision, then it stopped)
Belialuin, you're pretty positive it's a giant spider and you recall that their webs are vulnerable to fire. You also know that if you touch the web anywhere the spider will know exactly where you are and it's easy to get stuck in. You know it can shoot webbing and you do not want to get bit. Their poisonous bite can paralyze you over time.
I Convey all of this information to the group and quietly start to speak to the group after that "So this should be a hive of either a giant spider or spiders as far as we know. Considering that we can light torches and let the fire magic users in the middle to damage over distance. We should also consider 2 options. We can either bait the spiders and take them head-on by damaging the webs or go stealthily without them. I think it or they are already alert about our presence. Remember and please remember clearly, if you get into the spider web and can't get out don't wiggle too much it will only make you more stuck in the place. I guess we should watch the ceiling of the cavern really carefully. So how should we proceed ?"
"I suggest we light up the web, to rid the spider(s) of any possible advantage they might already have, and fight with fire as much as we can. Maybe send the fire and then stand behind me?"
(I have advantage on saving throws against poison as well as my high AC and HP. Poison-proof meat shield reporting for duty!)
"Fire and hide behind Zarbof sounds like the perfect plan." Wormsquirt nods. "Hopefully I can harvest the poison sac of the largest spider when we're done."
"Ok if we go are getting into a baiting fight lets do the following. Have a small fire going on the ground I can create it with the use of the Tinderbox and the Torch I have. Thorum put the tip your arrow into the fire. Zarbof and Roger remain on the front line with lit up torches and weapons ready. Me, Mysti and Thorum can support from a bit back. Wormsquirt hides and waits for the engagement to start so he gets a stealth advantage on your first attack when the enemy is focused on us. I can fry all of the webs here using my Firebolt. That must be enough to draw them out i guess. Hell, I hate the spiders."
"I like that plan, although I'll be using my new axe and my shield rather than a torch. When you're ready, go ahead and make the fire, then send your firebolt to kick things off."
So in terms of formation, the back row will be Belialuin, Thorum and Mysti with their ranged/magic attacks, Wormsquirt stealthed and hidden in the darkness, and Zarbof and Roger up front - but positioned so I take the most hits? (Not wanting to speak for you Roger, so correct that if it's wrong)
"I could recast light on something, maybe one of those ball bearings, and we can throw it out to the middle of the web also to see what is going on. Also keep in mind we expect spiders, so don't forget to look up once in a while also"
So sounds like you guys have a plan. For the sake of ease I'll say you find enough odds and ends bits of old gnoll hide armor in the area to get a little fire going. We're waiting for Belialuin to fire bolt some webs?
The webs light up catching quickly and burning faster as they make their way towards the back of the cave. As the flames grow along the walls 2 giant spiders come charging into the cavern. One on the floor, one on the ceiling about 20' above.
Zarbof calls out, "Up above, on the ceiling! Bring it down, we can defend from it better if it's on the ground! And maybe we should back up a little into the passageway where the roof is lower."
OOC: How wide is the passageway? Would our ranged attacks be able to fire past Zarbof and Roger if we all backed up into it? And do we need initiative, or are you giving us a chance for some ranged attacks before rolling initiative?
(Each hex is 10' So getting ranged attacks past people would be difficult but not impossible. Initiatives incoming. I was on my phone last night and couldn't do it)

“Burn the webs are draw the spiders out,” Mysti says “that way we get rid of web and see exactly what we are dealing with.”
