Tauriel, You can see that there is a wet trail coming from the lake leading into the cave. It looks like a small boat was dragged up there within the last hour or so.
"Guy's I've never really been to the ocean before, but is the way to get there through a cave? Because if so, there's boat marks being dragged into that cavern. Think there's an ocean nearby?" Tauriel says excitedly.
"I... No... That is not how you get to the ocean. It looks like somebody is trying transporting something they don't want discovered. Let's go check it out." Tordal says, shaking his head at the minotaur
Nice rolls! You are doing very stealthy making your way carefully toward the opening. You hear 2 voices inside the cave and can see the back of a small boat sticking out the caves entrance. From inside you hear
"...whole thing is a mess" another voice saying "they're going to end up destroying this beautiful land and risking our whole way of life" The other voice again "it's just us two though. We'd have to find more who could help"
A fairly tall and thin Tiefling sits by a fire waving his hands and manipulating the dusty air, almost mindlessly as he talked.
In infernal, "We know what is going on. We know what the long term consequences are likely to be." The Tiefling's eyes begin to slightly glow as the pupils begin to look like flame.(common) "Find the cause and stop it, no other choice."
A tall, grey skinned tiefling paces around the campfire, her tail swaying back and forth in irritation.
"Just the two of us, though? I'm all for investigating the root of the cause, but we can't do this without at least some backup. Not if you want to make out alive at least."
"......you're right. But the humans and elves are already on edge. If we approach either government the other will view it as a sign of guilt and collusion."
Estes squats poking the fire. "Too many of our people are benefiting to care. Even if they aren't involved, and I'm not convinced, they aren't considering the long term implications."
Plopping to a frustrated seat "this level of damage to the land will have consequences aside from the war it may provoke. "
"Honestly depends on the cause. Natural and maybe our people have to leave because the land is physically unstable "
Estes can tell his tone is giving away he doesn't believe this to be natural.
"If its magical the entire land could be uninhabitable maybe worse....I know Druids competent in moving earth and rock but they couldn't manage this not on this scale. That much power with ill intent is unsettling. "
Saada quietly sat, wondering to herself before saying "Maybe there's something in the lake, or underneath it. Seems like every time some ambitious fishmonger tries to seed the lake with fish or vegetation, it just dies and sinks to the bottom. We know it's not river feeding into the lake, otherwise Okcho is just a ghost town."
"Fools always act like it's acid. Their attempts are probably making it worse. But under the lake that's a prospect. If you can get there itd be a great base of operation "
Saada chuckles. "If you could get down there. Lake's not exactly shallow, and this is the only possible entrance underground that we've found. Besides, can you imagine how damp that base would be? The mildew alone would dissuade most."
(I've got 2 more people coming in. One is in another of my campaigns and I know is a good player and active. I'll be introducing them soon)
As you get closer the area you can now see that there is a cavern entrance there. Anyone want to give me an insight or perception?

Vail holds up his fist for the group to stop.
ooc: can I hear them? If not I want to sneak and get closer until I can hear
He removes his pack and any gear that would make noise and strains to hear. He points his index finger in front of his mouth and says shhhh to Twiggy.

"How bad are we talking?"
