Recognizing that the the Duergar may not be very welcoming of a Hill dwarf, Tordal keeps his head down and follows quietly alongside the rest of the party.
(Ha! Yeah, usually you would not be welcomed but fortunately Vail's persuasion was way better than the duergars insight and at least he's buying that you took too many hits to the head :)
It is indeed like another world down here and you quickly get the sense that it's a large city with multiple levels packed together tightly. I'm sure Saada would be trying to keep track of where they went and thinking about mapping this place. You pass many other Duergar along your journey through various tunnels, caverns and rooms. Some of the rooms and caverns seem to be set-up as shops, some as living spaces. After about 10 minutes of walking you find yourselves in a corridor larger than the rest. It's decorated with statues of Duergar. All looking regal and stately. At the end of the corridor you come to a large iron door guarded by 2 well armed Duergar.
The guards stop everyone calling out "Forgemaster? What is this you bring Mordans door?
The smith looking frustrated "Stop it with all yer pomp Wilden. I knew you when you were crawling around eating bugs. Some top-worlders fell down a whole after the quake. Think Mordan will like to have a talk with them don't you?"
Wilden grimaces and looks embarrassed with the mention of him eating bugs and nodding opens the door.
With everyone bowing as they walk into what everyone presumes is the "Throne Room" you're all a bit surprised to see it's very humble. Everyone raising from their bows see a small frail Duergar with wild grey hair half covering his face and cascading down into his mustache and beard. Where the hair ends and the beard begins you can't tell but it disappears under a desk strewn with papers, candles and various inkwells. Some with quills of various birds sticking out of them. On his left is someone who looks like, well Mrs Claus. but ya know.. dark grey. She has a basket on the floor filled with different colored yarn and is knitting away. On his right is a lump of a Duergar who is too wide for the chair he's seated in and is wearing so many trapments of his position you doubt he'd be able stand. He's decked out with layers of thick robes, shining beads in his beard, several shiny necklaces and rings on most of his fingers. Behind the old Duergar who you assume is Mordan is a very interesting fireplace. It's carved into the rock behind him with round ventilation holes spaced evenly around it. The flickering backlight of the fireplace leaves all their faces in shadow from time to time.
Doing a quick scan of the room you see it's about 15' x 20" with a fairly low ceiling of about 7'. While their are no "decorations" in the room like paintings you can see the walls themselves are carved with pictures and words no one here can read. The only other comfort in the room is the rug under his desk that looks like some kind of leather and very obviously came from some kind of beast. It takes up the entire 15' width of the back of the room.
The guards having followed you in clear their throats at the same time. The smith leading goes about 10' into the room and lowers his head respectfully. Mordan doesn't notice you enter until the duergar on his right leans over and whispers something.
Pushing his glasses up his nose Mordan finally looks up from whatever he was writing and says in common "Well, well. So the time has come. Took you long enough to get here!" He then says in undercommon "Thank you forge master! You've done well. You may leave" With that the guards and the forgemaster leave and close the door.
Estes: Seeing you sit down and hold the yarn she misses a stitch as her eyes grow wide. Mordan with a quill paused over a sheet of parchment says to her "and their arrival will help knit the future" She smiles down at you and extends a hand. "Thank you! Such a simple kindness." Looking to the party she says "There's much to discuss."
"Yes ma'am. Please. Our people are in danger both from the quakes and sinkholes AND the war they may bring. Humans and elves are looking for an excuse to kill"
(yeah, sorry, realize I said he was speaking in common but not her. Thanks for the good RP on you understanding her :)
Stretching his back and rolling his shoulders you hear several loud pops coming from Mordans joints as he rises "Yes. Well said young one. But only half said. It's more than humans and elves and even your own kind." Fully rising from the desk he starts to walk toward the right hand wall making a sweeping motion with his arm. As he does a dozen duergar become visible in a blink lining the wall and the ones in the center part as he approaches. He turns back to the party "Have no fear. I give you my word you will suffer no harm in my halls" Turning back to the wall he walks right through it and disappears.
"Oh finally someone that can speak something I can understand!" she trots up to the one speaking common. The Minotaur holds her hand out to shake and says, "My name's Tauriel, nice to meet you! Is there anyone else that can speak normal down here?"

"Whoa it's like a whole 'nother world down here! Hey guys can you ask what their chief is like?"

OOC: Saada is totally mentally mapping this place.
Estes probably understood none of the exchange, but gives a nice head nod/bow to the guard in passing.
“Alright everyone. I guess we.... bow? I don’t know do whatever the forge master does.”
Ooc: what’s wrong with eating bugs :-P
Tordal gives a deep and enthusiastic bow alongside Vail, hoping to remain in the Duergars' good graces.
Saada will bow respectfully as well.
Whispering " I don't know if we need to do this, but it really feels like an er on the side of caution time."

Estes walks and sits Indian style by the old woman, picking up her yarn and holding it on his spread fingers like he did for his grandmother.
