They do not hold these conversations with you in the room, and they are whispering quietly. You are able to catch only a few words from Filipa, who is having to whisper a little louder so that Babette can hear her, "Daddy....The Void?" Babette responds by shushing her and lightly smacking her arm.
I think I would spend some time confirming that nobody did a ritual for me to come back and trying to figure out this robe thing. Clarify some things. I’m assuming he doesnt even know he can cast spells. But just taking notes of his symptoms and asking if Halfstack thinks I should go to a cleric and I think hearing Babette and Filipa mention the Void would be enough to scare him to the doc
Sully is worried enough to start maybe giving magic users the time of day if they could answer his questions. His mind doesn’t think about weird conspiracies or experiments they might wanna run
While the people of Eltar generally give honor to all of the deities, most have a particular affinity for some over others. Who would Babette and Filipa take Sully to, the Clerics of Earth, Air, Fire, or Water? Some info about them:
Church of Earth: they are the domain of Death and The Grave
Church of Air: they are the domain of Trickery, Tempest, and War
The Church of Fire: they are the domain of Light, Knowledge, and The Forge
The Church of Water: the domain of Life, Nature, and Arcana
The Temple of Air in Eltar is not the seat of the church by any stretch, but like all the temples to the gods, it is quite ornate and extravagant for the town in which it is located. It hovers over the city 500 ft in the air. Long, wide, colorful banners flap in the breeze beneath the temple. The banners are enchanted with perpetual mending spells to prevent tearing. Alcoves for the roosts of flying creatures, large and small, are built into the supports and roof of the temple, and Sanctuary spells prevent the creatures from preying upon the nests of the others. Acolytes ensure that the creatures are well-cared for.
Regardless of how cold or hot the weather may be, the walls of the temple are kept open to the air. During times of precipitation, the temple closes to additional visitors, levitates above the clouds, and if the temple must be elevated to an altitude too high for breathable air, Bottles of Breath are issued to the inhabitants of the temple until the temple can descend. But that isn't relevant today. Today, it is a crisp winter day. There's not a cloud in the sky.
The temple is reached by stepping on sets of pressure plates, marked by white and blue wind socks. Stepping on the pressure plate triggers a Dimension Door spells, through which 2 creatures may step through at a time.
After being transported to the temple, you are greeted by an Acolyte of Air. Like all the clergy in this temple, she wears long, flowing vestments of white and blue with pockets that catch the wind, causing her robes to flair out like a balloon. You know her. Her name is Windy (it's the name all the acolytes adopt, forsaking their given names upon entry into the liturgical life). She extends her arms to you and your family and waves her arms smoothly through the air in the traditional gesture of greeting, but does not speak.
Burying his apprehension about magic and the theatrics around him and the attempt to act like the strong patriarchal figure he was 6 months ago he strides forward.
“Windy! I bet you didn’t expect to see ole Sully again did you, yup, back from the dead, and don’t even know how. Think you can help out an old fart put his family at ease?”
Windy whispers, as the acolytes always do, "I will bring you to the Gale." She escorts you to an Aarakocra male, dressed in similar vestments as Windy, except that he has a tall hat with openings to direct air flow through it. Attached to the hat are several long ribbons. He has an amulet around his neck with this symbol on it.The Gale asks you to lay down on one of the hammocks that are hung around the temple. You can see him cast a spell. He looks to Babette and Filipa, and says, "You can be assured that Sully is not a zombie, vampire, or any other undead creature. Neither is he an Unspeakable creature. This appears to be a genuine resurrection. Are there other concerns that you have?"
[note: you know that by "Unspeakable creature" The Gale is referring to a creature from The Void, an analogue to "fiends" in standard D&D]
Filipa chimes in, "And, his eyes...most of the time, they look completely white, like he's been blinded, but he can see just fine. But, now, look at them. They get like that when he's worried."
The Gale looks again, "Hmm, I see. They are black as night. Quite odd, that." He casts another spell, and looks at Filipa. "Your father bears magic still. I do not know the source. I do not know what sort of magic it may be. It is unlike any I have ever seen before." To you, he says. "Sully, it looks like you have spent your life spitting into the wind, when it comes to magic, and now you've gotten a bit of it into your eyes."
“Ya here that hun, your old man isn’t a monster. Just the punchline of some gods sense of irony”
“Well Doc, you’ve certainly set my mind more at ease and I hope my families too. What is this visit gonna set me back? I haven’t worked in 6 month mind you but business is business (using some bartering tact and skills to maybe make the copay go away ;) )
[that raises a good point. What kind of starting gold do you have by RAW at this point? Since you are playing an old man who had been running a business, that raises an interesting point. We could say that the intervening 6 months have depleted Sully and Babette's fortunes down to whatever RAW says for your starting gold, but I'm not sure I want to do that in this case. Continuing to provide for his family could be a good motivator for adventuring, if you'd like. In that case, I'd be more inclined to say that Sully is broke right now. On the other hand, if you think Sully would respond to a lack of money by rushing to get the bakery going again and stubbornly baking away, and thus, it would be harder to motivate him to start adventuring, then I'd be more inclined to say he's got more gold set aside. what are your thoughts?]

I have 10 gold starting as an artisan guild member background. Ill say that the silver and copper pieces that Babette has leftover of the “retirement” fund amounts to 10 gold. I have alwayssss wanted to play a character who has this motivation but its very hard to do but i think I have created the perfect formula. Hes old, should be dead, and doesn’t know how long hell live now anyway cause he is so old even after coming back! Plus I don’t know but I assume Filipa or even the grand babies have aspirations that are financially out of reach that could be further incentive to do more daring things for cash once Babette is set up for life. However at this point would he know that magic could be a source of income at this point via adventuring? I don’t think it would cross his mind. But he would definitely after payment is settled turn over his shoulder and casually Turn to the Gale and ask
“Any suggestions on what an old coot should do with never before seen magic?” Half sarcastically
[Ok, the Player's Handbook says that a comfortable lifestyle requires 2 gp per day to maintain. Six months of 30 days times 2 gp per day = 360 gp that Babette would have needed to spend while Sully was dead in order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. Let's say, instead of the 10 gp that RAW says for the artisan guild member background, the family is down to 20 gp of their life savings, and for reasons I'll leave to you to explain, Sully also has everything that a sorcerer has by RAW in starting equipment. If it doesn't make sense for him to have had it during his former life, then let's just say that he unexplainedly had in in his hands or otherwise on his person when he was resurrected. Also, let's say that, on average, Sully can profit an average of 2 gp and 1 sp per day by running the bakery. So, he can pay for he and Babett's living expenses, along with all the costs of doing business, and have 1 sp to sock away each day if he operates the bakery all day]
The Gale says to you, "Sully, we usually ask for a donation of 30 gold pieces for the spells I just cast on you, but it just cost me a few words and some waving of my arms, and I do that anyway. So, if you think you, Babette, and Filipa can keep a secret, we can just pretend it's dust in the wind."
”Doc, your generosity blows me away *wink* I owe you one”
Then as we’re leaving Sully turns over his shoulder and in a joking half sarcastic manner asks ”Any suggestions on what an old coot should do with never before seen magic?”

Also Halfstack runs the bakery. Sully ran the cobbler shop.
[oh, crap. I screwed that all up in my head. I would expect a baker to make more money than a cobbler in this world. Oh, well. Some of Sully's customers were hipsters who were into "artisan shoes" or some such, and they overpaid. There, now it works.]
In response to Sully's question, The Gale responds, "Practice. Experiment. Have fun with it." A half second later, he turns back to Sully, and adds, "Don't kill anyone."
Ok here’s what I see Sully doing until a catalyst changes this. He tries to upstart the shoe store again and tries using his surprise resurrection as a marketing tool to advertise with clever sole and soul puns. But he starts noticing he likes the darkness more it feels more comfortable. Starts becoming more nocturnal. And at night when everyone’s asleep he starts experimenting. Holding a piece of leather for a boot and focusing so hard it flickers the candle light he discovers mage armor. He discovers his superior darkvision. And in a moment of frustration when he makes a wrong cut because his heartbeat scares him and his hand jumps he casts chaos bolt the stream from the line of curses he lets loose in an arcane stream he didn’t know he was capable of. Scares him and explodes the shoe causing him to start over

I look to my family for signs of relief...
I take his hand and put it on my chest. My skin is clammy and cool, and I hold it there until my heart beats.
I whisper quietly “Doc, I don’t know if this genuine resurrection worked right. I don’t feel all here”
Filipa chimes in, "And, his eyes...most of the time, they look completely white, like he's been blinded, but he can see just fine. But, now, look at them. They get like that when he's worried."

Always 16! I’m not complaining
