Welcome to the Forgotten Realms! I am a relatively experienced DM (A couple years of consistent D&D 5e play,) and I am planning on running a game of Storm King's Thunder. I am looking for 6 dependable players who have preferably never played Storm King's Thunder before. If you are interested in joining, please post your character application to this thread, conforming to the following requirements.
Characters will begin at 1st level.
PHB, XGE, SCAG, EEPC, and MTF content only.
27-Point Buy or Standard Array ability scores.
Milestone Advancement
Encumbrance On
Optional: Faction (Choose from The Harpers, The Lord's Alliance, The Emerald Enclave, The Order of the Gauntlet, or the Zhentarim)
At least one character should be proficient in the Giant language.
Please post your character's name, race, class, backstory, and a link to the character sheet. I will leave this thread up for a few days and then select 6 applications, trying to create a party as balanced as possible and including at least one casting class, one martial class, one stealth class, and one healing class.
Lydia's always known what she's good at. And what she's not good at. Born to the military family of the Hawkwinters in Waterdeep, she trained with weapons from an early age. Her parents were delighted when she favored more subtle methods of combat, especially those that entangled her enemies. Focusing on training with weapons like the whip and bow, Lydia excelled at combat, both close range and from a distance. However, one area she did not excel in was rule following. She just didn't see the point in most rules. Yes, she understood murder was wrong, but how was sneaking out going to hurt anyone? Still, Lydia kept her transgressions minor and discrete for most of her early life, sneaking out of the room she and her brother shared most nights and getting back by morning. However, the Hawkwinters had also made enemies. One night, one of those enemies sent assassins for the Hawkwinters. Lydia's parents, Kyrin (named after her famous ancestor) and Eren, killed the assassin that came for them, but another made it into Lydia and her brother's room. Lydia was out on one of her nighttime romps, and the assassin murdered her little brother Ryan in his bed. When Lydia returned and learned of his death, she blamed herself and fled without speaking to her parents, heading north.
Backstory: Sheshka is a member of The Black Network.. She joined after some time working jobs in the North with another mercenary group. Then the Zhents came along with much more lucrative jobs and resources. (Backstory is still being hammered out. So there is more detail to come)
Backstory: Tibalt was raised to serve. Once of age, he was sent to serve under a certain Dragonborn Knight of Tiamat. There he learned the ways of war! He learned of the thrill of victory, as well as the sting of defeat. Under this Knight of Tiamat Tibalt eventually earned the apprentice rank of Squire! He polished the Knights black armor and saw to his mount. The time eventually came for Tibalt to prove himself. No longer would he be allowed to cower in the Knights shadow. Now he must strike out and survive on his own! Find his own power and bring glory to The Dragon Queen, or perish!
Backstory: Valia hails from a forest deep in Faerun. Much of his clan still live in the area, but precise numbers are unknown. He has been mostly alone as long as he can remember. Valia lives off the land to sustain, clothe and arm himself. Lately though, Valia has been inching closer and closer to civilizations to learn more about the residents in large cities. He has befriended smaller towns and communities and gained favor int the area. Many see Valia as a friend and a non threat to their lives. An ever curious fellow, Valia has a focus on increasing his knowledge.
Description: Valia wears a natural cloth clothing that has been tinted a brown color to match his forest home. Over his clothing is a short green cloak. Handmade leather shoes cover his feet. He also carries a small wooden shield to protect his thin body. In the other hand is a short scimitar with a leather wrapped handle.
Class: Cleric (Domain to be decided, character editor only has life as option)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory: Carric’s original clan and mountainside town was ransacked by a goblin raiding party when he was a wee lad. Thankfully, an adventuring party happened to be passing through during the carnage and managed to rescue some of the kids who we’re in a sort of dwarfen magic panic room. All the surviving children including Carric were dumped in the nearest Religious Cloister, because the party had to go save the world or something, and Carric grew up into the religious man he is today with a desire to be the hero to innocent’s like those who had saven him all those years ago.
faction: I don’t really know about these, if there’s a sort of religious one Carric could probably fit into it snugly.
Backstory: Randy had lived in Silvery moon for the better part of his life before he set out to further his studies. He started his journey when he was 30 investigating old ruins around faerun. In one of his investigations he found a carving in Abyssal which he took with him after a few years of learning abyssal he found it described an ancient city that contained the secret to eternal life. As he is continuing his search for the city he finds himself in the city of (wherever we're starting)
Backstory: Isabella was born in Neverwinter, and spent her first few years there. Her parents, hearing of the promise of potential riches to be had in the nearby town of Phandalin, saved up whatever money they could working odd jobs here and there and bought oxen, wagons, and provisions and joined a caravan headed south to seek their fortune. Unfortunately, they did not heed the warnings of bandits along the road to Phandalin, and they and their travelling companions were slain. No one survived that raid but poor Isabella, who by some stroke of luck remained hidden, asleep amidst the wreckage of the caravan. From there she wandered, and found a small hamlet amidst the woods, where a kind ranger raised her and taught her to survive. Eventually she made her way back to Neverwinter where she found companionship in the Harper's guild in which she is an initiate.
Description: Isabella is small and slight, even for a halfling. She has brown hair and eyes and big hairy feet that remain bare even when she dons her mail. She wears a cloak with a hood and cowl while travelling, and always wears more layers of clothing than other people would find comfortable. She has poor vision and is constantly squinting to try to bring things into focus. Isabella, like most halflings is kind hearted and usually appears to be in good spirits, and when idle she will pluck her lute and sing little songs about the nature and the woods.
Name: Renn (Rennthal'ias) Race: Githyanki Class: Fighter Background: Far Traveler Backstory: Renn is the last survivor of a githyanki training mission to the Prime Material Plane to a mountain range far to the east. She was the last standing after a disastrous encounter with an orc raiding party. She has been wandering for a few years, and has come to revel in her newfound freedom. She tries to spend her time fighting to free those in bondage, wanting to share her freedom to all. Description: While she shares the emaciated looking frame andd sallow skin of her race, Renn has shed the trappings of her people for bright vibrant colors in her clothes and hair, currently a shocking pink. Coriana - Company of the Grey Chain Wagner - Dragon Heist: Bards. DM - The Old Keep
Name: Quende De'Desar Race: High Elf Class: Wizard Background: Cloistered Scholar Backstory: Quende De'Desar was born on Evermeet. Growing up he was constantly on the lookout for more knowledge be it arcane or martial, and he was told Evermeet was the only place he would find it. I addition to his studies he trained Blade Singers of the Leopard like his father before him. He took to the short sword like a second appendage, but still preferred his Books. Overtime he became fascinated by the outside world. Specifically the creatures and race not found in Evermeet. Do to this he decided to leave, I mean whats better than seeing these things first hand. Description: Quende is a tall elf with long blond hair pulled back with a black cord. He tends to wear clothes in black and yellow, with a short sword at his hip and a quarterstaff in his hands.
Name: Rat Race: svirfneblin (deep gnome) Class: rogue Backstory:
Rat has very few memories of his early years other than the families he was in kept changing and he moved around a lot. Quite naturally he ended up on the streets of this or that city or town, having to fend for himself. Begging and thieving was not just a habit, but the only way to survive. Due to his upbringing, or lack thereof, hard life on the streets and almost constant malnutrition as a child, his tiny frame, even for a svirfneblin, is slightly hunched. He has never known of a name other than what everyone calls him - Rat. One day, as a young adult (30 or so years ago), he encountered someone who took pity on him and gave him both guidance and safety. Her name was Arili and their relationship evolved into one of mutual trust, and of course financial benefit. While she was entertaining the people with her tricks, Rat cut their purses.
The nature of their trade kept them moving and they eventually left the Underdark to explore the open world. In one town or another someone yelled something at Rat that stuck with him, "Go and try some honest work!"
It took a while to set in and at around his first century mark Rat decided to try some honest work indeed. Adventuring sounded interesting.
Dependability: yes. I'm playing in a couple of games here and also DMing one, posting several times a day every day.
Backstory: Druug was a soldier for many years. After he was nearly killed in battle, he spent a long convalescence in the home of a cleric healer of Torm. He was so impressed with the cleric and his devotion that Druug became a cleric himself.
Description: Cadence is rather odd. Her pale purple skin can often make her stand out in a group, despite her rather average height. She usually wears a leather chest piece over a loose fitting shirt with brown pants and well worn boots. Her dark blue hair is more often than not tied back into a short ponytail which stays out of her horns, which curl close to her head and almost look like an odd 'C', with their tips ending right below her pointed ears. Her eyes are pure blue, much paler than her hair. She has a rather square face, with a small nose and lips. Cadence makes sure it's hard to tell what gender she is exactly.
Background: Spy (Criminal)
Backstory:
Cadence was born to a human and tiefling couple living in Neverwinter. Their life was never easy, with them being financially troubled due to Cadence's younger sister's disability. Cadence took to the streets as a child to try and make a few extra coins to alleviate the burden by preforming. Some days, it was enough, and other days she also resorted to selling information and gossip she learned while out. She ended up being noticed by a person in the Harpers, who recruited her to their cause. They ended up teaching her many things: how to wield a blade, spellcasting, how to sneak around and use words to her advantage to go along with her music. She never mentions her family to others, and more often than not comes up with new names and histories depending on who she's dealing with. She's become a bit of an odd ball to all she meets.

The ever growing document of character concepts can never be too long, can it?
Hi! I'd love to play, if you'll have me! I've yet to play any of the D&D hardcovers, so SKT is all new to me.
Name: Thalia Kyprios
Race: Copper Dragonborn
Class: Wizard
Backstory:
Thalia is the apprentice of the Magnificent Mr. Zaratan, the most marvelous wizard in all the Realms. Mr. Zaratan strives to create wondrous new spells and objects, thus enriching the lives of arcanists everywhere with the vast array of magicks that will soon bear his name, all tirelessly researched by the team of traveling student-scholars like Thalia. Imagine: mages the world over casting Mr. Zaratan's screaming sandstorm and writing the formula for Mr. Zaratan's cavorting puppies into their spellbooks, or reaching into their handy haversacks to retrieve their very own Mr. Zaratan's transforming candle wick. The face of magic would be changed forever, and that face would be the face of the Magnificent Mr. Zaratan!
(Thalia doesn't know what a "screaming sandstorm" spell would do, actually, or what exactly one might transform a candle wick into. And the puppy spell idea is… she's not sure what it is, to be honest, she just saw a puppy while she was daydreaming and it was really cute. But this is just brainstorming! Just suggestions, arbitrary examples! The real spells and enchantments she'll discover someday will be perfectly logical and of unparalleled usefulness. And also cute, if she's lucky.)
Granted, one day Thalia would really like to invent a new spell all her own, but surely that will happen in due time—after all, she owes the very fact that she's a wizard at all to Mr. Zaratan, who took her off the streets and under his wings. Every spell in her spellbook was taught by Mr. Zaratan (as was, for that matter, her ability to read at all), every gesture she makes when she casts, the way she carries and presents herself… it's entirely reasonable, then, that she dedicate her efforts to spreading his fame and advancing his noble aims. So she keeps diligent notes of her travels as she seeks experience through adventure, sending reports and discoveries back to Mr. Zaratan in batches whenever she can. Surely it won't be long before she the sights she sees and the people she meets lead her to her first big breakthrough for the Magnificent Mr. Zaratan!
There was a second character I was considering applying with (a taciturn tiefling barbarian); I was having a bit of trouble deciding between them, haha, and I'd be happy to play either. If you wouldn't mind people applying with two characters I can get her sheet together and post her as well. If not, no big deal!
Thanks for your consideration, and good luck to everyone applying!
Known to be one of the rougher cities along the Sword Coast, Luskan is the ideal place for a tiefling to have been born to a human whore. Being in the midst of anarchy for some time it has become a place where pirates, criminal organizations and smaller gangs and cults have carved out portions of the city as their own. It's no surprise that some disguised fiend slipped off to the lawless city for some entertainment. Frixori went into the family business. Not by choice, of course, as the owners of the brothel where she was born hold on to the more exotic offspring born to their employees. Because of this fact, she has cursed her infernal heritage. She was good enough at her job that one of her regular clients provided some assistance in the way of a dagger left behind, the blade engraved with a tiny symbol of The Black Network. Able to seek her freedom, she joined the Zhentarim to repay their generosity.
Once accepted, she sought ways to increase her abilities as she had never been properly trained. One of her early missions for the Zhents provided her with an opportunity in the form of a noble merchant - a purveyor of all things arcane - in need of an escort to Neverwinter. While providing additional services along the journey, the merchant offered a crystal as part of Frixoi's payment. That crystal somehow sensed her hatred of the blood in her veins and an offer to aid her in somehow ridding herself of this curse...
Instead of from the Shadowfell, I would like to flavor her patron as being either Fey or Celestial.
With difficulty, I have selected 6 candidates from the impressive applications. If you have been selected you will receive a PM shortly. Thank you to everyone who applied. Keep on critting!
