Vappa starts to rub his arms and roll his shoulders to ease away the soreness. "Captain's orders." He hisses, looking about the ship and surrounding sea in awe of the view. "Vappa....assist in....watch..." After a moment of gazing, Vappa remembers he has a job to and turns back to the tabaxi. "Vappa is....ready for work."
Strife will take a step backwards, his eyes shifting from the captain to the wooden planks beneath his clawed feet. "Ok... I mean.. I have the power to extinguish flames too... umm I mean I can help swab the desk I guess if you dont want me around the guns and powder" The kobold would say with a bit of disappointment in his voice as he removes his tricorn hat and holds it in his claws.
Strife, the Cpt. says "If LaTiffe hired you, you must be something special. It's only my duty as Cpt. and interest in keeping my ship sailing and crew living that I express the importance of fire safety so sternly. Go find Flo and Jet, the Halflings. They'll give you a tour of the ship. You're on fire watch. You'll make rounds of the ship and be on lookout for fires or fire hazards. Should you find anything concerning, I expect you to notify me immediately. I hope we don't have to use your fire control abilities, but I'm glad to have them. Now go."
Vappa, your tribe's legends heavily draw on the celestial bodies and their position in the sky. Though the delicate looking instrument is unfamiliar to you, you quickly grasp the concepts of navigation by celestial body as Kelp shows you how to operate the Sextant.
"Find water and sky line." As he holds the device to his eye and looks out to the horizon.
"Find sun next." and he manipulates a knob.
"Bring together." sliding an arm on the sextant and twisting a knob.
"Write angle and time." Says Kelp as he produces a journal and pocket watch.
Vappa, you spend the rest of the day practicing with the sextant.
I saw it, great role playing! I'm a bit busy at the moment with family and I want to respond when I have more time to put in to my response. For the moment, the Misty Matron is only a day out of Waterdeep and from what you can glean from the aquatic life in the area, everything seems pretty ordinary.
Strife will nod to the captain "Yes captain!" The kobold would say placing his lucky tricorn hat back on his head and heading off across the ship. "Hey Flo! Jet! Can you show me around?I have some fires to prevent!" Strife would shout cupping his hands around his snout as he looks for the halfings, hoping to make a good impression on the captain.

Agamemnon exults in the freedom of the open sea and the silence of the ocean depths. Trident in hand, he cuts through the clear waters on the hunt for a shark or small whale.
Survival: 18
If he locates his quarry, Stealth to approach unseen: 19
Agamemnon takes care to stay within a mile of the Misty Matron during the hunt.
Strife, the halfings call out to you from high up amongst the lines and rigging "Up here!" and you look up to find them. You watch as two small shapes dextrously descend the myriad ropes and land with a flourish on the deck. Both appear to be in their late teens and have blonde hair and large brown eyes. The girl wears her hair in two large braids under a bright red bandana and the boy's short curls just barely peek out from under a leather skullcap with a skull crudely stitched onto the front in white thread. Cpt. Red Skies says "Strife, meet Flotsam" as she points to the girl "and Jetsam." pointing to the boy. "Flo and Jet, this is Strife. He's on fire watch. Show him around the ship would you?" The halflings eagerly attack their task, each taking one of your hands and pulling in opposite directions. Flo looks to her twin brother and says "Ladies first!" The young man crosses his arms and says "Fine."
The halfings take you on a tour of the Misty Matron starting with the rigging and lines amongst the masts, the quarter and foredecks, then they take you below deck and show you the crew quarters, kitchen, magazine, storage, and bilge. Jet turns to you and says "You'll wanna pay close attention when you're checking the kitchen and the magazine. If there's gonna be a fire, those are the most likely places for it to start." Along the way, they pepper you with questions. "Where'd you come from? Where are your parents? Are you a dragon? Do you like sailing? Have you ever seen a kraken? What do you do for fun?"
Agamemnon, you plunge into the crystal clear waters of the Trackless Sea and immediately feel at peace. You've always hated how harsh things are above water. Sound is intense and grating on the surface while muffled and soft underwater. Light and color are so bright as to make you nauseous, unlike the filtered and muted ambiance underwater. Even the way the water envelops your entire body completely, a comfort of home. You swim powerfully through the waters around the Misty Matron, searching for your favored prey: young whales. The sounds of their deep, resonant songs carrying over vast distances. Judging the pitch and volume of the calls, you can tell a pod of whales is in the area, but just outside the one mile range that is your comfort. You do sense another predator nearer to you though. A large shark lurks about 100ft away. It's keeping pace with you, watching. Over time you notice it's slowly been approaching, now roughly 75ft away. You smile and dive deep into an underwater crevasse. Superheated gases vent from cracks in the sea floor. You stir up a school of fish and use their frenzied movement to mask your approach. You leave the crevasse and see the shark 30ft away, facing away from you.
The kobold would struggle to stay on his feet as the halflings pull on his arms, and happy to follow Flo once the pulling has ended. Adjusting his hat and goggles, the kobold would pay close attention to each of the sections of ship. Bouncing around excitedly with his tail thrashing about rapidly, the kobold would take mental note of every lantern onboard as well as anywhere there seems to be a lot of flamable objects. Inbetween taking notes and trying to memorize the layout of the ship, Strife would try his best to answer the questions. "Uhh, the sewers under waterdeep" ... "I don't know where my parents are" ... "I WISH I WAS A DRAGON!" Strife would reply excitedly, startling the two halflings. "I have been told that my powers may come from dragon blood flowing through my veins... Which would make sense. I kind of think it might be a brass dragon because if you look at some of these scales they kind of look brass... I mean they are kind of dirty so it is kind of hard to tell right now but trust me! They definitally are! Have you guys seen a dragon before? I haven't but I want to. I don't know what a Kraken is... is it like a dragon that lives in the water?... Strife would ramble on for a bit before realizing he should take a break for a moment. After the halflings ask a few more questions, he would reply "well I have never been sailing and well... I never had much time for fun... I used to have a pair of dice but they were stolen from me in my sleep one night... I bought a game of dragonchess and I actually don't know how to play but I would like to learn...
After a bit, Strife would return a bombardment of questions of his own. "So how long have you served with the captain? Where are you two from? What do you to for fun? What jobs do you do on the boat?...
Strife, Flo eyes your scales and says "Yeah, they do look kinda shiny! So you lived in the sewers!? Why? We've been with the Cpt. since she started sailing the Misty Matron." Jet then interjects "We ran away from home. Our mom died a long time ago and our dad was too drunk most of the time to keep a steady job." Flo says "We lived in an alley behind The Skewered Dragon for years. Everyday we'd come down to the docks and watch the ships come and go." Jet then says "Cpt. Red Skies saw us one day and offered us a job." Flo finishes "We signed up and never looked back!"
Having finished the tour, you three sit at a table in the crew quarters. Jet is idly looking at your Dragonchess set. "I bet Mr. Stol would know how to play this..." as he marches two pieces across the board, makes the sounds of gunfire, and knocks a piece on its side.
Flo says "Careful Jet! That looks expensive! Anyway, we're in charge of making sure the lines, rigging, and knots are tight. We also run powder up from the magazine to the gunners in a fight." Jet holds a piece up close to his eyes "Man, these are really detailed! We haven't actually had to shoot anyone with the cannons yet though. We did fire a few warning shots at some wannabe pirates about a year ago."
"Maybe in my free time I will see Mr. Stol and see if he can teach me" Strife would say with a smile. "As for why I lived in a sewer... well.. I never really had a home or family. The only jobs I could find in waterdeep were digging sewers under the city and small lairs for people under their homes called cellars or something. I used to pretend that the sewers were my lair and that I was a dragon... I would scavenge for items and even had my own small treasure horde that I used to protect like a dragon protecting its horde... but eventually other creatures working and living in the sewers found out about my stuff and took it from me... It was around that time that I discovered my powers, but not soon enough though." The kobold would pause for a moment and then look to the two halfings. "It kind of stinks to be small and get pushed around ya know... but now when I get pushed around.. I don't let the bastards live to do it another day" Strife would say with a somewhat sinister smile before shaking his head. "but yeah, uhh... when is lunch?"
Lady Susanne and Seldor, you spend the next three days with Narry and Maruk learning how to be a gunner at sea and getting to know them a bit more. You learn that the two have been friends since they met aboard a tradeship that carried trade goods from Neverwinter to Luskan. They've worked many other ships together since then, basically as guns for hire. They don't normally stay in one place too long. Having just joined Cpt. Red Skies' crew the same time you did, they plan on working for her for a few years before heading further south.
Vappa, you spend the next three days and part of the nights learning all you need to know about maritime navigation from Kelp. Though a Tabaxi of few words, you did manage to learn a bit about him as you two spent time together in the Crow's Nest. Kelp's full name is Swaying Kelp, and he's originally from Chult. He's saving his money so he can move his wife and two kids to Waterdeep where he plans to do business as a Cartographer. His Pseudodragon's name is Opal and he found her as an egg among the cliff's that border the island of Chult.
Strife, you spend time getting to know Flo and Jet a bit more, but you also get to know a few of the other crewmembers as well. You meet Orias Stol, the ship's Tiefling surgeon. Mr. Stol teaches you how to play Dragonchess and tells you a bit about himself. He tells you he grew up in Waterdeep and due to his lifelong love of the sea he initially wanted to join the Royal navy. His affluent parents instead forced him through medical school and after graduating, he bought a small one-man ship of his own with part of his trust money set aside for opening a medical practice in Waterdeep. He sailed the seas, exploring various islands and port cities while putting his education to use helping those he encountered. After satisfying his wanderlust, he joined Cpt. Red Skies as surgeon aboard the Misty Matron. You also meet the ship's cook, Isadore Ironkettle. He teaches you how to make biscuits and tells you he was a smuggler and profiteer in his youth. He was caught and given the option to serve in the Royal Navy or death. He chose life at sea as a cook in the Royal Navy. Isadore has worked with Cpt. Red Skies on the same ship in the past and thinks she's the best Captain he's ever served under.
Agamemnon, you spend the days amongst the waves. Occasionally, you'll toss a large swordfish or octopus on deck for everyone to enjoy later that night for dinner. The further from Waterdeep that you get and the closer to the island, you notice the amount of aquatic wildlife has started to decrease. The general feeling you get from your emmissary of the sea ability is that the waters ahead are a dead zone. All manner of life either avoids it or never return from its dark depths.

Strife loves interacting with the other sailors on the ship as he makes his rounds repeatedly though the day. Strife tries his best to time his rounds of the ship so that he is checking the kitchen when Isadore is preparing meals so that the kobold can help out. The kobold is sure not to make any fire of his own but makes use of his [Tooltip Not Found] to make sure that everything cooked evenly and then that the fire is extinguished once the cooking is completed. After learning to play dragonchess Strife also tries to get in a game a day if the doctor is not busy while making his rounds.
Vappa starts to rub his arms and roll his shoulders to ease away the soreness. "Captain's orders." He hisses, looking about the ship and surrounding sea in awe of the view. Vappa, Kelp watches you for a bit before reaching into his pouch and pulling out a Sextant. "You know how to use?"
