OOC: It would seem that Epos is getting ready for the 3rd watch.
Xel wonders how peaceful it must be being an elf as he watches Epos go into his trance. It would seem that this leaves Khial and he to do the 1st and 2nd watches. Xel tells Khial to get some rest and be ready for the 2nd watch. He advises Khial to position himself near Epos.
Xel makes sure that both Khial and Epos are within a 20 foot cube (with a spot left for him). Xel then casts Alarm around their site, designating himself and his two companions as the ones who will not trigger the spell. He also makes the alarm audible so that his companions will be alerted.
OOC: Will Xel lose sight of the boat and its occupants if a campfire is not made?
OOC: So let's make sure I got this right. Xel will watch for 4 hours, then wake Khial, who will watch for 4 hours then wake Epos, who will take third watch so Khial can go back to sleep? Since Epos needs only 4 hours of sleep, wouldn't it make more sense to wake him for 2nd watch, then he wakes Khial and they can take the third watch together? Just a suggestion.
OOC: The campfire is so those without darkvision can see. If you want to try to make a lean-to over the fire, someone must makea Survival check with a DC of 15; failure means the lean-to also catches fire. With or without a campfire, you will no longer be able to see the boat once the sun sets.
Xel succeeds in starting a fire shielded by the lean-to. He notes that the light from the campfire is not completely hidden, which means observers from afar can still mark its location.
OOC: Roll Perception checks for your receptive watches. Xel, based on my reading of the Alarm spell, it is only triggered when a creature enters the warded area.
Xel's watch is uneventful, so he wakes Epos and bunks down on the hard, uncomfortable forest floor.
OOC: Epos, Khial, you may press the long rest button on your character sheets. I'll give Khial some more to make a Perception roll; if he doesn't, I'll just continue.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Sorry for the delay; I was waiting for Noel to contact me. Another character would have proved useful right about now. Oh, well ...
In the darkest part of the night, as Epos shakes awake a groggy Khial so they can continue their watch, two robed figures enter the circle of dim light created by your covered fire. As they do, the sound of a loud bell rings through the campsite, waking Xel and shaking the cobwebs of sleep fom Khial. One of the robed figures mutters a curse.
OOC: I was about the give the robed figures a surprise round and roll their attacks, when I realized that in 5E surprised is now a condition -- a character with the surprised condition cannot move, take actions, or react during the round. That Alarm spell saved you from an initial round of hurt, I believe.
Live and learn. The robed figures roll their initiative: 14.
Please roll initiative fo your characters. I'm assuming that you camped within the grove, so tell me where your characters are located so I can make a new map. Khial and Epos must be adjacent to each other, since the robed figures attacked while the latter woke the former.
OOC: Just backread and use the coordinates from the old map. I have to figure out a new place to host pictures since Google+ is gone. Yup, Xel still doesn't have the benefits of a long rest.
OOC: Since Epos went first, he will take watch for the last 4 hours. Re: campfire - how cold is it? Perhaps a lean-to can be made to hide the fire?

OOC: Okay. 1st Watch - Xel. Second Watch: Epos. Third Watch : Khial.
Xel will try to make a campfire that is partially hidden.
Survival Check: 16

OOC: Yes, I think that is how it works.
Perception Check: 18
Xel mentally counts the minutes until he can rest.
The previous days exertions have taken a toll on both mind and body. And he is still getting used to sleeping in the wilderness.
OOC: Apparently elves do snore while in a trance:
Epos: Zzzzzzz
OOC: Skulgryn, where is Epos's Perception check? Just waiting for that and Khial's before continuing.
OOC: Perception 16 - BTW Does this cover when when Epos is taking his watches (2nd & 3rd - BTW I'll take 3rd together with Khial)?
OOC: Yup, I think the consensus is to take the 3rd watch with Khial, so you'll take the last watch together.
DM secret roll: 18.
More DM secret rollz: 12.

Xel gets ready to rest. He'll need his wits about him come morning. He hopes the night proceeds as quietly as it began.
Perception check: 4
Epos wakes up refreshed and takes his watch

Xel still doesn't have the benefits of a Long Rest.

Xel is in H9. Since he was sleeping when the Alarm went off, he is prone.
