Quillary grumbles and tries to aim her finger of chilling better this time...
Action: cast Chill Touch again. 12 to hit, for 10 necrotic damage. Reaction: if enemy starts turn (or enters) within 10' of her, spores will (pending Con Save vs DC 15) do 4 necrotic damage to it.
(OOC: Will Quillary use her full 30' movement to chase, or just enough to get line-of-sight?)

(OOC: I should have mentioned my concern. If you look at the map, you currently have line of sight through that side passage, which will take 40' to exit. As soon as the chuul moves 10' to either side, or dives deeper, you won't be able to see it, and you won't be able to get through the passage in 1 round with 30' of movement.
On that map, each square is 10'. I'll add that note to the earlier post.)

Jorin flies into the new cavern. His 2nd strike misses (tough to swing and swim), but the other two do 37 damage. (Pascal 8, Drusk 8, spore halo 5, AoO 12... another 70 damage since last calculation.) This chuul is also chum.
Status update:
On that map, Drusk, Pascal, and Quillary are still in the passage 10' south of the red X. Jorin and Hildigrim are at the red X.
The chuul that was kidnapping Hildigrim has been chopped to bits. Hildigrim still has a big heavy pincer around his chest.
Hildigrim to go. Hildigrim can pry open the pincer, float with water walk to the surface, and get back on his feet using 20' of his movement.

Oh you know, i read that as working the same way that rogue's sneak attack works, but the wording on sneak attack is just "once per turn" rather than "your" turn. Sorry about that.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Come on, acrobatics! 17 + bless 4
As the chuul goes limp after Jorin's attack, Hildi pulls against the huge claw to give himself a little wiggle room. He squirms out of the dead creature's grasp and kicks a little as he floats back to stand on the surface. Rising out of the water, he dramatically gasps for air. "Hainard's hairy toes! How many more of those beasts are we going to ... " He looks around, just now realizing he is standing in the mouth of a new cavern all alone.
(Oops... With the chuul slain, Hildigrim didn't need the acrobatics check to escape, just a bit of his normal movement.
If you'd like to do something else with your action, I'll let that roll roll-over.)

Jorin follows Hildigrim up to the surface and says in reply to the halfing's question, "Our tests are many in this place, but we conquer them all." He stows his weapons and takes a look around. Perception: 6 + 2
Jorin and Quillary are a bit premature about looking around. (OOC: Still in initiative order.)
Hildigrim sees a massive eel-like shape deep in the water moving towards Jorin (who is submerged). Before he can notice more, he sees another chuul trying to sneak up on him. The chuul attacks, normally since it was noticed.
Attack1: 23 Damage: 15 (hit)
Attack2: 23 Damage: 12 (hit)
Hildigrim takes 27 damage, and is grappled. The chuul has already used its movement, so they remain at the surface. (Escape grapple with Athletics or Acrobatics vs. DC 14.)
Underwater, Jorin sees the massive 3-eyed tentacled eel monster swimming towards him. At 20' away, Jorin's gaze is drawn to those eyes. He feels a compulsion to obey this creature, and to attack the rest of his party (other than the small betrayer being attacked by a loyal servant). Jorin WIS save vs. DC 14 or be charmed.
At the start of the new combat round, the aboleth's lair action occurs. The water by the passageway surges, and a tide sweeps over that area. Drusk, Pascal, and Quillary roll STR save vs. DC 14 or be pulled 15' into the cavern and knocked prone. (They would also be pulled underwater 5', but water walk would make you float back to the surface.) Drusk save: 15 (save) Pascal save: 17 (save)
(I forgot to do Pascal.) Before the tidal surge (lair action), Pascal casts a ray of frost at the chuul. Attack: 18 Damage: 6 (hits, chuul has 10' less movement)

Hildigrim is grappled by a new chuul. Both are at the surface. (I think Hildigrim is at 27/64 HP.) Jorin is 5' underneath them. The aboleth is 20' west of Jorin, underwater. (Besides the lair action at the start of the round, it can also do legendary actions, after each person's turn.) Drusk and Pascal are still 10' into the passageway. (Quillary is either with them, or prone in the cavern 10' west of the passageway exit.)
Hildigrim, Jorin, Quillary, and Drusk are up.

Hildigrim has just long enough to raise his arms and turn around in an effort to run before the new chuul attacks. The rogue chokes on gasped air and murky water as one claw clamps painfully around his middle and the other slams into the back of his halfling head. As if it was knocked back to mind, he remembers how effective his mind-muddling spell was against the earlier chuul. He quickly casts the spell on the new one with the hope that it will work again.
Id Insinuation (archived):
You unleash a torrent of conflicting desires in the mind of one creature you can see within range, impairing its ability to make decisions. The target must succeed on a DC13 Wisdom saving throw or be incapacitated. At the end of each of its turns, it takes 1d12 psychic damage, and it can then make another Wisdom saving throw. On a success, the spell ends on the target.
Splish splash, she's in the cavern and lying on top of the water.
What can she see and/or fight from here? Or should that be a Perception as Action?
OOC: You didn't include the Bless, so you might still be standing in the passageway.
She has seen Hildi and the newly arrived chuul, before the water splashed around. She also knows that Jorin dove down and hasn't come up (yet).
If the Bless bonus wasn't enough... If Jorin stays down (resists the charm, swims furiously to offset water walk, attacks aboleth), she has the option of keeping her head in the water and noticing the aboleth (free action), but she will be limited to underwater action that round. If she wants to stand up and help Hildi, she doesn't notice the aboleth yet. If Jorin gets charmed, she probably finds out the hard way, as she is the closest to him.
