Jorin's body is now covered in new scars from the grievous wounds he's suffered and the magical healing that's restored him. In addition, this chaff chuul is really making him angry.
(I'd totally rather be putting axe swings into the aboleth but Jorin's back down to 18hp and i don't think taking an AoO is wise...but...how far is the aboleth from Jorin?)
(I'd totally rather be putting axe swings into the aboleth but Jorin's back down to 18hp and i don't think taking an AoO is wise...but...how far is the aboleth from Jorin?)
(Jorin is grappled. It will take an action to try to escape DC 13.
For some reason I thought Moonbeam moved 30' in a round, when it is actually 60'. That is able to catch up to the location of the aboleth.
Since Hildigrim and Jorin are both underwater, Hildigrim can pantomime where Jorin should stab the chuul, since he hasn't used his Bonus Action and can Help from a distance as long as he can be heard OR seen.)
After Hildigrim's arrow missed, you notice that a quartet of Troglodytes are swimming in the passageway, not quite over the aboleth. As a legendary action, it touches one of the trogs. It twitches in pain, then sprawls motionless on the water surface. As the water currents float the dead body back in the direction it came from, a few of the aboleth's wounds heal over.
The other 3 troglodytes seem unconcerned about the death of their companion.

Quillary shakes her head as the dark mantle disappears, but turns and races after the aboleth, the beam of moonlight skittering along ahead of her until it shines on the horror under the water. Her spores swirl around her in her symbiotic form.
Move: full 30' along the top of the water towards the aboleth, as close to it as she can get. Action: Move the 2nd level Moonbeam to shine on the aboleth. Con Save vs DC 15 or 14 radiant damage, half on a save. (And hopefully a concentration check!)
Reaction: She has Absorb Elements ready to go with a first level slot should the elemental attack her with fire. That will give her resistance for that attack and the rest of the turn.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
The chuul is AC 16. Does Jorin hit all three times? Bless for his moon blade attack: 2 Moonblade missed, but other 2 attacks did 29 damage.
Aboleth CON save vs. moonbeam DC 15: 10 Takes 14 radiant damage from moonbeam. (The charm effect on Pascal is not a spell, and does not require concentration. But you know from past fights that damage to the victim sometimes breaks the effect.)
Drusk cannot use the spiritual weapon, as he uses his bonus action for a 1st level Healing Word on Jorin. HP healed: 7 For his action, he moves next to Pascal and punches him (4 damage if it hits). To-hit: 14
The chuul uses its tentacles on Jorin again. CON save vs. DC 13 poison or be paralyzed. It will attack Jorin with a pincer. It swims within 10' of Hildigrim and attacks him with the free pincer.
J Attack: 7 Damage: 7 (just missed!)
H Attack: 12 Damage: 11 (hits, grappled)
The aboleth is in bad shape. (The moonbeam took out a lot of its remaining health.) It swims underneath Quillary (within 10') and makes 3 tentacle attacks.
Attack1: 13 Damage: 13 (hits)
Attack2: 22 Damage: 16 (just misses)
Attack3: 24 Damage: 13 (misses)
The tentacle hit requires a CON save vs. DC 14 for disease. (No immediate effect on a fail.)
Two of the troglodytes swim around the moonbeam, and are 10' away from Quillary. The 3rd one brushed the Moonbeam. Although it saves (does not die from 7 damage), it becomes startled (no longer charmed), and decides to swim back the direction it came (away from battle).
Since Pascal took damage, he gets another WIS save vs DC 14: 8 (still charmed) He casts Hold Person on Drusk. WIS save vs. DC 14: 16 (saved, can continue punching Pascal)
The fire elemental rushes at Quillary. It stays on top of the water due to the steam (like reverse fire walking), but it takes 10 cold damage from the exposure. It strikes twice at Quillary.

The aboleth uses its lair effect to cause the water to batter at the party. Jorin and Hildigrim roll a STR save vs. DC 14 or get knockedprone. (Even if Drusk and Quillary fail, they can use half their movement to stand up. Since Jorin and Hildigrim are grappled, they don't have the movement to "stand up", and the chuul will attack with advantage while they are "prone".)
Everyone still has the Bless effect.
The chuul is under half health. The aboleth is in bad shape. The fire elemental has taken 10 cold damage. There are still 2 troglodytes swimming towards Quillary (10' away).
Hildigrim is at 20 HP, Jorin 28 HP, Pascal 54 HP, Drusk 48 HP, and Quillary's temp HP is at 18. Pascal is still charmed (fighting party).
Quillary has to roll a CON save for Moonbeam concentration (DC 10) and against the tentacle attack (advantage for DC 14 disease). (If she decides to dive 5' down to melee attack the aboleth, she is still within 5' of the fire elemental, so won't risk an AoO.)
Hildigrim, Jorin, and Quillary are up.

Drusk punches Pascal. His bonus action is to move the spiritual weapon closer to the aboleth. (The smiling face weapon is a lot slower than moonbeam was.)
Attack: 20 Damage: 4 (terrible roll misses)

The aboleth again sends a psychic attack through the water as a lair action. Everyone roll a WIS save vs. DC 14, taking 7 psychic damage on a fail.
Quillary should roll 3 CON saves vs. DC 14 disease. (No immediate effect on fail.) She also took fire damage from the fire elemental. Normally she would be set on fire, but I'm going to ignore that since you are standing on a lake and the fire elemental is thrashing in the water. (OOC: Quillary has bad memories about fire, correct? It shouldn't affect combat, but maybe her role-playing reaction is bad.) Quillary's temp HP are gone, and she is down to 21 HP.
Jorin got hit by a fire bolt, and is at 19 HP. (Those were low damage rolls, so maybe Pascal is subconsciously fighting the aboleth's charm.) He is 25' away from Quillary and the aboleth. (With his 40' of movement, he will be able to run next to any foe, including swimming down to the aboleth. Hildigrim has given him Help for his first attack against the aboleth.)
Hildigrim cannot get in melee range, but has his bow for ranged attacks from the water surface. (Shooting at the aboleth underwater will be at disadvantage.)
The aboleth is still low on HP after the spore necrotic damage. (It will drain the life from the troglodyte when it can.) Pascal is still charmed. The fire elemental has taken 20 damage total, but still burns brightly. The dead chuul uses its Action to inertly float to the lake bottom and begin decomposing.

(OOC: Hildigrim get disadvantage on underwater combat no matter what, since his ranged weapon isn't a javelin or crossbow. He only went underwater on previous shots when the aboleth was using cover from an underwater tunnel on the west wall. It had moved to the southeast corner, so it doesn't have cover now.
You can decide whether you want Hildigrim to stay at the surface or dive down, but either way I'll need another d20 roll for the disadvantage. The bless roll stays the same.)
