Hildigrim and Quillary get the sense that Egon, although annoying, is honestly doing his job. He does not seem to be in cahoots with the were-halflings or with Emmek.

Quillary is just going to act cold and standoffish as she knows elves to be, in order to, she thinks, class up the place. So no, she won’t talk to Egon.

Egon leaves. A bit grumpy, as he was looking forward to a savage report about the mansion being overrun by rodents, but the "anonymous" tip failed to deliver. In two days, the Fellowship of Innkeepers delivers a scroll permitting the Road's End Bistro to be open for business. The planned inspection before opening is cancelled, as the surprise inspection found no problems.
You don't see any signs of the were-halfling gang. Evidently they moved to a different part of the city, someplace without bears and giants and treants.
Emmek has gone missing. The building next to the book store still has the "Opening Soon!" sign, but there are no signs of repairs or any deliveries to that wanna-be pub.
(A little more before the next adventure...)
Are there any tool skills or languages or other uses of Downtime that you'd like to use? I want to give Drusk the brewer's tools proficiency. If you have something in mind, this is the time to get it, as long as it isn't an excessive amount of Downtime.
Someone roll for how the first week of the Bistro goes. It is a d100+10, consulting the Running a Business table in the DMG. For the first week, there is an additional +20 from advertising done by the noble who was helping pay the costs when he hired the party for the earlier assistance.

Just in case it matters, the "noble" helping to pay is Renaer Neverember, who is the son of Dagult Neverember, former Open Lord of Waterdeep (so the face of Waterdeep's rulers), thrown over three years ago, but now the de facto ruler of Neverwinter. So, not just some noble, but a pretty well connected one. Renaer (son) is not on speaking terms with his father (Dagult).

Hildigrim would like to buy 7 arrows and copy Detect Thoughts into his spell book. Does it cost double to copy it into both books?
As much as Hildi was hesitant to get involved in running the business, he just can't help himself. Just like he put his mind to work to benefit his family's fishing business, he begins to analyze everything from customer relations to ordering and maintaining stock.
I don't know how you want to interpret this, but I'm hoping it gives the Road's End an awesome beginning and maybe some bonuses going forward.
(sorry of the absence, we got a puppy and so things have been bonkers around the house lol)
Jorin would like to do two things during the downtime. He'd like to spend some time at the forge building various bits and bobs for road's end - door knobs, hinges, knockers, iron handles for mugs, maybe some steel art for the walls, that sort of thing to give the interior decor a real artisan touch.
He'd also like one of the party members to teach him their native/racial language if its other than common. He speaks Dwarvish and Elvish. I'm not sure if Drusk speaks orc, or if Quillary would teach him druidic, but something along those lines.
Quillary can’t teach him Druidic, but she can give him instruction on Primordial, the language that is the basis for elemental languages. Of course, it came to her during a… traumatic part of her life, so she doesn’t know any grammatical rules and the like. But she’s a patient teacher. Or, she also knows Sylvan from her time with the elves and her interactions with the Fey, that might be easier to pass on since he already speaks elvish.

Also, Quillary has no downtime activities planned. She will continue to spottily attend her “job” at the cemetery, and to ineffectively help out at the Road’s End, to explore her flying wild shapes, to observe water creatures at the harbor and the bay, and explore those wild shapes.
Jorin should pick. Quillary sells them like this, “The oldest language I know is the beginning language, shared by the elements themselves, though… I am not sure if I would be a good instructor, as they are not usually talkative, and so you would have only me and my… word, to rely on. I am also versed in the language of the Fey, and the creatures of the fey wilds, it’s a freer, more lovely language than elvish.”

Hildigrim would like to buy 7 arrows and copy Detect Thoughts into his spell book. Does it cost double to copy it into both books?
Drusk will take 121 gp out of party funds to cover those costs. A 2nd level spell is 4 hours / 100 gp for the main book, and 2 hours / 20 gp for a backup copy. (I'll see if there is an opportunity for Hildigrim to get the fancy magic quiver that has a lot of capacity.)
He'd also like one of the party members to teach him their native/racial language if its other than common. He speaks Dwarvish and Elvish. I'm not sure if Drusk speaks orc, or if Quillary would teach him druidic, but something along those lines.
During the off-days, Jorin builds bits and bobs to add shiny metal to the wood and stone of the manor.
For languages, Drusk does speak Orcish, but considers that rubbish. (The influence of Elf upbringing.) He does offer to teach Gnomish, which Jorin might want if he is going to be working with tinkerers. And although Pascal will be staying at the Road's End to run the Bistro (instead of adventuring), he would offer to teach Jorin the Draconic or Giantish languages. So there are a lot of choices.
Also, Quillary has no downtime activities planned. She will continue to spottily attend her “job” at the cemetery, and to ineffectively help out at the Road’s end, to explore her flying wild shapes, to observe water creatures at the harbor and the bay, and explore those wild shapes.
I'll deduct another 20 gp from party funds, to cover the multiple zoo and aviary annual memberships that Quillary has signed up for. Drusk isn't sure why she needs so many, but best to keep Quillary happy.
Someone give me that d100+50 roll for the Bistro opening week! (The normal mod is +10. Renaer is doing some advertising the first week, for another +20. At Hildigrim's urging and planning (post 5197), 20 gold is spent from party funds to do even more advertising.)
The table for running a business in the DMG is a bit weird. The profit is a fixed amount, so it would make more sense to have a small business (small fixed costs) than a large one. The Bistro costs 60 gp per tenday (which includes salaries for Fanny, waiters, and kitchen staff). If we get profits, I'll add multiples of 3 GP (5% of costs) to the amount. Even though we are spending an extra 20 GP this opening week on advertising, we can decide later how much we actually want to spend on a regular basis.
Modified Bistro business table (per tenday): 01-20 Pay 1.5x maintenance costs (90 GP) 21-30 Pay maintenance costs (60 GP) 31-40 Pay half maintenance costs (30 GP) 41-60 Business covers it own costs. 61-80 Covers costs, plus profit of 1d6 x 5 GP (+3) 81-90 Covers costs, plus profit of 2d8 x 5 GP (+6) 91+ Covers costs, plus profit of 3d10 x 5 GP (+9)

As for languages, Hildi learns so easily that he's a horrible teacher, so it wouldn't be in your interest to try to get him to teach you anything. "What do you mean you don't remember the 100 vocabulary words we memorized this morning?"
Oh ya, Gnomish would make sense. I think he's between Gnomish for the tinkers aspect and primordial because, something about using fire in the forge and being able to speak to the fire intrigues him (i know thats not how it works but thats definitely how Jorin thinks it works, lol). Actually, lets do that, primordial, so that Jorin can talk to his forge while he works.
Quillary is very excited to work with Jorin on the language of the basis of everything, right up until he mentions he wants it to talk to fire. Then she shuts down, climbs up to her garret, turns into a bird and flies away, spends days at a time at the cemetery, and otherwise avoids him. She is very sad about this, but refuses to explain why unless he manages to corner her somehow.

After several days of trying to talk to her only have to her flee, he decides the obvious answer here is to lie in wait in her garret in such a way as to block a path between the door at the window(s) (if thats possible) and wait for her to arrive, at which point he will say, "Quillary, wait a moment.
