The party informs Pascal of the impending trip, and quickly makes preparations. Although Quillary was the first one to hurry the group to Greenfast, Jorin is the one who pushes the pace.
His barbarian stamina has him barely breaking a sweat, while the other 3 are wheezing by the time you reach the outskirts of Greenfast. (1 level of exhaustion = disadvantage on ability checks) (I'll give Jorin advantage on the next STR or DEX ability check he makes, since he has warmed-up properly.)
Map is in the spoiler (only so it doesn't use up screen space when you aren't using it):
I had trouble seeing the map clearly, so I tossed in some paint.
Brown = paths, blue = river, violet = houses/barns, green = trees
The red X is the current position of the party, after coming from Waterdeep. The sun is low on the horizon, but you still have an hour of sunlight.
As you pass the farms, some of the villagers fail to notice your arrival, as they are trying to finish their field work before nightfall. Others notice you, but show shyness or wariness of strangers in their village,
On the map are 3 numbers. (1) is the The Bulging Cauldron. Hildigrim was informed that this is the primary tavern in the village, and that Old Man Fargo can be asked to rent spare rooms overnight or by the ten-day.
(2) is the largest building in the village, designed and constructed better than anything else around. (Definitely not a farmhouse or a barn.)
(3) Quillary notices a quartet of rough-looking men resting outside the barn (perception 18), watching your party walk south along the path. Drusk continues smiling, but talks softly to not be overheard (perception 24). "You know how right after Hildigrim learned psionic magic, that he complained about being watched? Or how we sometimes feel like that hag is somehow looking through my magic shield? Those men seem to be paying a lot more attention to us than the others, even though they are pretending not to. I noticed their hands tensed (like an instinct to grab weapon handles) when Quillary waved to them... They haven't moved from the barn, but I'll keep an eye on them while they are still visible."
"Where are we headed to? I'm tired, so getting a place to rest at the tavern sounds good to me. But we wanted to get here in time to do some of the looking around today while it was still light."

(I am over the moon that you knew exactly what Quillary would have done with their attention! Ha! She totally would have made sure that they knew that she knew that they were watching, and waving with a bit of a feral smile would have been what she would have done!)
Quillary glances at Drusk as he notes their interest. “They will keep their distance if they know what is well. Or report on us to their master. I think we should consider turning in, but the tavern keeper is likely to know how we might find our quarry, this Faerl elf. We can both secure rooms and ask after him, perhaps, and then decide?”

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Hildigrim cranes his neck, trying to spot the men Drusk is talking about, but he finally shrugs and keeps moving, deciding to let the others watch his back. In response to Quillary's suggestion, he nods. "Sound reasoning."
Jorin checks his belt and pats around his pack when a slight look of panic comes over his face, "I forgot ale! I was enjoying feeling the open air on my face so much that i did not even reach for my road ale. We must go to the tavern, for room, yes, for a lead, sure, but for ale, we must!"
The party goes to The Bulging Cauldron. The tavern has a warm, homey feel, and is starting to fill with locals who are finishing their workday and are looking for dinner
You are greeted by a human commoner with an old flannel shirt and riding hat. "Greeting strangers. Old Fargo bids you welcome. Sit down at one of the smaller tables, and someone will be by soon to take your orders for drinks and food."
Drusk tries to ask some questions, but Old Fargo is busy as dinner service is starting up. Drusk: "Then I'll ask two quick questions. We were told that you rent rooms on the second floor to travelers? We are only staying a night or two, but we'd like to rent both rooms. I'll pay for 3 nights, and you can keep the change if we leave early." Drusk hands over 3 gp from the part funds.
Now that Old Fargo is paying more attention, Drusk continues. "You can tell by my vestment that I am a servant of Lliira. Whenever I visit a new town, I try to spread her joy to the local elves. I'm looking for a business-type by the name of Faerl, can you give us directions? I was hoping to talk to him tonight, since we will be busy tomorrow."
Old Fargo looks a bit skeptical at the half-orc and the rest of you, but gold in the hand and a polite attitude make him relax. (Reminder that there is a map in post 5330.) "You have the use of the rooms, but you'll have to wait until dinner service is over before they'll be ready... As for Faerl, that sourpuss can definitely use some "joy", good luck to you with that. If you hurry, you can get to his house before it gets dark. Cross back over the river bridge, turn right (northwest) for the road headed towards Waterdeep. Go past the lord's house on the hill. After the path turns right (north), Faerl's house will be on your left (west). If you stay on the path, after a bit it has a path to the west that takes you to four houses, including Faerl's, but that is longer than taking the shortcut through the field."

Hildigrim does a double take as Quillary leaves. Face drooping a little with the realization that food will have to wait, the halfling gives Old Fargo a half-hearted bow and then plots after the druid.
Drusk: "If we want to talk to Faerl, the time would be now. Even though elves can see in the dark, most people aren't eager to invite a bunch of armed strangers into their house at night. The food will still be here after we finish."

(If you look at the map in post 5330, starting at the tavern at #1, you cross back over the river bridge, head west, then turn north towards the "X". Just slightly west of that bend is Faerl's house.)
The party cuts across the field, circles to the south side of the house, and arrives at the west side, where the entrance is. (Looking at the map, there is another house further west, #3 to the NW, and two more houses further north.)
It is dusk and dim light, but it is still bright enough for another 10 minutes for the party to be able to see without using torches or Light. Faerl's house has all the unglazed window shutters closed. There are flickers of fire light in the cracks of the window frame, and smoke coming out of the chimney, so probably a cooking fire inside.

If we have time, Jorin will take a quick and quiet jog around the house. If there is a back door, he'll post up there, otherwise he'll return to group in the front.
The party approached from the east, so would have seen the back entrance / kitchen door on that side. Jorin stays with the party, circling to the south of the house to the west side with the main entrance. He asks them to wait a moment as he completes circling around the north, back to the east side.
The party sees Volo leave Hildi's shoulder, but then vanish from sight. With the dim light and the nearby trees, the owl is able to be silent and out of sight. Nothing to report, other than Jorin checking out the back door. (Nothing threatening around the house. Let me know what new orders were given to Volo.)
After a moment, Quillary knocks on the front door of the comfortable cottage.
Portrait of Faerl:
For Jorin only:
On closer inspection, the back door hasn't been used in some time. The dirt and mildew around the door edges and leading up to the door are undisturbed. It is locked and barred, so even with his giant strength, it will take some effort to force the door open.
Jorin can decide if he wants to stay there, or do anything specific while waiting.
For Quillary, Hildigrim, and Drusk:
After a moment, you are greeted by Faerl. He isn't wearing the oversized red hat from his portrait, but he is still dressed in pompous finery, a bit much for someone hanging out in his own home. He speaks precisely, but in a volume so low that it forces people to pay close attention to him. With a slight sneer: "Who are you, and why are you at my house at this hour?"

When the others express that they feel it's best to go, Hildigrim nods, looking not at all upset. He rubs his palms together. "Let's get going, then."
