“I will delay them,” Quillary announces, stepping out the door into the gathering dark. There is a sound like splintering bone in a waterfall, Quillary gives a growl and her shadowy form crouches as if in pain, then stands throwing wide her cloak, but it seems so much larger, then there is an enormous rushing sound and a buffet of wind as something huge launches itself into the air, climbing fast.
Wild Shape into Giant Owl. She launches into the air, climbing high and looking for any approaching trouble.

Jorin has the option of following the giant owl out the front door, or staying inside. Everyone else has already stated their immediate actions. (Drusk will stand guard over Faerl, but will listen to any suggestions from Hildi or Jorin to do something different. He doesn't currently have Hold Person, unfortunately.)
Faerl WIS save vs. DC 13: 3
Hildigrim casts the spell on himself, and turns his mind to Faerl.
For Hildigrim only:
Faerl was thinking about the 4 men from the barn, rushing to the house after the signal of the window shutters being opened. They are definitely coming to fight.
After Hildigrim mentions Viallis, Hildi sees in his mind the house at the top of the hill, south of this house.
Only for a moment, but Hildi also sees a memory from 5 years ago. Faerl is standing with Lord Viallis, amid a grove of gnarled scrub trees. Faerl points to a half-fallen stone tower, long abandoned and crumbling, and suggests it is a suitable site for a summer home.
Jorin and Drusk see Quillary transform into a Giant Owl. She barrels out the front door. Almost immediately, there is loud owl squawking, and startled outbursts of several men.
For Quillary only:
The 4 men from the barn were about to enter the house. The giant owl avoided running into them, but was also caught off guard. Next round, she will start 10' up in the air, out of melee range for any weapons with 5' reach.

Jorin Initiative: 13
I feel like Drusk and Hildigrim can handle Faerl, and Jorin rushing out behind Quillary is certainlly Jorin's jam, so Jorin draw his blades and head outside. I'd like to try to follow Quillary as best I can from ground, making use of whatever cover is available to hopefully pounce on the bad guys while they are distracted by the giant owl.

Jorin goes outside, to see the 4 guys from the barn (the ones watching the party enter the village). They have their weapons drawn. They were approaching the house, but are startled by the giant owl, who is currently 10 ft. up.
(I'm going to roll the rest of the initiatives, since I have some time right now.)
Hildigrim: 25 Drusk: 19 Faerl: 8 Two goons in splint armor: 8 , 3 Two goons in leather armor: 11 , 9
(To make things simpler for me, the initiative order will be: 2 splint mail goons Jorin & Quillary 2 leather armor goons, Faerl Hildigrim and Drusk )
Drusk will ask Hildigrim a quick question (since he doesn't know what Hildi knows): "Do we knock this guy out? If he turns out to be innocent, we will be jailed for assaulting a citizen."

Move: Flyby (no AOO) the men, diagonals are confusing, but Giant Owls fly 60’ so, she’ll end up 15’ up and maybe 20’ away? Action: non-lethal strike with talons at a leather armored goon, 9 to hit, for 3 damage

Q-Owl's claws glance off the leather armor, failing to do damage. Answer about owl-grappling next. (Only in spoilers to save space in the forum. Anyone can read it.)
The giant owl has 13 STR, so can carry 15x13 = 195 lbs. The average D&D human is 165 lbs + equipment.
If the Giant Owl is successful with a grapple, she could lift one of the leather armor guys, spending double movement (10' for every 5' actually moved), and "end" the grapple at any time (can drop at end of turn if desired). The guys in splint armor are too heavy.
HOWEVER, the grapple contest is a STR check. With one level of exhaustion, the Owl would have disadvantage for this particular encounter.
Jorin wields his razor-sharp radiant axe, and pummels the goon with drawing any blood. 28 points is a good chunk of his health, but still over half health.
Faerl uses the commotion to Disengage from Drusk and Hildigrim, and runs out of the house. Any attempts by Jorin to de-escalate the situation are dashed when Faerl tells the goons, "They plan to kidnap the Lord Viallis! Capture them!"
Both leather-clad goons cast Hold Person on Jorin. 2 WIS saves vs DC 11 or be paralyzed. (I was planning on having one target Quillary... but she is a giant owl.)
Drusk will run out of the house, and whack Faerl (non-lethal). Despite lounging in his house for dinner, the elf is wearing breastplate and has a rapier in his hand.
Attack: 22 Damage: 10 (miss)
Hildigrim is up. Hildigrim can get into melee range of any of the foes. (Ranged attacks and spells do not have a non-lethal option, like melee attacks do.) Will allow Volo to do a fly-by Help for Hildi this turn, but Hildigrim should give any orders for next round.

Start of the 2nd round...
The two splint armor goons decide to attack the paralyzed Jorin. Bravely attacking someone who can't fight back, they urge the leather goons to take care of the rest of the party.
