"Right you were!" Jorin calls out to pascal and, recalling the tactical acumen used to defeat the host of oozes in the Lich's lair, he bats the flat of his blade against the reaching, psuedo-limb of the ooze while backing away.

OOC: Sometimes, it's amazing how stupid I am. Hildi has a crossbow as well as a shortbow. No bolts, however. But what does he need with a rapier, two daggers, a crossbow and a shortbow? The guy's less than three feet tall. How is he carrying all this?
Hildigrim lets out a bark of laughter as he backs up to where he was before he moved forward to examine the duergar while readying his shortbow. "Right you were, my red friend." He draws back an arrow and attempts to keep the gray ooze from injuring anyone else by injuring it first. "Now that the ooze is out of the bag ..."
Hildi takes a step back, drawing his bow and loosing an arrow at the ooze while it is still distracted reaching for Jorin. He hits true (23), and pierces it clean (11 dmg). Jorin fends off a couple of pseudopods with his axes, and backs away. Pascal looses a burst of cold, hitting the thing squarely (23), and causing ice to form across its slimy exterior (6 dmg, slowed).
The creature had begun to slime its way out of the latrine, but the cold arrests its journey, and it waves feebly at the party, which remains out of reach.
Finally, Drusk calls down the light of Lliira again, that worked so well on other oozes, but this one seems to have his number (Save is 12).
Notes: Jorin couldn't back up 20' without leaving the room and his companions. My fault for not having a map. But it worked out because Pascal's frost slowed the ooze so it could not go very far. Ilena Delayed, so she can declare and act now.
Next: Ilena can declare and act, since she Delayed.
Ilena, noting that even her more stalwart companions are backing away from the ooze, and still feeling the pain from the earlier bandit attack, moves to the space south (relative to the map) of Hidli to get away from the ooze, throwing a dart.
The ooze is not hard to hit (11), and Ilena's dart does a surprising amount of damage (6 dmg), the thing splits and splatters into several inert gray puddles, its animating force gone.
Notes: Quasimodal pointed out that the ooze's resistance to cold would have halved the damage from Pascal, but I went ahead and rolled the thing's hp (instead of taking the book value) and it came in low (18 see edit to #624), so Ilena's dart took it over the edge, even so. Yay! Thank you, Quasimodal. I'm always open to correction!
Next: This little weird combat is now over, back to exploring!

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Drusk will apply a Sacred Flame to the latrine, because he is guessing the bandits weren't big on hygiene (even before the grey ooze gave them a reason to slack off the cleaning duties). After that, a quick check for any objects out in the open in that closet (not digging into the muck). Someone else can check the grey ooze leftovers.

With a disinfecting "fwoomph!" Drusk cleans the lavatory with Lliira's flame. In the room afterwards are the remaining possessions of two goblins who didn't make it out. There's nothing useful, it is all corroded and pitted by the ooze's acid, including what might have once been some copper coins. The goblins' bones are found among the puddles of goo left from the ooze's death.

Not that anyone is surprised, Hildigrim steps forward to look at — but not touch — the puddles of ooze. Once again: "Fascinating."
When everyone is ready to continue through the south door, the halfling will bravely take point, attempting to move quietly and keeping an eye out for anything of note.
Okay... Hildi opens the door after much checking, and though it creaks alarmingly, nothing happens. The hallway immediately turns south. He peers around the corner, and to his surprise, sees a long hallway leading to stairs up, and at the end of those stairs there is a room, lit by torchlight like is in the room you are leaving.
This hallway is about 25 feet long to get to the stairs, which rise for another five feet into an open room. Because it is well lit, Hildi can see figures moving about in the room, maybe three or four, he can't be sure without getting closer (from where you are, the stairs only leave a little bit to see above their last step).
How do you proceed down the hall? What precautions do you take? You can move silently. You can crouch to try to not be seen as you approach the stairs (but they only rise five feet, it's not a full ten foot rise).
Your default Explore Order has been Hildi, Jorin (w/lit axe), Drusk, Ilena, Pascal in the rear. Let me know if that is different from your "Approach an inhabited room in an enemy hideout" order.
Hildigrim ducks back into the room and tells everyone what he saw. "It would behoove us to apprehend one of these unknowns in order to interrogate them," the halfling says. "For all we know, we're on the wrong trail." He thinks for a second. "Though, the presence of the one we saw at the Portal makes me wonder if we're on some kind of right trail. To be able to avenge Yagra makes my heart happy." He'll then suggest Jorin extinguish his axe so they can approach a little more stealthily.

If the order earlier is still acceptable (Hildi, Jorin, Drusk, Ilena, Pascal) then I’d like everyone to make Stealth rolls, please, for the approach. Do let me know if you’re doing something other than creeping down the hallway towards the room.
