The Long Road - Game Thread

(Yeah, I’ll drop it.)

Pascal lands with a thud, as the flames immediately die, “Oh, mon frere, good try! Unfortunately, seems you ain’t too bright, no?”

Quillary's eyes sparkle as the flames die. She rushes the half-ogre, twirling her club, which is trailing black motes and gray ash. On her way past Jorin, she laughs and says, 
"Up, Jorin of the Boat! There are still foes to batter!"

Move: to close with Sundeth
Bonus Action: Cast Healing Word with a 3rd level slot on Jorin (so at distance, she doesn't have to touch him) for 14 healing.
Action: Attack with magicked club. 16 to hit, for 12 magical bludgeoning, plus 1 necrotic damage.
Reaction: At the start of his turn (if he gets there) he must Con Save vs DC 15 or her halo of spores will cause him 5 necrotic damage.

Edit: the halo of spores Reaction is on Sundeth (don't want to edit the line itself for fear of the dreaded manipulated dice rolls error)

Although Quillary's club is aimed well, the blow fails to penetrate the plate armor.

Wyvern target...  odds: Drusk, evens: Hildigrim - 1

Forgot to roll another CON save at the end of Drusk's round vs DC 13: 16

The wyvern targets Drusk, thinking to take advantage of his blinded state, but his vision is restored in time (no adv.).

• Stinger Attack: 20 Damage: 13 + 24 poison (CON save DC 15)
• Claws Attack: 19 Damage: 17

The wyvern stays where it is (within melee range, not overhead out of reach).

Hildigrim's turn, then Pascal and Jorin to start the next round. (Pascal is prone.)

(Why does this wyvern keep getting criticals with its tail attack? Drusk CON save: 10  sigh)

The claws glance off Drusk's armor. But then the tail stabs the chest, excess venom flowing from the wound, like what happened to Jorin. (64 damage total, and Drusk started at his max of 52.) Drusk starts to fall over... then bellows in anger. His orcish Relentless Endurance has him at 1 hp.

Hildigrim's turn, then Pascal and Jorin to start the next round. (Pascal is prone.)

That wyvern really hates us

At first, watching Quillary run toward Sundeth, Hildigrim raises his bow at the half-ogre. However, when the wyvern attacks and almost lays out Drusk, the halfling changes targets and releases an arrow at the wyvern.

+1 shortbow attack: 10; damage: 6 piercing damage

Sneak attack: 10

The rogue then yells his own encouragement at Jorin, giving him some insight into hitting the dragonette to help Drusk.

Down to few options, Pascal draws his pairing knife with a burst of green flame!

Attack: 18 Damage: 5 slashing damage... which clinks harmlessly off of Sundeth’s armor.

”Oh well, I uh, you see, uh.” He dusts Sundeth’s armor off a bit, “Noticed a bit o’ rust right arou- SNEAK ATTACK!”

He lunges for his Hungry Jaws Bonus Action: Attack: 18 Damage: 3 piercing damage!

"Bite him Pascal, bite him!"  Jorin shouts his encouragement.

(OOC: Sundeth is AC 18. I wish this roll was 1 higher, that would have been an awesome move by Pascal.)

Jorin is up. (Jorin is not raging, since he was previously unconscious. Assume that if Sundeth is hit by an attack that has your STR bonus, he is going down, The first attack on the wyvern will have ADV from Hildi.)

Jorin stands to his feet and bears down on Sundeth, "Its time you draw your last!"

• Movement: 20 ft to stand up, 5 ft north, charging at Sundeth
• Bonus Action: Oh you know we about to R-A-G-E RAGE!  (Last rage before long rest)
• Action:  Reckless Battleaxe!
  • First Attack: 26 Damage: 12
  • Second Attack: 29 Damage: 15
• Divine fury of 4 radiant damage to the first hit that lands
• If the first blow lands, and Sundeth falls, Jorin pivots 5 ft east and sends the 2nd battleaxe attack at the wyvern.

Pascal's "hungry jaws" attack catches Sundeth by surprise, but with the height difference, Pascal's teeth close inches away from Sundeth's face. His startled look melts into one of smug arrogance. "You puny beings cannot stop the mighty Sundeth!" Then that look goes back to startled, as he sees Jorin's axe penetrate Sundeth's plate armor, with a blaze of holy microwave's topping off the strike. Sundeth collapses.

Jorin closes on the wyvern and gets a little payback. After struggling against Sundeth's plate armor, the wyvern's leather skin is easier to slice.

Drusk will cast Death Ward on himself. (Acts like another Relentless Endurance, so he is okay at 1 hp for now.)

Quillary is up. (Sundeth loses his spot. Wyvern is next, then Hildigrim.)

Quillary looks sad that Jorin got the final blow on Sundeth, but turns to strike at the Wyvern.

Move: to close with the Wyvern if needed
Action: Attack with magicked club. 22 to hit, for 8 magical bludgeoning, plus 6 necrotic damage.
Reaction: At the start of the wyvern's turn it must Con Save vs DC 15 or her halo of spores will cause him 2 necrotic damage.

Quillary bashes it in the side of the head, knocking some teeth loose. The spores streak in, and do another 6 points of tooth decay.

Wyvern's turn. CON save vs DC 15:  6  (2 more damage from spore lashing)

The wyvern will us a tail attack at Jorin (w/adv), and a bite at Quillary.

• Tail Attack: 22 Damage: 10  (before Rage reduction)
• If the tail hits, 22 poison damage, CON save vs DC 15 to halve.
• Bite: Attack: 21 Damage: 12

The tail misses Jorin, but its jaws close solidly around Quillary. It lifts its head back, surprised that she is not harmed. (Her temp HP is down 21 from that critical.)

Hildigrim is up. (Jorin and Quillary are in melee range of the wyvern.)

Jorin turns the barbed stinger away with a deft flick of the moonblade!

Quillary’s spores rush in where the wyvern’s teeth pierce her skin. (7 temp hp left and 1 real hp)

Hildigrim grits his teeth and allows a quiet cheer as he sees Sundeth fall. The rogue draws back his bow and releases another arrow at the wyvern.

+1 shortbow attack: 23; damage: 8 piercing damage

Sneak attack: 11

And then the halfling comments to Pascal something about trying to bite the wyvern instead.

Hildigrim's arrow finds a sensitive spot near the wyvern's tail (22 damage).

Pascal is up, and has advantage on his first to-hit roll. After Pascal is done, Jorin will be up. 

Pascal just gestures wildly at the beast, as it makes ANOTHER Nat 20,  “ALRIGHT SOMEONE WANNA EXPLAIN HOW THIS THING FIGHTS LIKE A DAGGUM DEMIGOD! HOOOWEE, WHICH ONE’A DA GODS DID WE TICK OFF, EH!? WHAT KINDA VOODOO!”

Fire bolt!: Attack: 26 Damage: 22 fire damage

The fire bolt goes into the mouth of the wyvern. Its head is briefly obscured in smoke, but as it thins the wyvern slams to the earth.

(Combat over.)

Drusk will ask Hildigrim and Pascal: "You are both mostly unhurt, right?" Drusk holds up his holy symbol, and uses Channel Divinity: Preserve Life. (last use)

Jorin now has 36 HP, Quillary & Drusk have 16 HP.

At this time, you hear some hammering from the door. The voice outside is yelling, but faintly audible through the thick door. "Commander, sir, is everything okay? We heard some noises, and wondered if you wanted the guards to come in." Drusk points out that Silence ended when he got stabbed in the chest by the poison tail. They wouldn't have heard Pascal's fireball, but the crashing of furniture and yells of combat were probably heard outside, although through the door not loud enough to be certain what the noises were.

Jorin huffs and wobbles a bit before steadying himself.  He chuckles a bit and says  "Aye, those were two, great foes we felled!"  He takes a deep breath and some more of his wounds close up. (+ 10 hp from Second Wind).
