Fenric just sits on the middle cart in the caravan with his bow in hand just taking in the surroundings to ensure that there are no threats still lingering.
Ehlora rushes to the window of the living room to check outside, "There's another one!" She hisses to the room, not entirely abandoning stealth, but realizing the area is very hostile. "It's by the road; it's not moving, just hanging there."
(Salt Mine Caravan)
The company spurs their mounts and meets the caravan in less than a minute. Despite their non-hostile reputation, the surround the caravan, but don't level weapons. A knight next to the bannerman is the first to address, "Steer wide of that foul smoke. A coven of witches rode within, but they've been purged. We were tasked by River's Rush to look into news of dissapearances, and after questioning, they admitted to delivering sacrifices to a nearby farm. Sadly, no captives were found within their wagons."

Within the cellar, Taegon and Vasha creep along the walls and boxes. As they near halfway across the cellar, a scratching can be heard ahead. Freezing for a heartbeat, a rat the size of a small dog scurries out from behind a crate. It sniffs at the far wall, about 15' in front of you both. It doesn't seem aware of you, but it could turn at any moment...
(You have a Surprise round against this rat. Roll initiative here or in Discord (1d20+Dex modifier) and we'll follow initiative order outside of the Discord server as I don't think it'll track 2 different fights. Once you roll initiative, you will effectively have an entire round (you and Vasha) to act, then in Round 2 the rat will be able to act as normal in its own initiative order.)

IC: Fenric just sneered at the men, unsure if he was telling the truth - it wouldn't be the first time he has heard of people claiming others as monsters just to loot their caravan. He didn't say anything though, these men were well armed and would easily win in a head to head fight.

Leaf charges upstairs with the others and drones an eerie, throaty groan. The old woman wobbles as her world spins and heart flutters, but she ultimately regains herself, albeit shooken up. Unfortunately, Uruk seized this opportunity and charged with his shield forward. In the darkened room, the haggard witch never stood a chance and the last thing ahe saw was a flash of steel on the emissary's axe before her head hit the floor, "Now, friends, outside! We must destroy all evil pets of this witch." Weaving around his allies, the goliath rushes downstairs and onto the front porch.

(Random encounter, Day 2, 6am-noon)
As the wagon train rolls on, morning progresses without too much incident. However, as you crest a hill, a pair of men stand in the road with a log across the path. To either side of the road, a hill rests with a rocky face toward you, and ditches have been dug alongside the road and up to the base of the hills. The path is effectively blocked for wheeled traffic.
Of the pair, one holds a spear and smiles at the approaching caravan. The other holds a crossbow and seems interested in anything but your approach. The smiling man waves at you when you come within 30' and steps over the log, "Mornin' ev'ryone! We're here to collect toll for this road. Five gold coins for each wagon, one for each of you. So, twenty and four gets you by."
The caravan leader is the first to speak up, "I don't remember any tolls so soon along this road. Who is levying these tolls?" Despite his question, he seems used to this process and climbs in back of his open-top wagon to rummage through some crates.

Fenric draws an arrow and knocks it just sitting on the top of the caravan as he's been doing.
"Is this from the leadership of this area or are you just highway thieves trying to make an easy coin?" he asks looking at the man trying to determine what he is. insight20
He narrowed his eyes as his voice moved deeper and more threatening. The drawn arrow moving back in the bow as it raised to mid stance "If you're Highwaymen, I suggest you let this cart pass. My friends and I have been hired to protect this caravan, that means the gold on it as well." intimidation18
The man behind the log levels his crossbow at Fenric, "Put it down, no sense in bloodshed here." The caravan leader counts out clinking metal behind the low wall of the wagon as Jeric scoots close to him and mumbles something.
Fin walks around to the side with a shield ready and a hand resting on the head of an axe at his hip. "Men in service of lords would use the name of their sovereign before anything else. Also, tolls in gold are far too much for such common roads. Where are your colors?" Fin had looked very unassuming before, but his carriage and demeanor took on more authority. The spear-wielding man began to fold and fumble over excuses as the interrogation piled on more questions. The man in back with the crossbow began looking more and more anxious.
Fin's interrogation finally hit a peak when he stood in the front man's face screaming with his hand under the head of a half-drawn axe, "Damnit, answer me now and stop looking around or I'll drag you back to River's Rush for common banditry and hung!" The man in the rear had enough, let out a whistle, and leveled his crossbow at the caravan leader with Jeric. On the two flanking hills, five men on each side sprung up, with three on each side rushing down the hill with clubs and hatchets while two remained on top with bows and javelins.
