Sen Initiative 20
Durven initiative 7
Sen and Durven dive to the ground as four figures pop up from the fallen trees on each side of the stream. The best you can tell in the chaos of the ambush is that they are vaguely humanoid but look tree-like.
Durven grunts as a large thorn pierces his leg before he can dive to the ground. He brings his crossbow to bear on the left bank and fires twice. Each bolt finding its mark. Sen follows the same target and connects once. One of the Wortlings falls to the ground.

Sorry guys, work has been busy.
I will yell to Merric, "seems they have a tree-mendous aversion to crossbow bolts!" Sen will sweep around and take two shots at one on the opposite side of the trail.

Merric, seeing Sen shooting at one of the creatures, moves quickly behind him to attempt to get a shot from hiding (and also some cover from return fire):
Stealth: 30
Shortbow Attack: 27 Damage: 37 (Enemy get's +2 to AC)
Forgot to roll at advantage for being hidden. Alternate roll: 26

Since we're allowing it, I'll have my turn written up. Just place it in sequence as necessary.
It was only an instant that she had to react, but Dathyra wasn't fast enough. She only heard the tiniest crack of a twig before the darts came whizzing through the air. Before she could even turn around to find the source of the projectiles, one struck her just above the knee. The force alone was enough to make her wince, and she was sure she heard a sickening crack. Her body wanted to react quickly. They were in danger, and she was in pain. Instinct told her to get down and fast, but she lowered herself slowly, hoping to not make her wound worse. The snow on the ground was cold, but at least staying low was safer than whatever was coming at them. She saw Sen and Merric shooting at the creatures, wherever they were. She was having a hard time seeing exactly where they were as they still emerged from the forest. First thing was first. She wasn't the only one who took a hit. Merric had fallen to the ground just before ducking behind Sen, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a trickle of blood oozing from a wound in Durven's leg.
Gathering as much concentration as she could, she knew there was one useful thing she could do, and she had to do it quick. Another hit like that and she would be in real trouble. In her hand, she grasped her amulet so tight, she thought she could just about break it with her grip. "Asie ilya harwe," she said, trying to keep her voice strong and steady.
Dathyra uses Mass Healing Word on Harivaldr, Merric, Sen, and Durven (if that counts for anything with him).
Heal: 3
She winced again. This wasn't her first time mending her own broken bones, but gods, was it an unpleasant experience!

I'll go ahead and add my part, stick it wherever it belongs
One moment, they were all walking through the forest, the next, Harivaldr had a pair of large wooden thorns sticking out of him. He felt something in this throat, coughed, and watched as a small cloud of bloody phlegm flew from his mouth. That's not good,he thought. They had both pierced his leather chest piece, which, luckily for him, had slowed the twin spars enough that they hadn't gone too deep. It hurt to breath, so it was fair to say that one of them was poking a lung, and the throbbing in his gut made it painfully obvious where the second had stabbed him. He grimaced and pulled on the one poking his lung, followed swiftly by the one in his gut, and was rewarded with twin sickening sensations and sounds. He spat out a healing word ("Lækna!") and gasped as the magic knit the small hole in his chest closed.
Healing: 5
Straightening back up, Harivaldr couldn't help but snort as he caught Sen's punny repartee. Not to be undone, he shouted, "Ha! If bolts do no good, just let me within striking distance of any one of these sons of birches, and we'll have no shortage of firewood or toothpicks! Now watch yourselves, and holler if you need aid!" With that, Harivaldr drew his shiny new longsword, and began to advance towards the nearest tree-thing, ready to dodge any more incoming thorns.

The party walks into an ambush that catches most of them by surprise. Tree shaped figures launch a massive dart attack from behind some fallen trees. Durven takes a thorn in the leg before he can go prone. Sen takes a thorn in the side and attempts to break it off so it won't impeded his movement. He also goes prone so that he will be a smaller target. Both Durven and Sen return fire while the rest of the party cope with getting shot and being attacked. Sen and Durven consolidate their attacks on a single target and hit him 3 times which seemed to be enough to take it out of the fight.
Sen fires at the enemy on the opposite shore. One shot misses, possibly because of the thorn that is broken off inside his body. He compensates enough for the second shot so that it strikes true.
Durven continues to fire at the Wortling next to the one he and Sen just dropped. (On Durven's side of the stream.) Attack: 24 Attack: 13 Damage 8 Damage 5
Hari, Merric and Dathrya each take damage from the attacks of the Wortlings. Hari grimaces and makes a brave show of it. He casts healing word on himself and musters up some dwarven gumption and charges to within 10 ft of the nearest tree creature. (The same one that Durven is firing at.)
Merric takes a thorn and does his best to hide behind Sen and fire his crossbow at same target as Sen across the stream. He hits with his sneak attack and inflicts enough damage to finish off a second Wortling. There are two left. One on each side of the stream. The Wortlings let out a wooden roar and hurl darts at the prone figures of Durven and Sen, the most apparent threats.
Wortling Attacks Sen 10 Damage 8
Wortling Attacks Sen 13 Damage 7
Wortling Attacks Durven 13 Damage 8
Wortling Attacks Durven 15 Damage 3
Dathyra manages to go prone, painfully and slowly. She gathers herself for a moment and calls upon the divine power to heal everyone in the party.
((Feel free to post your actions.. I will paste the initiative order here so you know whether you are likely to go at the beginning or ending. There are two left and they are wounded. ))
Only moments after pulling the dart from his chest, Merric hears Dathyra babble something incoherently and then feels a pleasant warmth pass through his body - the sharp pain in his chest caused by the dart dulls and is almost immediately forgotten.
He flashes a grin of thanks in Dathyra's direction and then nocks his bow, carefully waiting for an opportunity to catch the strange creature being rushed by Hari off guard, using the potential combat as a distraction for that perfect shot...
Readied action....as soon as Hari engages the creature, Merric will use the distraction to get a sneak attack in.
With his blade in his hands, both Dathyra's and his own magic mended his wounds, and two of the strange creatures already dead, Harivaldr closed the distance between himself and the thing on his side of the stream and brought his longsword to bear.

The pain in her leg reduced to only a dull throb, Dathyra could now focus on the enemies they were facing. Hari and Merric were making good work on the one still standing on their edge of the stream, but there were still a couple others on the other side of the stream that would come closer if left unchecked. She rolled onto her stomach, glad that the chill of the snow helped numb her still-healing wound, loaded a crossbow bolt, and took aim.

Merric, not wanting to risk getting his boots wet, moves over the tree creatures that fell on this side of the stream. He stows his bow and draws a short sword and dagger as he approaches. He take a close look at the creatures, as well any trail they created getting to their current location. Pouches (are they even wearing clothing?), sacks, anything? Also trying to stay alert for anything that may still be lurking in the nearby treeline.
With the last of them felled, Dathyra stood up. It was easier this time, mainly due to the healing spell. Technically, she would have been better off with a few days rest to ensure the mended wounds healed fully, but they did not have that kind of time. She could certainly manage with what she had.
"Tree-creatures of some kind," she said, answering Durven's question.
She bent down to get a closer look. Trees didn't just get up and walk on their own, and she was curious as to how they were given sentience.

Harivaldr stared down at the tree-ish thing he and Merric just took down. It had been moving, and walked upright like a man just a second ago, before he'd taken it down. It was a plant however, kind of like...
"Anyone else reminded of that ugly thing in the barn?"
The dwarven skald knelt down to get a closer look, trying to find anything it had in common with the barn monster.
The thorns Hari and Dathyra pull out of his side looks just like the ones found in the barn. The tracks are similar as well. There are tracks leading away from the ambush site, down and around, just obscured by the bend of the stream, into what looks like a very small valley.
Sen will take up a position and scan the tree line crossbow drawn making sure everything has come to an end. He will then hang his crossbow on his belt and pull the thorns from himself, tossing them to the ground. "Mighty fine healing there Dathyra. Mighty fine." Sen looks over the wound that has begun to heal up a bit from the magic. "Well, it's fair to say that something else other than orcs is responsible for this. We must be close to something if these creatures are nearby."
"All rights then...we's set to be movin' on or anyone's be needing a rest still?"
Returning his melee weapons to their sheaths, Merric once again pulls his bow and is ready to move onwards...right behind Hari! "Leads the way me path makin' dwarf. I be owing you fer yer effort no doubts about that..."
Merric yells out "What's are these things?!? Whadda we do to best em'?"
