 Sarge nocs back an arrow, and lets it fly toward the Ankheg that has John grappled.

”Aye, not today, lad!” He yells as he lets the first arrow fly through the air before shooting the next one.

Kora, you are up! Ankheg 1 is damaged but not broken. Ankheg 2 is at full strength, but doesn’t have a tasty Johnathan in its mouth. What would you like to do?

Kora

To Kora, “Defensive positions” means lightly armored to the back, heavy to the front to engage in defensive melee blocking, and allow ranged fighters to attack freely. But then John went and got snapped up by the pincers. :)

“Ho, Mustard, step up boy!” She steers Mustard up towards the front, drawing her longsword and dismounting just behind Sarge. Trusting Mustard to get out of the way, she leaves him and advances past the front line towards the ankheg grappling John, and strikes at it with a two-handed swipe of her sword, grunting and bringing the sword around again for a second strike!

Actions
Mustard Moves up to the front (to 10’ from ankhegs)
Kora draws her longsword (free object interaction) and dismounts (15’ Move)
Mustard turns and moves away from the ankhegs (rest of 60’ Move, Disengaging if he needs to)
Kora Moves within range of the ankheg holding John, and Attacks
Kora uses Action Surge to take a second Attack action

Two-handed longsword attack: 16 to hit, for 10 of slashing damage
Second two-handed longsword attack: 15 to hit, for 8 of slashing damage

Percival steers Carrhae towards John and Kora. Once he arrives there, he'll burn half his movement to dismount, command her to Disengage as she gets away and then attacks the Ankheg holding John with his rapier.

Attack: 23 Damage: 8

Both hit, the Ankheg lays dead and it disposed of the half-elf inside its mandibles. It had no choice to do so in its death. 

John falls to the ground onto a random potion vial that fell out of the Ankheg’s mouth, it bursts open when he falls on it. His wounds are covered and it seems to be healing him fully. He hears the words on the wind say, “Tashtiki, malak garnuk-ki.” Druidic for the phrase “Mistakes were made.”

”Yes, Kora!” You hear Sarge yelling as you strike down the large burrowing monster. 

((OOG I made a ruling mistake, but Mingo pointed it out to me and dang...I think Ive been doing mounted combat wrong for a long time. So long in fact I just got off the phone with our Friday night DM and he realized we’re all doing it wrong. Lol thanks Mingo, sorry Bobo. On your next turn you can mount Midnight as a free action. ☺️))

The Ankheg burrows under the ground. The ground trembles. But then you feel nothing.

Isuzu, you’re up.

Isuzu

With the last Ankheg seemingly fled... gone to ground (or under it), Isuzu regroups with the others and helps however she is able.

Percival takes a moment to catch his breath and get back on his horse. "Our first taste of combat. I don't think that anyone was expecting Ankhegs, but still, it was exciting while it lasted. Sorry Isuzu, it seems that the last one fled before you could do anything. Perhaps you'll get a shot next time." 

"We shall eat well tonight! They say these are like giant land shrimp!"

Kora

Not quite ready to call it gone, Kora draws her short sword, too, and stands ready to attack should the ankheg return, head turning to take in the area. "Sarge!? LT? Secure or scramble?"

Kashkaval

Standing up in his saddle to get a better view of the battlefield, he relaxes a bit once he sees Johnathon safe.  When the second creature disappears below ground he will ready his action for the beast to reappear.

Percival readies his rapier for when the Ankheg returns. "I think I'll pass up that offer of eating Ankheg, Kashkaval."
