Johnothon sighs. Basically, they’re Druid terrorists. They seek to eliminate all other Magics that they deem Unnatural, so it’s good that we didn’t bring our Minotaur friend. If we run into them, he might just’ve been their next victim. They’re also mostly made of shifters, and don’t use weapons or anything of the sort. I sort of respect them for their respect of nature, much less their methods however.
Whats strange, however, is they don’t usually kill people. They also collect trophies, so keep an eye out for anything that belongs to Isuzu.
He strokes Midnight’s head. If they don’t usually kill, what led them to kill Isuzu? I wish I had a spell to understand people as well as I do animals, that way we might know what led them to their fate.
"That's very helpful. Thank you." LT stops digging and looks at Kash in his eyes for a moment. As much as a gnome can stare at a minotaur's eyes. "You know what my father told me when I was young? It's ironic that I think about it right now, at this moment..."

Sylrie patted Aurala's Pride, more to sooth himself than the horse, "Sarge, we are going after them right? To avenge Isuzu, and to free these lands of their terrorist ways?"

Kash squats down in front of the LT, leans in close, and says "everything is better with cheese......." and his mage hand holds up some slices of cheese for her, and smiles.
She takes a slice of cheese and smiles, "Well, if only he had your wisdom. Wise as he was, he was very much a gnome of this world that we live in. He was a soldier just like us, but he saw it all. Or, he seemed like he had. I asked him when I was young about why he was always gone. You see, I didn't understand the War then. I am not sure I understand it now, but back then it just was. Da and Ma were always gone. Ma was a field medic and was always at the hospital. But Da said to me 'It's not for me to decide where I be, girl. But I need to be there.'"
She pulls out a tinder box and puts it next to the fire pit. "Every time I would ask him, he would tell me the same thing. It took me years to understand what he meant. But right now, this is where we need to be. Aundair decided we were the best choice." She eats her slice of cheese, nibbling the sides of it.
"I'm so angry right now. I am mad at those druids who attacked us. I am mad at myself for not being more aware. I am mad at Aundair for sending us here, just to lose someone so needlessly. I am just... we will make this right. We will help the people of the Reaches and we will do what the Queen has asked of us. Which is our duty. Death is lighter than a feather, duty is heavier than a mountain. The mountains now rest on our shoulders."

'The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.' so we must not worry about them - we must make sure that we are ready when they do come. Every one of us knew the risks coming here, let us not let Isuzu's loss stop us from our mission."
Sylrie nodded to the Sarge's response. He then fell in line with him as they progressed forward. He looked to Johnathan though, he had expressed something before that had been ticking around inside his mind, a comment made about him respecting their respect of nature. It shouldn't surprise him, but all the same he wondered what had drawn someone with such a deep respect for nature into the military.
Sylrie pulled some seeds from a belt pouch and began chewing them, "Johnathan, may I ask you a question?"
Kora stands apart, at her self-appointed watch duty, staring down the road after the three who went to retrieve Isuzu. She is wrestling with something inside.
(This is an Insight roll, not as a pvp contest, but to see if she can bring herself to understand Percival's actions. Purely role-playing with a little randomness: 5) ...I'm gonna guess that's a no.
She turns at one point to scan the group, and stares hard daggers at Percival, but turns back to watch the horizon stonily.
She starts, apparently not all that focused on her "watch." Then she glances over her shoulder and shakes her head ruefully. "I never did quite... connect, with Isuzu, but she was my... our responsibility, as much as we were hers. Percival... I know he regrets haring off to be the hero, he said as much with feeling. But Sarge just swept it away like it was no more than a yeoman mistake on the training ground!" She pauses, staring off, eyes glowing. "I am finding it hard to be as... forgiving."

"What brought you to the Military? Please take no offense, but you said you respected those things..." Sylrie nodded further down the road as if he still expected the Archdruids to be there, "...reverence for Nature, and I've seen how you are with the horses and such. The military seems like an odd place for someone who would want to maintain nature. A lot of times a camp or fortification will destroy large swaths of natural resources to build protection. Not to mention the cities the military itself protects"
Simple. Even though we protect those who may destroy nature, we also fight those who destroy nature. For example, those Archdruids. How do you think the land reacted to all the fire they made? Or the edited bloodhawks, how do you think predators and prey will react? Even if we serve by destroying nature now and then, we can help by stopping those who destroy it more. John pauses to look around. And, I’m not like those Ashbound. Even if we were to disregard civilization completely, and tear down every city, you’d just rebuild it again. That is in people’s nature, and therefore I hold no grudge when we replace nature for less nature naturally.
"We all knew going in to this mission that it was going to be dangerous and that some of us may not return to Aundair. Percival did nothing different than any of the rest of us would had our dice rolls been higher. A wise gnome once told me 'It is not for us to decide where we need to be, we just need to be there' Misq and the boys will be back soon enough with Isuzu's remains so that we may properly pay her homage, then we shall ride forth and finish our mission, for Isuzu and because Aundair dares!"
Kora shakes the minotaur's hand off her shoulder. "That's just it, Kash! I would not have. I would have waited for orders. We're not sellswords or adventurers, we're soldi—" at this she notices she's being loud, and they have a cover to keep.
She goes on more quietly, "We're soldiers. Once he took off, I felt I had no choice, and I still checked with the LT." She softens her stance a little bit, shoulders sagging just a touch, her eyes fading to normal.
"Instinct will get us killed, Kash." She looks down, at nothing. "That's why the army has commanders. Because we are better as a whole than as individuals. The names that glow on the Nieber Sandstone, they died heroes not because they were brave, not because they won battles, but because they served."
The anger gone, she looks up into his big liquid eyes. "I'm worried we'll forget that out here."
"I understand - but here we're not supposed to be an organized military unit, we are supposed to be mercenaries and should start acting the part. We have no way of knowing who is watching us or when...and not being predictable sometimes is a good thing....." and he'll point at his Chaos tattoo and smile at her.
She does smile a little at the memories of getting his tattoo. "But you're wrong, Kashkaval. We need to act the part, but not so much it gets us killed. In a pitched battle, being unpredictable can save your life, and we'll be fighting as irregulars, not in formation, so all the more. But fighting together, 'fingers on the commanders arm,' is what they drilled into us, right? That is how we survive on any field, even out here."
She glances over at Percival again, maybe a little guiltily? "I know Percival did what he did out of the best of reasons, and I'd have him at my back any day. Today. I... I just wish the LT had made this point. I should go talk to him."
And without further preamble, she pivots, pats Kash on the shoulder and walks purposefully over to Percival.
"Percy?" she starts.
