The gear is a common symbol of Gond, who is the god of artifice, craft, and construction. He is revered by blacksmiths, woodworkers, engineers, and inventors. Anyone who is crafting something might say a prayer to Gond to guide the work, but folk know that Gond smiles most brightly upon new inventions that others find useful.

" Thats um....whatshisface....the Artificer God...Bond? Gond! Thats the symbol of Gond!"
" Which kind of makes sense if an animated puppet of some sort was up there..."
Selinae seemed rather chuffed at remembering this.
"Yes, he was a woodworker, Phae, and a damned good one from what we could tell from his inventory. But how does he tie into this? We searched his shop, top-to-bottom and gave him a bit of grilling to boot. We found nothing and the guy looks like an upstanding citizen from all we could tell.
I'm more curious about this Mrs. Hornraven. Why was this puppet, or whatever it was, on her roof. Is she a worshipper of this Gond? And how does the puppet, or Mrs. Hornraven, relate to the dead gnome at the centre of that explosion? And what does any of this have to do with us, if anything?
From what that mage said, he's going to come in here soon to question us. I say that we give as good as we get, and see if we can't squeeze him for more info on what the watch knows. Then maybe go give this Hornraven lady a visit... but then again, my plans have been somewhat amiss of late, so in all likelihood we should probably do the opposite of whatever I say."
Vassa sits down to a cold cup of coffee, his third for the morning.

Shaking his head in mock sadness at having gifted the priestess a free 'point', Vassa looks up to wink at the priestess with an unrepentant grin before saying,'
"Dearest, Phae. Surely by now you have noticed that facts are fluid things to actors and that it is the creative interpretation of the material at hand that really matters in conjuring forth the true spirit of an act? What matters is that Mrs. Hornraven may know something more and that nearby roofs are being used as a thoroughfare by mysterious figures pertinant to this investigation! I think Kes had the right of it - once the watch is no longer... err, watching, let us take to the rooftops to see if this wooden person is a real boy or just another religious prosthelytizer dropping god flyers about the neighbourhood..."
His hand resting upon something at his belt, Vassa suddenly stops speaking to slowly turn to face Sel. Pausing for a moment as though in thought, the bard eventually asks the towering woman,
"Ahh, Sel. What god did you say that symbol belongs to? Gond? Why did you and Phae say that the connection between this Gond and a puppet person makes sense?"

" Gond is the patron of artificers and tinkerers...the false person must have been built by such a person. Maybe the temple of Gond would know someone who specialises in constructing such automatons."
"Artificers and tinkerers, you say? Hmm... this sounds like a promising lead as well. Maybe after the watch has questioned us, some or all of us should go speak to these Gondites. Gonderers? Gondorians? Sorry, Phae... what are the grammatical rules for referring to a bunch of god-botherers?"
Vassa nods his head in thanks to Sel and smiles disarmingly at Phae when he makes his quip, but he looks mildly distracted to a keen eye and his hand continues to fondle something near his hip.

"And Gond's temple is a marvelous place!" says Renaer as he walking into the taproom. "I highly recommend visiting. Now, why are you all talking about Gond and, more importantly, is everyone here ok? I came as soon as I heard about the explosion."
"Raener! Good to see you. Thanks for the tip. We're all unhurt, though, well, some of us might be having unsettled dreams for a while due to that nightmare out on the street. Good of you to come by to check on us.

Raener makes eye contact with each of the newbies and bows his head in greeting and then find's a seat to the side so that he can take in everyone while talking. "I am so glad to hear that everyone is ok. Can you confirm if there was a gnome in or near the blast? What about Zhents?"
Raener takes a deep breath and then looks back to the group. "Most of you know that this whole war between Xanathar and Zhentarim has been over a large amount of gold that my father embezzled and hid when he was the Open Lord of Waterdeep.
When the Lords of Waterdeep ousted my father, I thought his long, dark shadow was finally gone for good. The truth is, I want nothing to do with him. But his spies hound me. One of them, a gnome named Dalakhar, had been watching me for months. Then, about two tendays ago, the spy was suddenly nowhere to be seen. My father didn’t trust many people, but he trusted that gnome.
I spoke to a few of Dalakhar’s friends. Apparently, he was on a special mission to retrieve the Stone of Golorr and was afraid that the Zhentarim and the Xanathar Guild were close to catching him. When he heard about my kidnapping, he paid me a visit. He wanted more information about the adventurers who had rescued me. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think Dalakhar was on his way here to offer you the job of delivering the Stone of Golorr to my father in Neverwinter.
If I'm right, that means someone else has the stone now. Which means they're a big step closer to finding the treasure. I shutter to think what the Zents or the thieves guild will do with the money. And to make matters worse, rumor has it that there are other groups also looking for this gold. We need to find it first. It rightfully belongs to the city.
Selinae absorbed the story, learning more than she really wanted to know.
" So theres treasure....and a stone...and your nobility...and theres a gang war, wait, I knew about the gang war....so we need to find that puppet ASAP."
"It is nice to meet you, but if you excuse me, I need some time to meditate" Elon says coldly as he stands. He gives a soft smile to Selinae and the others, then walks to a back room.
