At the temple, Gash tries to pull on of the helpful women of Tymora away and show them an amulet.
“Could you take a look at this with me? I think it’s controlling the mother. It’s what’s convinced her the warlock is the best choice to send her daughter. I was wondering if you could dispel it somehow. It’s some sort of necromancy enchantment.”
"I'm sorry," says one of the sisters. "Mother Gyllis has retired for the evening. She will be preparing her service for Tymora's Gift three days hence. Is it urgent?"
"If she cannot see me now then so be it, thank you sister for your hospitality and kindness toward the child." Gash leaves the room and will seek a place to bed down but instead of sleep he will study his magics.

The sisters do not seem to comprehend the trials and tribulations that the party has faced but they do understand two things: The first is that they have a revered child in their temple and the second is that the adventurers are distraught by their experiences in trying to protect her. They offer the group sanctuary in the temple for the night. Neventi, however, insists on taking her daughter back to the inn. She refuses all offers of protection or companionship at the inn, much to the consternation of several in the party.
"Take refuge here," she says. "We will be safe at the inn. It is considered neutral ground and the bargain the Heavens and Hells have struck demands no further interference now that my daughter is returned to me."
Night falls and worry or distraction grips each in the party as they try to come to terms with what to do next. Gash and Dog find a corner to discuss what Gash has uncovered with his detect magic spell. Before they can dive into the details, Stones approaches them.
"I think I might go with Keyrie in the morning," he says.
Confusion echoes back at the bard. "She didn't tell you?" he says in surprise. "She is going to try and retrieve the horses we left by the road. It is tearing her up inside that they have been left alone for almost three days. She wants to find them. Or at least what happened to them. I....I think I need to help her."
Looking back at the bard, both Gash and Dog are searching for what to say when raised voices echo through the temple. Tock investigates, finding a patron of the temple insistently asking questions of one of the sisters. She is doing her best to hold him at bay but the urgency of his speech is making him difficult to understand. Tock relays to to the others snatches of the conversation he heard.
"...to speak with them....dangerous...Gregory or...spine....divine message..."
The man pushes past the sister indelicately as Gash approaches. He is not quiet so the others in the party can clearly hear the man as he draws closer. "Yes! Gregory," he says, striding forward with a feverish excitement in his eyes. "You are..." he pauses as he takes in Gash. "You are a goblin. I...I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting that. I was going to say that you are still here. You must not leave Masa! Not yet."
The man composes himself and then continues. "I have ridden for two days to get to Masa with a message for you. Tymora herself sent a herald to me. My divine task was to find you, or Doggear Brakespine, or Tock, or...well, it matters not all the names. You are here still."
Gash's blank stare prompts the man to continue. "Yes, anyways, Tymora chose me because she is no longer allowed to contact you herself. Did you displease her? It seems like she could still visit you then."
Several of the sisters begin to gather around the man but do not interfere with his babbling. "You must keep the child and her mother in Masa. Do not let her lead you away from the city yet." The man looks wildly from Gash to the sisters and back with a huge grin on his face. "I have no idea what that means. You must discover the nature of the Accords, she said. The herald, that is. What are the Accords? Oh, I suppose you don't know yet either. Your divine task," the man says with some stage presence now, counting dramatically on his fingers "is to discover three things. One: What do the Heavens and the Hells have at stake in the bargain? Two: What are the rules of the bargain for each side? Three: What of the protectors of the child?"
He drops his hands as if expecting applause or raucous pats on his back in congratulations. "Oh!" he says at everyone's blank stares. "One more thing: Seek out the representatives of the Heavens, the Hells, and the Arbitrator of the Accords for your answers. Once you know the full scope of the bargain that was struck, you can depart Masa. Hopefully you will then know what to do."
He grins stupidly at Gash, breathing heavily from his long-winded message. "I was worried I would forget some of it, but I remembered everything!"
“Sisters do you know this man? Surely, you all should know a messenger of Tymora. I don’t know what I could have done to upset the heavens. So far in this city we’ve had devils and a Minotaur try and do away with and deceive us. I am concerned with what’s going on this city... who holds the Accords? Can they offer us all protection? I have much business to do before we bring the mother and child before anyone. Now what was your name again?”

“Sisters do you know this man? Surely, you all should know a messenger of Tymora."
The Sisters of Tymora shake their heads, murmuring among themselves. "Oh!" says the messenger. "Of course! Let me show you! How could I forget to show you? It is so incredible..."
The man unbuttons his shirt and reveals a glowing symbol of Tymora emblazoned on his skin. The sisters gasp and one of the older ones casts detect magic. Her eyes glow white as she examines the holy brand on the man's upper left chest.
"This is divine magic," she says. "I believe him."
"I don’t know what I could have done to upset the heavens."
"Oh, maybe you didn't," says the messenger as he buttons his shirt up again. "I have no clue why Tymora sent me instead of talking to you directly. That's all."
“...who holds the Accords? Can they offer us all protection?"
The messenger laughs a little manically at the question. "I have no idea!" he says, grinning widely. "My guess is that Tymora is entrusting you to figure that out! Put faith in her wisdom, Gregory!"
"Oh, oh! Of course. I'm so terribly sorry," says the man, flustered at his error. "I am Molas of Herda. I am a cobbler and faithful servant of Tymora."
He looks distractedly at the sisters. "Have you any food? I have not eaten in almost a day and I have slept only 2 hours since I left Herda. Perhaps you have a place for me to rest my eyes?"
The man staggers slightly and the sisters catch him, bringing him gently to sit on the floor.
Dog just about rolls his eyes back into his head when Stones tells him about Keyrie's plans for the horses, but then bolts up when the shouts reach earshot.
As they move toward the sound, he'll say quietly to Gash, "so you really need to, as soon as possible, try to dispel the magic in Nev's amulet. In my humble opinion. Thank you for your spellbook by the way. I've really made a breakthrough and I'd love to try my hand at actually using what you've taught me. I've also been working on some things of my own that might be a fun surprise. For instance, did you know I can do some similar things with earth that you can do with water? Later. Let's find out what this man wants."
He listens quietly to the man's outburst, with confused, narrowed eyes. He's glad that Gash posed some good questions. After the man answers again, and almost swoons, he interjects.
"What did the herald of Tymora look like?," he asks Molas, gently gripping the man's shoulder. "Can you describe her to these wise sisters here? They should be able to tell us more about who spoke to you. And thank you for coming to see us. You are correct that it has been hard to contact the heavens of late."
He turns to the sisters. "Is there anything we can do to reach a representative of the heavens? Who can we talk to for advice? Is there another temple that concerns itself more with these matters than Tymora's?"
To the rest of the group, he says, "So we need to find out what the Accords are, what the rules are, and what it means for us. Those are things we've been trying to find out since we got here, so I'm happy to do Tymora's bidding. First, though, let's go to Nev and Genny. I think we might be able to get some answers if we... help Nev with a problem she's having." He looks at Gash meaningfully.
Gash is pleased to hear that Dog is getting some mileage out of A Children's Guide to Cool Conjuring and making it his own. He also smiles at Dogs reveal of his ability to bend earth at his will. But when he gets that final look from Dog he says, "I've been working on something to. It wasn't something I had been planning on but this is more important. I was nearly up all night figuring it out. We should go as soon as possible. Stones and Keyrie, I wish you a quick return. We should see Nev now."

One of the sisters takes charge, ordering the others to gather food and prepare a cot. "If you doubt his authenticity, we will give you a full report in the morning. We will determine the merits of his claims, although I suspect they are authentic. Mother Gyllis will be delighted to hear of a genuine case of divine visitation."
He turns to the sisters. "Is there anything we can do to reach a representative of the heavens? Who can we talk to for advice? Is there another temple that concerns itself more with these matters than Tymora's?"
The sister in charge shakes her head. "We had no dealings with any divine beings in Masa. We heard rumors... But, well, we are merely a temple devoted to Tymora. We are not ourselves divine."
(Feel free to flash forward to the next day, if you like, or I can have the sisters or messenger answer more questions.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Happy to move along to Nev and shops! Also want a chance to ask around for the new elements of the quest.)
Dog would like to make a religion check to see what he knows about the heavens, their representatives, and the relationship between specific gods and "the heavens." Are the unicorns and angels we've dealt with before affiliated with a specific god or goddess? How does all of this work? I sort of assumed Tymora was one of the main elements of the pantheon, but obviously there's more to it, and because it's becoming more of an intellectual challenge for what we need to do now, if we're following what the herald said, we should probably understand what we can.
