Dog continues forward flying just about 5 feet above the ridge and beginning to arc up toward the trolls (think he can get level with them on a north-south plane, and moving north a couple squares along the path -- he'll aim to get behind the trolls next turn by going almost directly north). Just as he clears the tree, he unleashes most of the power of the wand with four charges (6 darts) erupting from the tip, and three going to Aucasia and three going to troll 2. "Got any defenses, warlock? Come on..."he mutters. As he gets closer to the guards, he shouts, "we're here with the mother and child, at the invitation of the king!"

Well, Tock moves a bit closer and shoots off his wand of wonder somewhere in the middle of the triangle of Aucasia, the monstrosity and the trolls: 67
An animal appears in the unoccupied space nearest the target. The animal isn't under your control and acts as it normally would. Roll a d100 to determine which animal appears. On a 01–25, a rhinoceros appears; on a 26–50, an elephant appears; and on a 51–100, a rat appears.
(I keep hoping for a fireball, but nope.. it's a full 10% chance even! Slow is 5%, Faerie Fire is 5%, Stinking Cloud is 5%, Lightning Bolt is 10%, petrification is 3%... so a lot of actually helpful stuff. But.. as the parties get more mixed up then I'll switch back to the crossbow)

A poor little rat appears but is thankfully protected by the tall grass, until...Gash dispels the magic that temporarily grew the grass and it shrinks back into the snow (nobody has cover from the grass now, including the rat). The rat scurries through the snow to find cover under a tree.
Ice Troll 2 sidles around Althus to flank him, swinging his claws and trying to bite Althus around his armor.

They have to jump to nip at Dog.

He then slides away into a bush while his duplicate stays in place and hides (stealth check: 15), switches to his case of enchanted bolts and takes aim at Aucasia:
