The other door opens into a private library. It is much smaller than the one downstairs but the books here are well cared for, some of the quite old. They are displayed more as a collection than a library. In fact, no seats can be found in this room at all. The only other doors Martin, Dog, Althus, and Bulwark can see are the locked double doors in front of Dog.
"Yes, so it seems, my friend,"Dog says, as Althus hefts his maul to the door. "She's in here with nothing but horrors. She needs us to make this right."
If it goes down, Dog will look in, and try to get in ahead of Althus. If it does not budge again, Dog will dart north and look around the corner, peeking both ways to see if there's another way in. He's still trying to get the taste of sick out of his mouth, and currently regrets not closing either door to the rooms with the bodies. He has not had a spare moment for another thought. It's been tunnel vision for a while.
DM: how long has it been since Dog cast protection from evil and good on himself? It lasts 10 minutes.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Althus' hammer cracks the door open slightly, although doesn't break it wide. In retaliation for slightly opening the door, a ward on the doors activates.
DEX(18) check or suffer 20 necrotic damage, half on a success: 4
Pain wracks Althus' body but he doesn't fall. He is clearly barely standing, however. Peering through the cracks in the door does not give a good view of the room. It is candle lit, like many of the rooms in this house. It appears to be large and dark.
Martin calls out “library!” and makes his way back to the group, turning the corner just in time to see Althus get wrecked by the ward. He’ll back up whoever goes in first with a twenty foot gap between, staying at the door if it’s a smaller room
Tock stabilizes his friend quickly and easily, then hides him propped up in an alley with a bottle in his hand. To all observers, he is convincingly an urchin passed out from his drink.
Meanwhile, Bulwark utterly destroys what remains of the door. Like Althus, the ward on the door lashes out at him.
DEX(18) save or take the full 27 necrotic damage, otherwise half: 18
Expecting the blast, the warforged steps back after his blow, taking only 13 points of damage.
Inside the room, a coffin lay on a raised platform 7 feet from the door. Candelabras and candles light the room dimly. Some large urns decorate the wall to the south. No other exits or windows line the room.
"She's not here, Althus - can you check down that hallway to the north? Or maybe take a rest? That looked like it really hurt."
Dog pats his friend on the shoulder and steps into the room, pouring a bit of holy water on his warhammer, and a bit more on the coffin. He knocks the lid off with his hammer, and raises the stake he'd roughly carved from the torch to strike whatever's inside, assuming it's something creepy or dangerous or misty. He will try to pour more holy water inside. Throw some silver coins in. He has no idea what he's doing.
(Like, honestly, if Dog could find garlic, he'd be eating it. He'd try to break a mirror. Just foolishly throwing any and all scraps of stories he's heard about vampires into a cauldron and hoping for the best.)
Althus clutches his chest, breathing heavily, face strained. He pushes into the room with Dog, "No... I can't leave. She's here, I need to stop the monster from getting her..."

Dog pushes open the coffin lid to reveal Garielle lying in repose. She is in her tattered clothes and looks battered and bruised.
Dog's attempt at trying to carve a torch did little more than turn it into a tattered and flimsy mess. So he raises his javelin to strike it through through the vampire's heart.
Dog Attack: 16 Damage: 7
Althus sees Garielle and also smells the overpowering scent of the undead on her. Still, he reaches to stop Dog's strike.
STR(24) check: Attack: 24 Damage: 0 (I didn't mean to do an attack. The first roll is the STR check.)
The war inside Althus is too much and he is unable to slow Dog's attack. The vampire explodes again into mist as the javelin strikes.
Martin will open the other door to check it then.

Dog plants his boot heel right in the center of the doors and tries to kick them in.

The door doesn't budge.
Althus rushes forward, pushing Dog aside.
"Stand aside! She's locked in there with some kind of monster! Garielle! Wait for me! I'll protect you!"
He hefts his maul, taking two swings at the doors.
Attack: 26 Damage: 7

Once it comes around to Tock again, he will take another shot :)
Sorry, Gash
Attack: 11 Damage: 10
Gash casts shield but it still takes him down.
Gash - Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen
Bulwark will follow his fellow maul-wielder in trying to break down the door.
Attack: 26 Damage: 22
Attack: 27 Damage: 19
So then Tock triest to stabilize Gash and hide him in a bush, then run back to the house.
Medicine checks, a few of them just in case: 10, 23, 22, 16
And I don't know what to roll for hiding him :)

Martin drops his pack and grabs one of his carpentry tools (maybe a sharp lathe would work?) to cut a torch into a stake quickly

(Torches are not made from solid wood, which is why it didn't work so well for Dog.)
OOC: Ah I see!
Can Dog try to splash holy water on the mist? Or what would happen if he tries to attack the mist with his warhammer?
