"Delmon, the poor people in this town are clearly living in fear of these Redbrands. We intervened after they were about to set upon our new companions... do any of them strike you as people who would have done anything to needlessly provoke the thugs we killed earlier?"
Leo looks determined, "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing... I will not let it triumph in this town."
You'll have a pint of my best ale, which is also my worst ale and my only ale, the dwarf responds sharply before trundling behind the bar and beginning to serve the drinks.
Ophirinn, the little halfling boy ran off to the south, but you didn't see which building, if any, he entered.
Leo, there are no other patrons at this hour; not surprising, given how early it is.
The dwarf returns with ale for Delmon and Leo. That's eight copper total. Are the rest of you drinking or buggering off? she asks pointedly.
"I'll get this one." Delmon says, as he places two silver on the table. He then turns back to Leo. "How long do we wait? And how long before we stop waiting and move on?" Delmon then places one mug nearer to Leo and pulls the other to himself. Instead of drinking it he just holds it tightly, knuckles turning white from the pressure he is holding the mug with. Clear as day that Delmon is a bit nervous and very worried. "It isn't worry of us killing innocents that is getting at me here, Leo. It is worry that upon the discovery of their friends' fates, the scouting red cloaks will slay any person, or persons, they run into at that moment. That is the blood I don't want to see. Because, even if indirectly, it is us who would have spilled it." He then lifts the mug to his lips and gulps down a generous amount.
"I will have a drink then" Ophirinn says holding out the 4 copper pieces. "We are here to prevent that, and waiting there would just put us at more of a disadvantage. That being said it's not going to be easy when they come"
"You misunderstood me Delmon... my point was that it is worth the risk to free this town from the Redbrand plight."
Leo takes a deep swig of his ale, "I agree with Ophirinn, we are here to prevent any more unnecessary deaths. As long as the Redbrands are aware that it was us responsible for thinning their numbers their anger should be directed at us first and foremost, right?"
Brom would be outside leaning against the wall to The Sleeping Giant, his arms crossed over his chest keeping watch and waiting, occasionally he would look up at the towns people and wave slightly.
Omnia, the dwarf scowls, but nods. She reaches below the counter and pulls out a filthy bottle and an equally filthy shot glass, which she fills with an unidentified liquid. 2 silver, she says flatly. You can smell it immediately, foul, and very very strong.
(The plan is to wait in the taphouse for Redbrands to come, is that right?)
Morning passes into noon, then into the afternoon. The dwarf is unhappy at the strangers sitting in her taphouse very slowly drinking their ale, but as she has little else to do, she puts up with you.
(You can choose to spend the time getting to know Leo and Delmon if you wish; everyone who is not waiting outside on watch can feel free to tell a little about themselves as they would normally in such a situation.)
(I'll wait for Brom's Perception check before advancing the story.)
"Oh I'm always on the road - frequently I travel between my family's estate in Helm's Hold and Neverwinter. Delmon here has assisted me on my last number of ventures, he helps me steer clear from... trouble."
Leo subconsciously puffs out his chest, "... as for where I studied? Well my dear lady, I had the pleasure of studying under Grand Master Kendon at the prestigious Neverwinter Academy."
Changing the subject swiftly, Leo continues, "What about yourself Omnia, how did you come to be in Phandalin?"
Brom, you notice the little halfling boy playing with his friends from time to time as the day goes on, but don't see anything special about it.
As the day reaches mid-afternoon, you find yourself getting bored and your attention wanders for a few seconds; when you look down the road, you see four men wearing red cloaks headed towards you, walking purposefully, though not yet apparently running or hostile. It seems they came down the path from the ruined manor, though you were not paying attention when they first appeared. They are about two hundred feet away, and will be on you in less than a minute.
Growing bored, Delmon lifts his mug only to remember he had finished his drink several minutes ago. "Ugh. How much longer do we wait before we move on? I thought this would be a great idea but.. I am growing sick of the waiting.." He looks over to the entrance door and back to his maul, leaning on the table in front of him.
Doing his best not to attract any attention, Brom ducks inside the taphouse, and lets you all know that the four Redbrands are approaching. Ambush time, he says bluntly, and waits for the others to suggest the details.
Nate has been remaining quiet and in the back like he always does as the party carves out the ambush plan. He is happy that Delmon and Leo have joined the party and recounts some of his upbringing in the bandit camps when he was younger. ".... and so these Redbrands remind me a lot of how the bandits were when they kept me captive. They killed my mother and kept me as a hostage slave for many years until I was able to escape and live in the wilderness with the animals. I feel these Redbrands are equally evil."
Nate lets the leaders of the party plan out the next strategy and he is 100% agreement with the ambush plan. He sees Brom come into the taphouse and gives a concentrated approving nod to Omnia. He then stands up and looks as though his body shape/form starts to be morphing into something...
OOC - Are there any other exits out of the tap house other than the front entrance?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nate actually will jump up from the table when Brom enters and look around to see if there is a hole big enough for a rat to fit through so he could potentially crawl out of the tap house in rat form.
Perception: 18
Or if it's Investigation: 5
If he finds a hole, he will immediately morph into a Rat and sneak through the hole to the outside of the tap house and attempt to get behind the Redbrands in rat form so they don't see him/notice him to get a jump/surprise on them. If he doesn't find a hole, he will stand and await instructions from the leaders.

The dwarf takes your money and serves Ophirinn a drink. She doesn't continue to speak with you, but works in silence, cleaning tables nearby.
Nate follows Ophirinn and also pays for an ale, sitting next to the dragonborn.
Brom would be outside leaning against the wall to The Sleeping Giant, his arms crossed over his chest keeping watch and waiting, occasionally he would look up at the towns people and wave slightly.
Bromduhr, Goliath Fighter.
Omnia eventually catches up with everyone "Barkeep do you have any whiskey or hard liquor?" She grabs a seat at the table with the others.
