At Rees' suggestion Arxius did follow Alten, finding him smashing everything in the pantry. She leans against the doorframe and watches him for a few moments. When he's done she stretches over to a shelf and knocks a small clay jar off it, letting it smash on the floor. "Did that help?"
[sorry for backtracking we can ignore if you'd prefer]
"It did not seem that he was going to speak to us either way," Arxius points out. "Who knows the extent of his ability. We could have captured him a thousand times over and he would simply keep slipping free. We are lucky he did not kill us in our sleep."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The goblin prison was bereft of anything, but skeletons, chains, and the cage. Trick's gear also does not turn up in the Goblin Pantry, nor the Practice Range. Perhaps the goblins keep their prisoners gear stowed beyond the areas you have explored thus far.
But, you do find Chatra's gear which includes: a lute, 3 other instruments of your choosing (since I have no idea which he had), an Entertainer's Pack, a dagger, leather armor, and 2 gold pieces.
Alten will Help Trick search for his stuff. While doing that, he will ask Trick and Corkey
Now that you are free what is next for the two of you?
"Well.. I was hoping I could come with you and help you get to the bottom of all this... It seems like my "twin" as you said back the shrine could be one of these Doppelgangers and I might need your help to remove it. It might also have more information you could use. So, how about it.. I help you.. You help me?"

But he didn't try to kill us. He only fought when attacked.
Yes. He conked Grom over the head, knocking him silly. But that's just foreplay to a Dwarf. If he wanted us dead, he didn't have to save me. He could have slit our throats during the watch.
And now we've lost the opportunity to gain knowledge that might be critical.

{Hey, Alten is a time traveler}
Well, I guess I've already agreed to try to assist the priestest of the shrine to Pellor. Torm commands his priests and paladins to render assistance to those who serve his allied brothers.
Obviously, I don't speak as leader of this group. We still have a job to do, so you will have to make your proposal to the group. I will lend my support, for whatever it is worth.

"He saved your life to keep up the charade. Whatever his goal was, we were merely clearing the path for him. Letting us die did not aid his cause. He betrayed us all this time."

You think so? I don't.
If his and my roles were reversed, it would be easy if I wanted him dead to fake the healing. Kneel beside his body, grab my symbol, mutter some words, but not put the necessary will into it. That will is all internal. You wouldn't know the difference. Grimace, frown, sorrowful voice "Sorry guys, I tried. Too much damage. He's gone."
Would he have betrayed us in the future? Who knows. I'm no fortune teller or soothsayer.

The real question is - did it seem like Talien was too eager to kill him? Like he didn't want Chatra to tell?

It doesn't look like your belongings are here. Here, take this shield and scimitar that I took off of dead goblins. It's better than nothing until we find your stuff.

"He made his intentions clear, taking the place of Grom," Arxius says. "We do not know which way things would have gone but this is how they are now. This journey was never going to be easy, and we were never going to be the only ones on such a quest. And we forget, I suppose, that we are really all strangers thrown together for a mutual purpose. Whatever he was we never knew him. If we want to get this done we need to act fast before this Iron Hand knows they no longer have someone in the hunt. We can question our actions later."

"You think Talien is involved?"
I honestly don't know. It's just strange. I've never seen anything like it, so I have no basis of knowing what its 'normal' is.
Guess we better get back to the "group" and move on.
The last line is delivered with a slightly bitter sounding tone. {and we probably need to end this flashback sequence unless you've got anything else to add}

"I guess Chatra won't mind if I borrow his instruments and dagger. Pounding on the floor like some kind of heathen. Unthinkable. I would appreciate if you didn't mention that to anyone I know. It's unseemly. As for what is next, I came to see the Grove. I still mean to. That is, if you would like the company."
If one of those instruments is a drum I will be thrilled beyond belief. Giddily thumping some soft beats.

Ignoring her until Alten has vented satisfactorily.
Everything is fine. It's awesome.
Just one tiny, minor, detail. Chatra can't tell us what we need to know with daggers and arrows sticking out of vital spots.
