Oh if it's next to the creature she's not going to touch them then.

You quietly creep up towards the table. Once you are within a few feet you hear soft breathing. The creature almost sounds as if it is purring in its sleep. You quietly move up another foot and are able to see around the edge of the table...
Your eyes grow wide as you take in the sight of the creature behind the table. It’s scales glisten And sparkle a pure white, like fresh fallen snow on a cold winters day. It has a long tail tucked under its chin, long ivory colored talons and spikes running from the top of its head down its back and a pair of large furled wings. Your heart starts to pound in your ears as you realize the creature before you albeit still in its infancy is a white dragon.
In looking at the map, there are the 4 rectangles in this room at the ordinlal points. You said the one to the west is the chest? And the one to the north is the table where the breathing is coming from?
I assume Arxius is coming up from the east side. Seeing her stow the bow, Alten relaxes a a bit.

Grom would approach the room and get as close in the door and pull out his spell book and ritual cast detect magic.
If you do this and combat kicks off are you going to keep casting it, or aid your companions? The spell takes 10 minutes to cast. , plus 10 more minutes since you're casting it as a ritual (so, 20 minutes total).
Unless you are house ruling something different, I think you're misreading the spell
Detect Magic 1st-level divination (ritual) Casting Time: 1 action Range: Self Components: V, S Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
The ritual casting would only take 10 minutes. The spell itself has a casting time of one action if you cast it using a spell slot. Granted, if combat kicks off, the difference between 10 and 20 minutes is not important.

I did misread that. My brain put the duration into the casting time, lol.
I just looked at the map where Fenris has put our tokens. Alten would move directly into the room towards the western wall and up some, so as not to be blocking up the doorway. Put Alten in the square between the chest and the center spike with his crossbow ready. Talien already declared that he moved into the room.
Alten would also motion for some of the others to enter to be ready in case there is trouble.

Sorry, rushed it this morning. I moved Alten, Rees (she said she followed you my bad), Meepo (he would have followed), and Corkie (she's listening to you), but Talien's last post says "Talien will draw his sword, but not move into the room at this point" and Grom said he's in the doorway.
If she makes this she's going to inch back, turn to Alten and say quietly; "Could you ask Meepo to join me? Nobody else."
Slightly panicked you start to back up to alert the others and slip on an unseen patch of ice. You fall forward like a ton of bricks and land hard as your face meets the frozen stone ground. The arrow you have knocked releases and shoots upwards into an old cow head mounted above the table on the northern wall. You groan and look forward. You are now only a few feet from the dragon and can feel its icy breath on your cheeks. The dragon blinks and reveals a pair of pale blue eyes. The iris' appear to be think slits, but widen as the dragon drinks in your form. In an instant the cat bolts upright and retreats further behind the table. Its movement is cat-like and graceful and it is quicker than any creature you have encountered before. The dragon hisses at you defensively and bares two rows of long, sharp white teeth.
Meepo hears the dragon's hiss, immediately recognizes it, and shouts in draconic, "Calcryx! Calcryx! Friends find you!"

Now that I caught up that's gonna happen lol
There’s still a chance for diplomacy! We’ll say you start casting it now and we’ll what happens.
Assuming Rees can see what's going on, she'll move up just a little to cover Arxius. "Meepo...can you come up here, please? Maybe speak to, uh, Calcryx? Let him know we're not here to hurt him?"
Arxius maintains eye contact with the dragon, her own eyes wide as she realises the harm she may have caused. "Meepo, come here quickly, everyone else should stay back."
She'll carefully push herself up into a kneeling position, her hands free and held in front of her to suggest she means no harm. Just as she did with Meepo.
Meepo bounces towards Arxius and Rees excitedly. He stops a few feet from the table and calls out in draconic, “Calcryx! Calcryx! Meepo bring Calcryx home now!”
The dragon hisses venomously at the sound of Meepo’s voice, but keeps her pale blue eyes trained on Arxius all the while. Meepo tries calming Calcryx again, “Cal-cryx want go home?”
Calcryx hisses louder at Meepo’s words, then surprisingly she speaks to Arxius in common...
”My home is not with this wingless lizard and its tribe! My home is in the mountains far away from this forsaken place that tries to trap my kind! Do you aid this lizard? Are you trying to capture me? I warn you it did not go well for the red lizards, nor the green skins that tried to lock me to that chain!”
"We're not in the business of trapping creatures," Rees says softly. "You're not a prisoner, not if I have anything to say about it anyway."
The dragon sniffs the air and makes a deep thrumming sound from somewhere in its chest as if in thought, “Hrrrrrmmm.... Wise. State your intentions then... I want to know why you are here disturbing my nap little nap. Is it my treasure you want!? I warn you... this little hoard is mine!”
"I am not trying to capture you," Arxius says gently. "I believed I was returning you to where you belonged, but if that is not the case then I will not-" she looks to Meepo briefly. "-Meepo, I cannot let you imprison this creature."
"No. I didn't even know you had a hoard. I mean," she smirks, "if you wanted to give us a reward for helping you I wouldn't say no.... but actually, we're looking for Trick's stuff. And a wand. And an apple? Oh, and two dwarves. And a hammer, I think? We're looking for a lot of things, I guess."
