Lif is pleased to have Jal show interest in brewing and provides him with the tools necessary to get started on a batch. Jal can acquire enough ginger for a batch from Fala the herbalist for one gold. Fala does recommend to Jal that if he wishes to scale up his operation from the homebrewing level that he seek out membership with the Vintner's, Distiller's and Brewer's Guild to avoid getting in trouble for moonshining.
Soar searches the house very, very throughly; it seems that it has been emptied out rather throughly, as she doesn't find anything of interest except rotting wood that should really be replaced. No sign of magic, and her divine sense reveals only Lif.
The people of the Alley are generally very receptive to the idea of the old tavern being fixed up. (Having a derelict haunted building in the neighborhood does nothing good for property values.) About reconstruction, he lists a number of people you will have to deal with in getting the place up and running, and estimates that to do it properly will cost at least one thousand gold, possibly as much as fifteen hundred.
"Tally" (full name Talisolvanar Fellbranch, which is a mouth full) doesn't generally deal in slates and chalk but does have one around that he is willing to part with for a gold piece.
Vincent Trench speaks concisely, dresses in a sharp suit, and smokes a slim pipe. Vincent welcomes Soar into his office; inside is a regal apartment dimly lit by flickering oil lamps. On her inquiry he states that he is at present capable of handling his current cases, but he will keep the adventurers of Trollskull Manor in mind if future cases prove difficult. He leaves Soar with a business card embossed with the design of a cat's eye.
(Wow, really nothing at all! Does she have a sense of what the turret was used for? And does this mean there's not a single book in the library? No photos/drawings on the walls? She'll take a look at the stock in the cellar, marveling that the stock didn't disappear the same way.)
Soar pays for the slate and chalk and thanks Tally, assuring them that she and her companions will likely be back with more things they'd like to purchase. She thanks Vincent for his consideration, and invites him to come by some time. "I have a feeling that Lif really loves a good mystery."
Returning to the manor, she gives the chalk and slate to Lif, and fills in her companions on what she learned. "So Tally said it could be $1,500 for us to actually fix up this place and get it operational. So Volo basically gave us a reward in the form of a money pit. Maybe he or Renaer or Floon can link us up with some people. We can do some minor stuff to make it habitable, but I'm thinking we'll have to go get some gold or some resources the old-fashioned way. The way normal people do. Tomorrow who wants to go to ANOTHER tavern, look at a bulletin board, and find a vague-but-potentially-profitable QUEST?!"
Soar is only about 10% kidding here. She looks around to see if anyone's biting. "What do we say? It'll give us something to do while we wait for the beer to ferment. Otherwise I'm completely open to ideas."
Still it's not bad to have a wine/ale cellar so Erik's a bit happy despite not finding secret rooms or doors to the underside of this city (he isn't interested in the Underdark with all those troubles). But he lack the money needed to fix up this place so there's only one solution for that. Erik walks up to the taproom.
"Nice place this'. But fixing it would be costly... Tomorrow I'm going to look for more quests like the one we just had. Should I look for something to do by myself or would you guys also be a part of that?" Erik looks hopefully around.
(ooc; I post once or twice per day so if some others also post that seldom (!) then we could team up and have a bit more slow going adventure just for us? What do you think of this Joan?) (rkmobius two minds one toght :) )
(The turret is a lookout spot, added after the violent events that gave Trollskull Alley it's name. If you're interested in Trollskull Alley's actually pretty involved history, you can read about it here.) Soar does find a rather burlesque painting of a tiefling woman hidden behind one of the empty bookcases; whether that is appropriate decor for the tavern you're setting up depends on it's tone, I suppose.
It is getting late; Lif writes "Last call?" on his new slate, and serves drinks as requested. You think it may be time to find Volo back at the Yawning Portal and discuss getting the deed signed over.
(Re: Xunsilver, I think that's a great idea and honestly this chapter of the adventure is well set up for that kind of thing; the party can easily split up to handle little side-quests that will be popping up here and there.)
Soar completely forgot about getting the deed signed over. (And you thought she was the organized, responsible one, didn't you!) She's up for finding Volo and doing that if others think it's a good idea.
(OOC: Soar would be up for fighting some things! I also can usually post fairly frequently thanks to mobile, so feel free to sort me into the lower or higher velocity party split if that's what you decide to do.)
(Which party I'm in depends. If we move this to Allenman's discord server I can join the high speed group, but if it stays on here, I have to go with the slow group.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ripi will before he goes try and do a small magic trick with his darts (Slight of hand: 24 )
Then he will go to the furniture maker "Hey Tally is it right, i was wondering if you got any sort'sa like really big crossbows, and any type of like trap sort of things, were movin into that place and i wanted to make sure it was safe for us." Ripi says

Tally is highly amused by the idea of a ballista mounted in a tavern. "I don't have anything like that so it would have to be custom made, and would be quite expensive, but if you provide the coin I believe it could be constructed in a tenday or two."
Jal goes to the apothecary shop and asks where he could register to the Brewer's guild. (After asking getting a reply from Soar and buying the ginger, if Soar accepts)

"Ah, well, the brewer's guild I believe is..." Fala rattles off some directions to where to find the main offices, you'll probably want to wait til you have some money for dues to apply for membership.
"How much would it happen to be, i dunno if i could pay for it right away but i know ill definitely be able to get it done somehow, and what do you have that could work as like some sort of alarm or trap system." Ripi says

"Ah, well, for alarms and traps I'm not an expert, you'd best see an ajurationist about getting wards placed if you're worried about security. A modestly sized ballista suitable for mounting inside or up on a turret would run you, lets say, five hundred gold dragons? And a waiver signed saying that I'm not responsible for any property damage or loss of life it may cause, of course."
((Apologies for lack of posts, I have had the flu this weekend))

Ignis wanders down from the second floor, covered in dust. “This sure is dusty!” “Then again it probably hasn’t been inhabited for a while.”
