Red bursts from the room, insulting the creature and causing it to whirl on the spot, attempting to force its head into the piles of ash around to block out the psychic attack. This gives Brozak enough time to roar and bring down his massive warhammer straight down on its still buried head with a satisfying crunch. The wings spread out in a jerk reaction and the thing hits the floor in a cloud of black dust - twitching slightly before going still.
[OoC]: Combat and initiative order is now over.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Therne knows that the venom glands on the tip of a cockatrice's beak usually cause petrification for up to 24 hours. Looking at this particular cockatrice and the bite wound on Adri's stony shoulder, she can guess that she'll be back to normal after 19 hours.

"Well, it's not permanent, that's the best news," Therne says. "I'm afraid to move her and break her. And I definitely don't want to explore the cellar without a cleric. Hmm..." She thinks for a minute, and then tries something. *Adri, can you hear me?* she calls telepathically.
You can speak telepathically to any creature within 30 feet of you. The creature understands you only if the two of you share a language. You can speak telepathically in this way to one creature at a time.
It doesn't specifically state that your target can reply to you, which it does on the message spell so gotta assume they cannot. Sorry!
I agree about the cellar, but I'd feel better knowing the floor we're on is clear, so we don't get attacked from behind orlooks up above again. Are cockatrices found in groups?
We should camp in this room tonight and not leave her alone. I hope this isn't insensitive, but our cleric looks quite heroic in that mace-swinging pose. We must tell her how crushing that last swing of hers was. ...keep the faith sister, you broke the rules and won....
Can we check the rest of the rooms, and perhaps start a more thorough search of them once clear, but come back here between each to check the safety of our Sister? And, the journal notes we've seen imply a cellar, but we haven't found evidence of one yet.

Abner describes what he read in the scraps of paper before the recent attack interrupted his search."The mirror is in the cellar, Redmane wrote, although I almost get the sense Redmane fled. He may be alive yet. Can anyone put this journal in the right order?"
"How do we find the cellar entrance?"
"Also - I'm not excited about sleeping in a haunted house. I vote for camping where we were last night. I bet we can drag Adri out if we work together."
When turned to stone, I don't think the 4 of us could move her. Four of Brother Brozak, maybe, but not he and us three. Second, how is a few feet from a haunted house better than a haunted house? And C, night is hours away. What shall we do for now? In the house or near it, I'd be happier if we finished our search, found where the cellar entrance was so we can watch or block it, made sure nothing else is lurking, et cetera. Maybe look up in the rafters. Maybe burn the twig blight patch.
Wait, sorry, I am panicking. Its the closed doors at our backs and the surprise attacks. It shouldn't take us long to search the house, and maybe we can assemble clues from the journal and elsewise. Maybe we can have a better idea whether it is important to move as well as find materials that might make it possible.
Can we continue clockwise through the house to start?

“I did hear a light scratching sound coming from upstairs, but it might have been the cockatrice — Brozak, did you see where it came from?” Therne asks. “You’re right, though, we should probably at least clear the rest of these two floors and locate the entrance to the cellar. My guess would be the kitchen.”
How steady does the beam look? Does it appear fire damaged? [OOC: How much does Abner weigh? Therne only weighs 38 pounds.]
"I saw nothing, but I heard it flapping down to attack Adri. I was looking in the room I had just opened, the one with the sword. I say we finish our sweep, find a relatively secure room, and settle in there. If we can move Adri in the room with us, that would be preferable. And I have no problem toasting the twig blights if we are worried about them from wherever they are.
"I can support the beam while you climb it, but I would rather wait until we were all up to full power, and Adri is able to heal anyone. I can patch someone up a little, but that much."
