Vimak grunts in greeting at the two women. "Hello," he says. "My name is Vimak Hellbringer Katho-Laga. While I wish we had met under different circumstances, what are your names? How have you found yourselves here?"
He will investigate the cell, looking specifically for weaknesses: rust on the bars and lock or crumbling spots on the walls, especially close to the bars: 18.
"What have you noticed about our captors? Any kindness in them? Do they have a routine?"
He will also look for the most comfortable unoccupied place in the cell.
Cirrus checks every possible avenue the collars could possibly be, and has deduces they are simply iron collars. Strong enough to hold the average person with no issue. No magic or enchantments could be felt, and so on. Though admittedly the iron was cold to the skin given the wintry conditions. The two boys, who have clearly been beaten several times over the last few days look up at Cirrus, one of them with a massive black eye. Listening a bit painfully to the words before one pipes up, then the other. As far as we know sir..... It's just been us. My names Nars.... I was travelling on the road with me family a week ago.. I think? They already fed.... he begins to break down into tears, and his voice starts to warble. they fed both me parents to that monster...... And made me watch.... at this point he's buried his face into his hands, and its clear his hands will be covered in snot and tears the next time they leave his face. and they're going to sell me as a slaave...! the human boy shaking now.
The other boy looks to Cirrus, pity on his gnomish face for the other boy, but much more calm and controlled, despite his visible injuries. Sorry about that sir.. He's been really shooked up. My Name is Carp Alderleaf. My father is the towns farmer. I... I went exploring out of curiosity b-but.. as you can see, I got caught.... My dads probably worried sick, likely askin every adventurer in town to find me.... I feel bad for him, and anyone he sends... Like him, we're all going to be sold into slavery, when they tire of beating us.. or .. in her case... he says, looking over to the woman in the other cell She... has suffered worse... than we. Perking up slightly, having someone to talk to, he then asks So.. What are you in for?
Bastille looks around, realizing her staff had indeed been stolen, as anything that looked like a weapon had been taken from the party. Telling Cirrus as much.
In the other cell, as Vimak grunts, the woman, flinches, and shrinks into the corner. But after a moment, realizing he isn't a redbrand, she would say in a quiet, quaking voice .......I....I'm Mirna... Mirna Drendar.... My husband.... Nels... had chosen to defy the redbrands.... and he was killed and.. we were told he was fed to that ... monster..... Vimak has a memory flashback of a half-eaten corpse that someone's foot had brushed against, but everyone had chosen to ignore at the time. T-t-then a few days later.... they broke into our house while I was mourning... and ... took me here..... They've been ... 'training' me she shrinks even farther into her corner training me to be a good slave.... muffled and choked cries could be heard as she curled up defensively. They've.... destroyed her sir... body and soul... the fact she can still speak normally at all is a miracle. My name is ... Nilsa. I am the boy over there's sister. They fed our parents to that one eyes creature, making us both watch until it was 'done' I should be crying... but.. I feel nothing.... But I know I should... But I haven't been able to cry.. knowing what this woman has suffered, and what my brother is going through... maybe I just.. can't... There's a few of the redbrands who are... nice... but most of them are just pure evil.
Throughout this, Vimak is looking at the bars, and other such things, and finds the joins on his cell aren't as perfect as they could be but are by no means weak.
(To break your collar off the wall: DC 10 Dexterity check pick the lock of the door with tools, or DC 22 Strength to break the door down. To get out of your collar, requires a DC 14 STrenght check, or a DC 8 lockpick)
breaking Vimaks concentration, Nilsa leans in and whispers in his ear Mirna .. before she was broken, whispered that her husband had a momento... if you could return that to her... it may bring her some peace.
(Oh, we're shackled to the wall. That would have been good to know. That why I thought the collars might be magical. I thought it was weird that they just put collars around our necks and didn't attach the collars to anything.)
Cirrus will hug Nars, begin rocking back and forth, and begins singing softly to calm him down (It's not a secret, I just make my songs collapsable so you don't have to scroll through them each time, and you can ignore them if you want):
Let's go to the garden, you'll find something waiting
Right there where you left it, lying up-side down.
When you finally find it, you'll se how it's faded,
The underside it lighter, when you turn it around.
Everything stays~
Right where you left it,
Everything stays, but it still changes,
Ever so slightly,
Daily and nightly,
In little ways,
When everything stays.
He then addresses Carp, sadness in his eyes hearing his last name, "thank you Carp. You don't have to worry, my friends and I are going to get you all out of here. No one is becoming slaves on my watch."
(What modifiers would I add to a lockpick check, and do I need to specifically need a special lock pick, such as the one provided in the Thieves' Tools?)
"Bastille, hand me the spell scroll." If she does, Cirrus will put it beneath his leather chest piece, such that it cannot be seen, but could be grabbed if you knew where it was. If the DM rules that to retrieve it I would have to doff the leather armor, then don it again, then Cirrus will unfurl the scroll, pull up his sleeve, and wrap the scroll around his upper arm, then pull down his sleeve again. Either way, he has it, he can reach it easily, and it cannot be seen from an outsider's perspective.
(Btw, I'm not saying that I think we've earned enough exp to level up, but it seems like our heroes have a quiet moment to themselves. And if they were to suddenly gain abilities that could help them in a tough spot, it seems like the time they would learn them is when they are preparing to break out of prison. Mostly I'm just curious how much we've earned, and we're reaching a lull anyway. )
You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
(Calm down cirrus, I was planning to have you all gain EXP after everyone posts. this is 'during' the rest. And most DM's will rule you HAVE to have thieves tools but in this case, if you can logically find something in your inventory small enough... and it would be a flat D20 roll unless you have proficiency with theives tools another option is to give inspiration to someone who's likely to pass their checks, and work it from there)

Bastille isn't bothered by crying children or traumatized women. She rests patiently and waits for her magic to return. She looks up at the gnomish boy and says, "I regret to inform you that your father is dead. The Redbrands killed him."
Also Bastille will hand Cirrus the spell scroll when he asks for it.
When Bastille breaks the news to the aforementioned gnomish boy, Cirrus gives her this look of exasperation. He says nothing, but he is thinking, "Seriously? I just got one kid to calm down, now I have to deal with two? I get that we have to break this news to him soon, but I was thinking we could take advantage of his relatively calm emotional state until everyone's out of harm's way."After getting the scroll and hiding it sufficiently, he returns to attempting to quiet, calm, and generally reassure the two children.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Half-eaten body," Vimak whispers to himself, trying to remember. He lays on his back on the hard stone floor. It reminds him of home.
"Nilsa? Will you see if you can tell how much time passes between visits by the guards? It would be good to know if there is a pattern. I'd do it, but I'm going to try and sleep off some of my wounds." He tries to speak persuasively: 12.
Little Carps gnomish eyes begin to well up, tears forming at the base of his tiny gnomish lids, his face contorting into raw agony at the harshly broken news, like pulling a bandaid off with no warning of a wound that hadn't healed that you weren't even aware of. Burying his face in his hands, Carp simply wails his sorrow n-n-now.. I'm... all alone..... could just barely be understood in his warbling shaking form, curling up into a defensive ball .. to shield himself from the world that he now had to face entirely alone...
The women look at Vimak, as he didn't speak to anyone in particular, and just nod, if a bit defeatedly. Their focus on the poor child whom Bastille had all but physically slapped with words alone. Their eyes shot venom at her, though the sister saw her brother held in Cirrus' arms, who was, despite all odds, calming down, her expression.. thankful. You could have been more tactful, you didn't have to be such a *****!the younger woman says. Both of them shaking their heads and settling back into their cells.
It takes several long hours before Carp finally wastes all his energy, his tears staining the floor, but the dehydration caused by hours of flowing liquid as he passes out, still shaking. No redbrands have came in that time, though every once in a while, odd, stiff motions but they always end swiftly.
As you all think back upon your recent actions, reflecting on what created this situation, the terrorism the redbrands bring upon the town, and how admittedly well you all did versus such a large force compared to your own. You feel a little stronger. Everyone gains: 134 EXP, and gains the benefits of a long rest.
Bastille leans against the wall and rests. She didn't care much for others. She cares about herself more than anyone else but even so, she didn't care much about herself either. The venomous glares bounce off her like it's nothing. The kid would've found out sooner or later and in this life, everyone's alone so he isn't any different. It's just that he is now realizing this truth... or at least, that's what the truth was to Bastille. She meditated on revenge against the Red Brands for daring to lock her up like this.
In her meditation she remembers her childhood and the teachings of the greater witch, Lady Atroshka. "Why are you crying for that dumb beast, child? Is it because we needed its paws for the brew? Did you expect it to live forever or walk with you on the path of life? How absolutely moronic can you be!? No one lives their lives with someone else, their lives are theirs alone. Would you like to give your life to save it? No? Then shut up or I'll use your bones in my next ritual."
At the end of the rest, Bastille opens her eyes and looks at Cirrus. "Do you have a plan to escape?"
Cirrus whispers to Bastille, "What do you think is going on with that fourth villager? The one that successfully hid from the Redbrands?"
"An escape plan? Unfortunately, no. I wasn't thinking about that part when I surrendered, I was more focused on not dying. As for escaping, we're not going anywhere while we are chained to the wall. I don't have a lock pick or else I would try to pick the lock. I've never picked a lock, but how hard could it be? I wish I knew what time it was. We raided the base during the day, so maybe if we're lucky, it's night now, the the Redbrands are resting. If we do get out of these chains, I'm torn over what to do about the other victims. We could try to free them ad try to get them out of the base, but I'm afraid if we get caught then they will be in grave danger. I'm wondering if it is safer to leave them here, dispose of the redbrands, then come back to free them." He pauses to ponder a bit more. "When I asked you for the scroll, I thought I might be able to make use of it in our escape attempt, but I'm not so sure now. I'm not sure if we could charm anyone in this base, since they all know who we are and that we are their enemies. I could attempt to charm the first guard we see, maybe have him pretend that he's been ordered to take us before Glastaff, and then we take out the Redbrand leader?. Or we could wait until we see Glastaff and try to charm him to our cause, but either way I wonder if it would be easy for a non-charmed Redbrand to see through the obvious magical enchantment."
"Wait... see through..." Cirrus has a look of shock and realization, and begins to whisper more emphatically and energetically, "you took some potions, didn't you? That will be greatly helpful! Ah, but there's only two of them, and three of us. Ugh, but it still won't be of any use while we're stuck to the wall and weaponless." Cirrus calms down, seeming slightly more defeated, "If one of us could get out, then they could take the potion, maybe find where our weapons are? And maybe bring some of them back to us? I don't know, I'm just spitballing ideas here."

Vimak asks the women in his cell, "Do either of you have a hair clip? A small piece of wire? Something similar?" He looks around the room for a moment. "I don't think i see plates or food trays. What time do they bring meals? Do they bring meals?"
He does a hundred quick burpees to get his blood flowing. "I can try and break out. But what then? Weapons will be a priority. Mirna? Nilsa? Any thoughts? Anything you've noticed that might help us?"
The woman shakes her head no at first but.. then brightens.. ever so slightly, as she remembers the few bobbins she has in her busom. Pulling two out, she hands them to Vimak. I..I don't see how those will help though.. what do you intend to do?
And after Vimak does (whatever the hell) Burpees (are XD) the woman looks to him, shaking her head in the negative. We were unconscious when we were brought here.... so... We all have no idea about the layout.... the only things we know.... are hte guard usually changes every four hours but... it seems whatever you did upset their plans..... and normally they feed us a single loaf of bread per day, and bring us water every other... beyond that we'll be of no use to you... But... none of you have told me... if you do get out of here and get us free... can you find my husbands momento.... it should be where his body is... I can understand if you choose not to... Simply saving us is reward enough...
(A burpee is an exercise. You do a push up, jump up to your feet, then get back down to push-up position, do a push up, and repeat.)

He does a hundred quick burpees to get his blood flowing. "I can try and break out. But what then? Weapons will be a priority. Mirna? Nilsa? Any thoughts? Anything you've noticed that might help us?"
Death on the Water and Baldur's Gate Bodyguard
Occassional Dungeon Master.
(A burpee is an exercise. You do a push up, jump up to your feet, then get back down to push-up position, do a push up, and repeat.)
