Rhaucred is able to determine that this castle was built by elves and from the decorations around the castle, they seemed to have an attachment to nature.
Nedrick and Mort study their new found objects.
OOC: Please let me know if you guys are planning to rest or if you guys are ready to leave to collect the ore mentioned by the forgemaster.
taking a short break from studying, mort stretches his legs and strolls through the castle in search of a brass brazier. if successful he will preform the summon familiar ritual.
Mort is able to find plenty of brass around the castle. The dwarf inhabitants seem to really enjoy the aesthetic of brass. With a brass brazier located, Mort performs his ritual for summon familiar.
OOC: Please give me a description for your familiar.
Mort is able to summon his familiar (Please describe it in your next post) and continues to study the book for the next few hours. The language in the book is at first illegible but in a similar fashion to the villages, the letters slowly begin to shift in the common tongue. The book is very short and contains only a single passage. It reads:
"Betrayed. How could we be so foolish...
The green dragon Velera was supposed to be our ally, but all she wanted was the secret to the King's immortality. She has allied with the under elves that live under the mountain. During our celebration ceremony, they stormed the castle and took us all prisoner. They have been executing us one by one trying to get us to talk, but our pact with the king seals us to silence. Thus, I write this to you in a moment of desperation. Tell the kingdom the king is under attack. We need aid. This spell will keep this book from being destroyed easily. Someone must help us, before it is too late..."
Nedrick spends some time studying the spyglass and is able to determine that it is a Spyglass of True Vision. Once be day, the spyglass can be manipulated to see through any solid surface up to 5 feet thick for up to a minute. This vision acts as if the wearer has darkvision. The manipulations of the lenses take precise maneuvering and require a DC Dexterity of 10 to align properly. Regardless of the outcome, the spyglass takes 24 hours to recharge before the process can be attempted again.
The group then lays down for a long rest to prepare for their journey into the fiery mountains. As TT lays down and sleeps, her dreams are visited by the magic of the staff. She must roll a DC of 11 to remember the dream.
The rest is completed without any issues. The party is ready to depart for their journey to find the ore.
TT awakes from her slumber and is starting to recall the details of her dream whenever Mort starts to hiccup and starts talking loudly in his sleep "... The winez is good when the grapes go bad..." Unfortunately his sleeping mumble distracts her from recalling all the details and she will have to try again on the next long rest.
A few moments later, Hovarlig comes in and says "Aye, I hope ye all are prepared. Let us get going." The group awakens and gathers there things and sets out across the make shift bridge and head around the the deep trench to the back side of the castle. Hovarlig looks to Jorful and says "Ye get the back. I will lead." He then turns to the party and says "Watch yer feet from 'ere on out. We will be trekkin' up the mountain and there good be some lava still not solid. I bet it would give yuns' quite a burn. Especially you, ye water one." Hovarlig points at TT with a smile. He then turns around and begins climbing up the the rocks, seemingly following a very faint trail.
The trek is not too long, maybe only two hours, but the terrain is unforgiving. The skies are now darkened so much from the ash that it appears to be dusk time, even though the sun has not moved at all. On top of a tiny ridge, Hovarlig holds up his hand and says "Aye, there is a large chunk! Look at that beauty." He then points down into a canyon below where you see:
Jorful then catches up and looks into the canyon below. After a brief delay he says "There will most likely be an earth elemental guarding this. How do we want to go about this?"
Hovarlig answers Hunding "There is only one thing that an earth elemental is weak to and that is thunder. There skin be tough as rocks too. Any physical damage to them seems to be not as effective as normal. They do like their gems though. Probably why they are protecting the ore. There are a few precious gemstones about in it. They can move about in the ground too. So once we go down there, be on your guard."
Mort throws rocks but he does not notice anything out of the ordinary.
mort utters an incantation and twirls his staff casting mage armor upon himself.
”we are ready to descend into the canyon at your lead master dwarf, but should we encounter the elementals you mentioned, i fear our company's weapons will prove ineffective. nonetheless we have a quest which needs completing. we should take great effort to stay spread out. let us make haste.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nedrick will take up the rear as the party approaches. When the party is 30 feet away from the ore he will take out the new Spyglass and attempt to scan the dirt for an Earth Elemental hiding under the surface. He will then attempt to shout of the location if successful.
The group descends down into the canyon and slowly approach the ore. Nedrick falls behind and pulls out the spyglass. He manipulates the lens to see into the ground. At first he sees nothing, but when they are within about 40 feet of the ore, he sees a shadow approach from the right. He yells at the group "To the right!". Everyone is alerted but they don't see anything. A few seconds later a large mass of rocks begin to emerge from the ground!
Hovarlig turns and says "Aye! 'Ere she is.. At arms!"

Master dwarf you have the most experience of any of us battling these elementals. Do they have any weaknesses we can exploit?
With morts new black feathered companion resting on his staff he gazes into the canyon.
