Trying his best to sound reassuring, he addresses Wilfan. "Now, Wilfan, I understand the urgency, but there's no telling what dangers lie ahead. I would think it unwise to travel so long without at least stopping to catch our breath. Besides, this could be an opportunity to learn of the danger that awaits us."
Turning to face the traveler, a wide, practiced smile on his face. "Greetings, fellow traveler, I am Jean, and my dear companions here are Wilfan, Feth, Elizabeth, and Garner. May we have your name?"
"It would be rude not to! My name is Audett. I am traveling to the festival of the harvest in the city with my ox."
"Danger, you say? Yes, you shouldn't be in these hillsides after nightfall, dangerous creatures roam at night. Why, just a few days ago one of my own sheep was mauled to death by some beast! The strange thing is, it was only mauled, not eaten; I don't understand what would do something like that to a poor defenseless sheep! It's kind of scary."
"Well, Gemcaptors or Reclaimers...let's put this to a vote. Those who wish this band to be named Reclaimers say AYE, those in favor of Gemcaptors say NAY."
"AYE" Garner says. //Gemcaptors-1 Reclaimers-1//
For hours Garner and the (Gemcaptors/Reclaimers) //Pending vote// march. He does his best to maintain pace. An hour into the march he feels the old injury, the memory of axe tearing flesh and severing bone amplifies his pain..he feels a need to halt and rest, if not for only a few moments.
Up ahead he sees a young woman in red leading a bull adorned with flowers.
Garner overhears Wilfan state his desire to not delay their march. Garner sees this as his chance and yells to Kaida from the back of the band.
"Kaida...Kaida! Is this cave much further? " //Does Kaida share the distance?//
//If the cave is close// Garner bids the band to come close and whispers, "I feel we should halt and see if this woman can share knowledge about the area...troubles, raiders, myths, stories...that sort of thing. Perhaps she knows about the Gem...perhaps this festival honors the gem or guardian of the gem...maybe they have free mutton and ale? Perhaps we should visit?"
//If the cave is further// Garner bids the band to come close and whispers, "I agree with Wilfan, we shouldn't delay...although a quick greeting would be polite. I am very curious about this festival and why a bull has a crown of flowers."
She laughs. "No no, the ox only gets a fancy wreath on special occasions like this one. It's the festival of the Fertile Goddess, She who makes the crops grow and the livestock fecund. Surely you've heard of the festival? Or maybe not, you look like you may not be from around here..." Her voice trails off.
”Sadly no never heard of it, as you guessed I’m not from here. Although It appears you’re from the region. Have you heard tell of any stories regarding a gem?”
"Many tales of magic gems, rings, necklaces; I don't know where to start," she laughs. "They say a blood red magic ruby was owned by the vampire Gulthias, for example. And that a sapphire darker than the deepest seas is guarded by an ancient beast. They say the mighty Ogre of the Mountain has a magic gem, too." She trails off, listing several other stories of her people.
Wilfan is familiar with a few of the stories, such as that of the vampire, who was staked to death with still-green wood which took root and grew into a twisted, leafless tree.
"Nay" Elizabeth had said as Garner put this to a vote between Gemcaptor and Reclaimers. They had all walked for a while as she was surprised to see the young woman leading a bull with flowers on its head, hearing her talk about a festival and ask them what brings them here, a good time to rest and share tales. While she heard Wilfan and had agreed, Jean did make some very good points too. "I-It would not hurt to rest and learn more about this area after all." she had said back, nodding as Jean introduced all of them to the young woman. The woman then introduced herself, telling them not to be out at night and how her sheep got mauled to death by a beast a few days ago, but not eaten though. She listened to Garter, agreeing with him about the woman maybe having knowledge of the gem or wanting to know what the festival honor as he asked her. Audett mentioned that the festival is for the Fertile Festival, questioning that they look like they aren't even from around here as Elizabeth shook her head. She was listening to the other talk about stories about gems such as a blood red ruby owned by a vampire, a sapphire one guarded by a beast, and the mighty ogre having a gem too. Then Garner asked Kaida what color gem they were looking for and sure enough, he said that it was the blood red ruby Audett mentioned. "O-Oh, that means we have to go up against a vampire? That seems really scary, in the stories I've read they are very smart and clever, able to trick others easily with their charm before drinking their blood." Elizabeth had mentioned, remembering some fictional stories where an aristocratic vampire appears before an innocent girl, charming her with his mysterious powers and eloquent words before taking her away to be his forever. But Roselia is elegant and eloquent too, she should be fine then, right?
No no; like I said, the vampire was staked to death about a century ago, so he shouldn't be a problem! Who knows what else may lay in store for us in the cavern, though...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Wilfan
This talk of Vampires has Wilfan nervously thinking back to anything he has read on them. He wants to examine the girl and bull to see if they are what they seem to be.
Feth stays quiet during the vote, not really caring either way, as neither spoke to him much. When Audett spoke about the different gems, Feth quickly wrote down small notes on each of them, speaking up with a slightly scared tone at the mention of vampires ”V-vampires?” Feth says semi-loud, before whispering to himself ”Wow, this world is really like fiction, Vampires, Elves, Dragons, and even magic!”. He first tenses up when Kaida mentions that they are searching for the gem owned and guarded by a vampire, before breathing a sigh of relief when he mentions that it's dead. ”I’d love to hear more of your tales, Audett, you seem to know quite a bit about this land and it’s history. Uh, if the rest of the group doesn't mind, of course”He laughs slightly nervously at the end.
Wilfan is quite certain that they are, in fact, to his relief, just a young woman and her ox.
Audett smiles at Feth. "There's a bright green emerald owned by a great dragon of the forest which is said to be able to cure poison, or inflict it; then there's a legendary pearl said to come from a monstrous clam that shines with the sun's radiance even in the dark! There are stories of other, lesser magic gems, as well as magic rings and necklaces, of course."
Quietly listening to Audett as she tells her tales, Jean decides to interrupt her: "Pardon me, Audett, but there is a few things I would like to know. Was there anything else odd about the death of your sheep?"
Not entirely sure how to phrase the next question, Jean hesitates a bit before continuing: "Did it seem to you that there was less blood than what there should have been? I somewhat suspect that the creature that attacked your sheep was, if not the vampire you spoke of, than at least some creature like it. Perhaps some servant or the like. If nothing else, it would at least allow us to rule out vampires as the creature that attacked your sheep."
"No," she replies, a little unsure of herself, "I didn't see any bite marks, and I looked for them rather thoroughly. And there certainly was enough blood. But, maybe..." She trails off.

Oh yes, we're almost there in fact!
Audett notices Kaida and exclaims "Oh my, you have a pet dragon? What is its name?"
Kaida answers, They call me Kaida, pleased to meet you.
"OH! It can talk! How wonderful, where did you find it?"
Garner
”Ah...it’s not a pet.” He stares awkwardly at Kaida silently mouthing sorry.
“Now Audett, what does your festival of the harvest honor? Also if I may be frank, do you always dress your ox up and take it for walks?”
She laughs. "No no, the ox only gets a fancy wreath on special occasions like this one. It's the festival of the Fertile Goddess, She who makes the crops grow and the livestock fecund. Surely you've heard of the festival? Or maybe not, you look like you may not be from around here..." Her voice trails off.

Wilfan
Wilfan listens intensity does everything she is saying sound familiar to what he knows of the area and it legends.
Wilfan is familiar with a few of the stories, such as that of the vampire, who was staked to death with still-green wood which took root and grew into a twisted, leafless tree.
Garner
”Kaida” He says turning away from Audett.
“Did you mention the color gem we seek?”
Did I not? I suppose not! The first gem is in fact precisely the blood red ruby the young woman speaks of! A smile comes over Kaida's face.
