Sorry all - Just catching up.
Taking damage, George throws himself at his assailants, doubling down on his attacks, swinging wildly with his shortsword and hatchet 'Rapists! Murderers! Thieves! Heathens! Die!'

Sarah has to restrain herself a little as the last two surrender. Her heart is still thundering and her reflexes on edge.
<<Once? I get a taste of battle and I only strike once? I have no earthly idea why you depend so on that wretched bow.>>
"Because I prefer to keep my guts on the inside," Sarah retorts and sheaths the complaining Gramps.
She then retrieves her bow and keeps it ready. They would need to question them but one by one, separately, under the effects of Charm Person. Sarah shares her plan with the others outside of the bandit's earshot and then gets down to the business of casting the ritual. She wants to know who they are, what they were doing, any plans they had, what other groups are in the area, anything about the cartels and the road ahead.

Your new 'friend' tells you that they where an enforcement squad tracking down deserters from the battle at El Paso. "Nobody disobeys El Jefe."
Now Sarah wants to know more about this 'El Jefe' and what went down in El Paso. Any idea about numbers would be appreciated too.
OOC: Do you want social rolls to be made or leave the spell to do the heavy lifting?
You’re after general information that friends share.
”The gringos in El Paso where a lot tougher than we thought. Its turned into a stalemate.
El Hefe was a cartel lieutenant who understood the Change and took over. He was a military history buff and was always on about how Santa Anna screwed it up and he could do it much better.”
“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
"Understood the Change, how?" Thomas asks Sarah to ask their 'captive'.
___
After the battle is over, he searches through the belongings and gathers what crossbow bolts he can recover.
“He quickly realised that guns didn’t work anymore and he and his brothers took out the cartel leadership. He’s the toughest bastard with a blade I’ve ever seen, even in the Changed world.”
Some miscellaneous crap of little value plus a ring on a chain. “That’s an ID for a cartel enforcer. Make sure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.”
"You'd think these guys would carry a little spending money, or at least decent hunting gear. I surprised they survived the open road. We should introduce El Jefe to the Protector. Maybe they could take each other out. What's the plan for the prisoners?"

Max, never being one to beat around the bush "Stab them in the throat and dump the bodies in the desert."
'Agreed. These are bandits, and should be treated as such. We stand in judgment of you, your banditry, your cruelty and your general lawlessness. You are hereby sentenced to die by the sword. Do you have any last requests?'
Shaking his head at the necessary brutality, Thomas comments afterwards "I only hope that some day soon -perhaps in my children's lifetime- this kind of thing stops being needed and we go back to courts and proper justice."

Sarah shakes her head. She knows it's necessary but can't deny they've lost a layer of civilization with the Change far more important than the internet or even working plumbing. Not that leaving them at their back was possible and when the evidence was so clear... Sarah could only think of the people they'd killed and the ones they might in the future if given the chance.
Travelling in the morning you see vultures circling out in the desert. You leave the bodies to the cats and move on.
Around midday the owl spots a group on foot moving down the road in the same direction. 10 people armed with crossbows and machetes. He came up from behind them so he hasn't been seen. They are a rough looking group with gang tats.
Day 9 261
You travel on until you reach Las Cruses, about 30 miles north of El Paso. The town looks to have been abandoned since the Change. You look around but the place has been striped bare. One more day.
Day 10 711
About midday you meet some outriders from ToC. After the usual back and forth one of them recognises Sarah's grannies name. Yes she is still alive.

OCC So Uthvern is up 13 htpts, yes?
Aleister will see if the corpses have anything of interest, healing things, bandages, etc; plus a little 'gold' would not be rejected.
Investigation 13
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.

Yes to the hit points. See other post for ‘treasure’ on the bodies.
