Day 42
You are up early ready to travel, the two people from Junction City are Frank Berry from the machining shop and Noa Akinaga-Wright (new player) who is muscle to look after Mister Berry. You start north and Aleister and Frank can continue their discussion about machinery. Five miles to the north is the village of Monroe which was abandoned by the population, they went to Salem. Frank points to the west "Silver Coyote Winery is down there. I think the owners stayed on rather than evacuating to Salem"

Monroe is the last town before Corvallis, you'll be travelling through farming country. As dusk approaches you do see a house with lights up ahead.
Uthvern looks to the others, "Should we go check it out or carry on and ignore? I'm thinking we should check it out, personally. Might be some friendlies, though best be prepared, right?"
Thomas rejoins the group as they depart, his owl perched surprisingly steadily on his shoulder as they ride. Introducing himself to the new members, he talks to the rest "So, did you all have a nice night - all comfy and warm? I was jut fine in the woods, thank you very much. I need a magical tent or something, if I'm going to keep staying outside when you meet new people."After getting an update on their findings, and seeing the house in the distance, he answers Uthvern "These days, every one is unfriendly until proven friendly. On penalty of death, too! If they've lit up their house, they probably have some serious defenses against unfriendlies. We should be very careful if you want to visit."
“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Thomas doesn't perceive anything of interest. The house is back from the road about 200', they have a barn and there is a tractor stalled in a field. You spot no one moving around. You don't get a direct look at the light source but it wavers as you would expect of an open flame.
'Ok - same drill. Thomas, you hang back a bit to cover our rear - although this time we'll be sure to get you once we've decided if they're safe. Everyone else - let's look scary until we don't need to anymore.'
With that, George strings his bow, notches an arrow and turns his horse towards the house.

Grinning in response, Thomas again hobbles the horse back in the woods a ways, then dons the Ghillie suit and hi-tech armor and stakes out a good watch point. Owl at the ready on a different location, they both watch for anything worrisome from as many directions as makes sense, focused mainly on the farmstead.
%There seems to be a magic tent-type spell in the book, too. Tiny Hut, it's called, but it's beyond me, with all the magic squares and antique phraseology. % He mind-speaks to Gamliel
#Maybe once you've spent more time with it, you'll figure it out. It's strange to be in such a magically dead universe. It's like no one's been using magic for a long time.# the pseudo bird observes.
%No one has. If the Bible or other books are any indication, no one has used any kind of real magic for hundreds of years.%
#It might be worthwhile to see if any old magic artifacts are still around. Anything that's survived centuries of disuse should be pretty powerful.#

Perception for Thomas/Owl : 12 / 22
Thomas perceives not so much but the birdie has picked out 10 men in shoddy armour spread amongst the buildings. Only one has a crossbow, the others are in leather and shield with spears.

Hi, this is not a good game for complete beginners as it not a standard DnD game - everyone is human, no combat spells, no magic items, no 'monsters' as such. I suggest you go here
Silently cursing the failure to arrange communication methods over a distance, Thomas whistles to the group and tries to impart the details of what Gamliel has spotted. After alerting his party to the guards, he changes position significantly, finding a new redoubt.
Ooc - I’m sure hand signals can get the general idea across, but I’m assuming such a thing would ruin any stealth he had.

Perception check 8 Aleister will try and discern what sorts of smells are 'in the air'; most particularly anything that suggests human remains, such as what eaters might produce.
"I do not like the feel of this," Aleister says to Berry and his escort. "Ready yourselves for action. Remember, the Professor is to be protected. Do either of you have any ranged weapons?"

George:
'Thanks be to Aleister's nose and Gameril's eyes. Not sure what we're walking into here but I don't like the way it feels.'
'I'm gonna try to disappear, U and Herman you take point. Max and Aleister stick close to the professor - bug out if things go south and pick up Thomas on the way.'
George deliberately ignores the newcomers - he doesn't know them well enough to trust them one way or another yet.
He then slips off his horse, hitching it to the back of the wagon and pull his Ghillie Cloak over his head and drifts away from the party's main line of advance - looking for a shallow or a shrub to hide. Once he can see the 'guards' he begins studying them to prepare Hunters Mark.
Rolls if needed:
Stealth: 14
Perception: 21
Initative: 11
Ready action: George will fire at the first sign of aggression - either the aggressor if he has line of sight, or the crossbowman if he doesn't Attack: 23 Damage: 7 Hunters Mark 2

Aleister asks about any throwing knives; like those one might find at a sporting goods store. Other than that he is ready to go.

OCC My post seem to be behaving weirdly; suffering some kind of temporal distortion, sigh.
Aleister will check out the place with his Steiners, anything of note visible?

I seem to have overlooked this, yes you can have some throwing knives
