“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
George 'WTF!?!?! We need to clear this barricade and get the f^$k out of here now. Police these bodies and let's get off the road.'
George moves to check the bodies for any intel - particularly interested in the construction of their gear or it's origin. Once done, he pulls his Ghillie cloak back up and moves towards the woods to get out of view.
The slight blur of a bird launching up from the skirmish ahead told Sarah the option of stealth had just vanished. The damn thing would see her in an instant from above. Taking a breath and letting it out slow, she quelled her nerves and took inventory.
The slight tinge of hoarfrost on her armor told her she had some leeway if everything ended belly up. Rubbing a hand over her face, a ratty goatee was reassuring. Traveling as a man was just safer these days. The narrow face and weedy build of her disguise made people overlook her as a threat. After a moment, she hung her longbow over her shoulder in a fashion that would allow her to access it quickly and then she ran a hand over the pommel of the saber at her waist.

Damn sword had an opinion on everything.
"Hush. Don't want to freak them out first thing," Sarah all but hissed. "Besides, we don't have a choice and you know it."
Lacking anything resembling a white flag, she instead eased herself from her crouch with her hands up. Slowly she moved forward until she was in reasonable shouting distance.
"Hey there, I'm not looking for trouble or with those guys. I'm just a traveler. You don't mind if I pass on?"

"Holy Ravioli Batman, folks out for a stroll are popping out of the sands like boiling frogs!" Aleister grunts and shakes his head. Keeping a hand to weapon he grins, "Gotta work on the metaphors, don't I." He looks the newcomer up and down ( Perception 4 ).
"Pass on or pass through? Hmmmm. Doesn't really matter as long as you're not mixed up with those idiots," he waves a hand casually at the ex-Reconcistadores, or whatever they thought they were. "What brings you to this minor corner of Hell ... O'nameless one?"
OCC hopefully his perception will give him a clue...

"It would be 'pass through'. I've been trying to work out how to get past that barricade for a while. Figured I'd have to move around them but was worried about going in blind. I... couldn't handle too many on my own. I'm trying to get to Truth and Consequences, where I hope I still have family. You heard anything about the road ahead or who those guys were?" Sarah asks, avoiding the question about her name.
It bothered her to give so much information freely but nothing wagered, nothing won. Carefully she assessed the man who had spoken and the others, trying to judge how trustworthy they were and if they tried to deceive her.

Ooc. Is that a talking sword I'm hoping to understand about?????? God I ******* love talking weapons. If it is, imma hope to get a talking shield. Because that would be terrifying and I'd probably call it the Aegis.
Ic. Uthvern keeps his shield at his side, and a good grip on his katana. However he works on clearing out the barricade throwing the dead bodies off to the side into bushes and whatnot keeping an eye on this newcomer.
OOC: Sarah would likely give you the sword if she could. Might be able to loan Gramps out, though... Also, her 'disguise' is actually a spell. Can that be perceived as you might a physical disguise ? I thought it was a check to perceive an illusion. Just clarifying for later :)

OOC: Argh! Sorry my mistake. Too many revisions of the character. Thought I still had the Mask of Many Faces invocation. Misguided physical disguise it is!
George 'Truth or Consequences, huh? We are headed in that general direction ourselves, seems like it would be safer for a woman to travel with some company these days don't you think?'
George pointedly calls the traveler out on her subterfuge but keeps moving the entire time, checking the Bandits gear and getting the bodies out of sight with Uthvern as quickly as possible. He pulls the rations off the body and tucks them into his pack and the pack of anyone else nearby. Even a year after the Dying Time, George is haunted by the fear of running out of food.
Turning back to his party he calls out 'Looks like our boys here aren't local, which means the ones who bugged out aren't likely to come roaring back with the cavalry, but we should still clear the area and get off the road ASAP. Thomas and Aleister, can our winged friends see anything coming our way?'

When new arrival shows himself, Thomas remains in the shadows and asks Gamliel to check the area for other possible threats. Once it is determined he's alone, he slips out and checks the the bodies. When George mentions the newcomer is a woman, Thomas startles and looks closer, seeing the truth behind the disguise. After helping with the dead guards, he replies to George "Will do. It might take them a while to get over their fear. Thugs like that don't usually think to well when confronted by superior force." He sends his familiar out to scan the area for possible regrouping and other threats. Perception 21

Gamliel may or may not see our new player who will be turning up soon. We have been ironing out the details of her character.
