Curiosity gets the better of Zurzg as he stands at the top of the stairs. He bares his teeth to the wolfhound restrained by Moss, before sniffing the air for signs of anything untoward down below, then descending the stairs leading to the basement.
Kai, you notice a lot of undisturbed dust and dirt, you see some „tracks“ in the dirt, where rainwater was collecting and dried again. But you don‘t see any sights that someone was here within the last month or maybe even more.
Zurzg you carefully sneak downstairs. From the landing you see two corridors, very similar to the ones upstairs leading left and right. At the end of both of them you see small windows maybe two meter up high were the ground level is. Nearly no light is coming through them because of the high vegetation outside. Each corridor has 3 doorways on each side, some doors are broken, but two rooms to the right still look like they got working doors.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Looking over his shoulder and seeing no one joining him, Zurzg chooses the left-hand corridor, and starts looking inside the rooms with the broken doors, pushing open what remains of the doors where necessary.
Zurzg, the room right next to the stairs is the biggest one of the 3 rooms on this side. It is around 30 feet long and 20 feet wide but without any windows. It is completely empty and all you see is dust. The other two doors are on the opposing side of the corridor, right next to each other. The rooms look like reflections of each other. The wall facing the front of the building is full of windows that start at around 7 feet high up to the ceiling at around 9 feet. Most of the windows are covered by foliage from the outside, but sunlights still baths the rooms in dim light. In the right room you actually see several swallow nests under the ceiling. Three of them seam to be ocupied at the moment, you can hear several chicks chirping for food. The floor under the nests layered with bird droppings.
There are three more rooms in the right corridor.
Nobody, Ree‘lyn:
Ree‘lyn, you catch up with Nobody and Sildar a few meters before the reach the Townhall and you offer to take over from Nobody who struggles with the heavy body. He doesn‘t say anything but nods at you in appreciation. Nobody, you quicly open the front door and Ree’lyn and Sildar drag the unconcious thug inside.
Inside you enter a small foyer. You see an open door leading to a big hall full of chairs and a closed door behind a desk to your right. Sildar leaves the knocked out Redbrand on top of the table before he knocks on the closed door: „Master Webster, it is me, Sildar Hallwinter. I already have need of your jail cells.“
After a short moment the door gets opened and a confused looking fat pompous old man opens the door.
If not already visible Nobody peaks his head around Sildar's shoulder, and waggles the finger of his draconic hand at Webster. "Greetings, Master Webster. Sorry to disturb you, but it is a pleasure to meet you. I'm... nobody in particular, truth be told." He awkwardly smiles. "But its like SIr SIldar says. Very important, uhm... official... business! But nothing you need to worry about too much... I'm shutting up now." The tiefling shrinks in on himself, and quiet poorly tries to at least obscure the redbrand's body without body blocking Ree'lyn.

You see a lot of mixed emotions in a short amount of time on the Townmasters face: confusion, disdain, fear, panic, recognition, hope.
He seams to completely ignore Ree‘lyn and Nobody as he talks to Maltake: „My deepest apology Sir Atredis. I assume Master Sildar already informed you about our predicaments. We are only a small comunity and we lack the manpower and the funding for any kind of law enforcement. As you may know, we have asked the Lord Aliance for some support. So two month ago they send us a contact, Iarno Albrek. But after only a week he disappeared and instead this group of mercenaries started to show up here. I know they are trouble makers, but at least they keep Goblins and Orcs away from the village. They even managed to slay a group of Goblins once. I can not afford to upset them, So i may respectfully ask you to remove him from here.“
Maltake you can do your next Charisma check vs the Townmaster with advantage.
Sizing up the nests as a potential food source, Zurzg licks his lips at the thought of crunchy chicks, turns, and walks over to the other corridor. He looks inside the room with the broken door, tries the handles of the two rooms with working doors, and if operational, he will open each door in turn and look inside.

"As you can tell, master Wester, your real allies have arrived. You might want to know there was a note found with one of those thugs, with words to eliminate the weakling puppet of the city, in order to have a real agent from the Spider put in his place to govern the city." - the Townmaster would break at some point. He should feel how endangered he is...or led to think he is. - "We need all information you know about the Glasstaff and the Spider."
The layout is nearly the same as the corridor on the other side. One dark room 25 by 20 feet next to the stairs. This one has an ordinary wooden door. Oddly enough the door looks to be old, but in good shape. It moves easily and without noise. The other two rooms are twins again, 20 by 20 feet with broken overgrown windows under the ceilings. Dust, dirt and tracks of rainwater and dried watterpuddles on the floor. The twinned room, further down the corridor has another old but functioning wooden door, beside that are they copies of the rooms in the left corridor.
The goblin climbs the stairs to report his findings to the others, pleased with his own efforts. "Zurzg find tasty snacks in one room, but nothing else."

My apologies Master Webster. My temper has gotten the better of me. If I raised my voice in anger, I ask your indulgence. Such is the outrage I feel.
I empathize with your position. It must be difficult indeed to govern during these trying times. Of course you had no choice but to accept any help that was available.
Are these thugs really the best for your town, for the townsfolk?
While we are but passing through, I feel, as I believe the others in my company would also feel, that we need to offer some assistance to your town. Whatever compensation such assistance would be equivalent to could be determined at a later date. But most certainly we have no intention of terrorizing innocent town folk or preying on unknowing travelers.
Do you know anything about the persons my ...Elven companion has mentioned. This Glass Staff and Spider? These may be responsible for the disappearance of Iarno Albrek as well as any other misfortune your town suffers from such as the goblin problem and these thugs.
By the way, do you know where Iarno was last seen before he disappeared?
