"Hey, I'ma spend some time around tha markets an' auctions an' such. Why don't I take along that box we found and see if anyone knows anything 'bout it? Before I do, does any a' ya spellsters know if it has magic on it? Might bring up tha askin' price."
At the end of the Downtime, the thief returns to the group. He is chuckling near-maniacally as he lowers a sack to the table in front of him.
"Buncha rubes 'round here, I tell ya! Wouldn't be able ta bargain thesselves outta giving away their own breakfasts."
He reaches into the sack and pulls out a deadly looking stiletto dagger with a spiraled blade. He removes one of his old daggers from his belt, dulled beyond recognition due to cutting through Thousand Teeth's neck, and tosses it disdainfully on the table in front of him. He kisses the hilt of the stiletto and says:
"Hello, Last Call."
And slips the dagger in its sheath.
Next, he pulls out a pair of delicate silk gloves, reinforced with bands of the supplest leather. He slips the fingerless gloves onto his hands and they begin to fade from view until they are invisible. He waggles his fingers and moves his hands through several exercises.
"Oooh. That's smooth!"
Lastly, he pulls out a bundle of what appears to be wet fabric. It looks heavy with moisture and almost rubbery in texture. As he twirls it around himself and lays it on his shoulders, the fabric appears to be light and flexible, belying its moist appearance. He settles it around himself and pulls the hood up over his head. The cloak quivers and fans out with fin-like wings, as well as a small, slender tail extending from the back.
"Figgered this'd come in handy if'n we's gonna fight them fishy-men."
During the down time Toonary did a few things, the enchanted his mace making it a little stronger. He has also made a scroll of cure wounds and 3 greater healing potions(gives one to each of the party members). Toonary spent some time trying to get on the better side of the local Chauntea, there was little forward movement.
(Sorry things have been crazy with work, currently out of town for a conference. This would be my first time doing down time too so it’s taking me a little bit to get my shit together. I sincerely apologize for the delay.
I do hope to look into a couple new items [a bag of holding and a staff of the woodlands] and perhaps crafting some poisons, or just learning/researching for recipes first if I have too.)
One Morning as you partake of breakfast the Inn Keeper hands you a folded piece of parchment. Curious, you open and peruse its contents.
Hail Brave and Noble Adventurers
Word of your skill, and daring are the talk of Saltmarsh. It is because of this I wish to discuss hiring you for a Task. I will send my Butler, Vertheg, to collect you this afternoon.

Lord Aubreck Drallion.

just an unstable unicorn.
Bag of Holding is uncommon, DC 15.
Staff of the Woodlands is rare, DC 20.
So, you'd spend 100gp and 1 week base.
Then for every extra week you spend, you get an additional +1.
For every extra 100gp you spend, you'd get an additional +1.
Larren has already established we're in a High Magic campaign. So that gets you a +10.
Tally up the bonuses for ONE item and roll a Persuasion check.
If successful, roll 1d6 × 100 gp for the Bag to see how much it will cost (this is in addition to the 100gp and whatever else you spend).
Repeat the process for the Staff.
The Staff would be 2d10 × 1,000 gp. Good luck on that.
Gridolpho still has a bit to lend if you're short. His interest rates are...reasonable.

Remember folks you must have the appropriate proficiencies to craft a magic item. (Don't worry Toonary, you keep the Mace.)
So...no potions? <pencil hovering over character sheet>
DCI: 3319125026
(Gridolpho) Unless you're proficient with an Herbalism Kit. No. You can still buy them if you have the money, and can find a willing seller.
