The portal in its stasis mode looks to have some sort of barrier over it. (Think of it like a glass bottom boat , Just you know swirling portal to demons)
After lighting the torches, Drax would move to the portal and stroke his chin. "Well... I think this is where we are supposed to be. Now how do we open it up... " the Yuan-ti would say moving closer to the edge. Drax would crouch down beside the portal and if he thinks it is safe... he will extend his dark talon finger and touch the portal
Nothing in your history gives you knowledge about how to unlock portals, you know there must be a trigger; but don’t know what it is. You touch the portal and it’s solid like thick glass.
Matteo goes over to look at the door across the room, inspects it for traps (Investigation6), and if he finds none, will attempt to open it. Something down here maybe?
Opening the next door that’s not locked you enter another room. The ceiling is just as high, but instead of a big square room it looks more like a very long room (30 x 100 feet). The smooth stone walls go all the way down. Into the darkness as the braziers are not lit. The floor is made of packed down sand. Walking into the room after some distance a door can be seen on the far end.
"I... Don't like the looks of this room" Drax would say as his feet squish on the sand. Keeping his eyes focused and looking for traps, he would move to the wall and light torches along the right side of the wall with prestidigitation as he gets close to them. He would proceed down the hall with one hand on the right wall, still maintaining the image of the dwarven woman...
Before proceeding through the next door Jengamyr casts mold earth a few times to excavate the middle of the room and a few random spots - looking to see what is undereath.
It takes a bit to move enough of the sand out of the way, a bit 8-10 feet deep you reach the floor. There are some glyphs all around on the floor, the same one repeated.
These runes are related to some sort of evocation enchantment. They seem like they are dormant, there is some sort of a trigger that hasn’t been activated yet.
Drax would continue to move very slowly along the wall towards the next door, touching as little sand as possible. "Very carefully... maybe try to stick to the edges.." Drax would say as he shuffles forward.
Proceeding cautiously into the next room, you enter a much smaller room. Hardwood floor covering a 20x20 square room. Hanging from the ceiling are seven cylindrical metallic tubing. Hanging from just string and completely hollow in the middle.
There is a partially transparent crystal wall across the room, that crystal is about ten feet wide. Looking at the crystal there seems to be a red glow floating in the air.
Matteo is still hanging back, letting the more mystically minded and smarter members of the party take the lead. He wanders over to find Petmorn. These Oghmites are strange folk, with strange tastes. All these rooms feel like a game or a puzzle. It's beyond me, I'm afraid. Do you really think we're headed in the right direction?
If time allows, Matteo closes his eyes and prays to Asmodeus for guidance.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I think we need to find something to break open the portal... like that crystal perhaps." Drax would say as he. slowly and carefully makes his way towards the red glowing crystal. the disguised old woman would touch the black finger as she. inspected the crystal...
Petmorn looks nervously at the portal. “Wherever this leads, we should proceed with caution.”

There is still the door across the room.

You continue down the long hall, the warm sand being kicked up with each step. You make your way to another solid stone door.
Before proceeding through the next door Jengamyr casts mold earth a few times to excavate the middle of the room and a few random spots - looking to see what is undereath.

"It seems that this room is rigged to explode upon some activation- I recommend we proceed with caution."
"How do you suggest we proceed?" Petmorn says.

Think of it like there is a doorway. But inside the open doorway is the clear crystal filling the void. You can not get to the floating red thing.
As dead touches the crystal wall he can feel a vibration.
