Group- Walking into the general goods store you see immaculate shelves filled with various goods all neatly arranged in alphabetical order. The smell of baked goods fills the air. A disheveled man is rushing around in near panic. “W-welcome, how m-m-may I help you?”
Aether- deception with advantage 19
Round roll- 20
(two Nat 20’s?! Didn’t think that was going to happen)
Aether attempts you “help” the two men with the crate as disaster strikes and a shifting wave knocks the man over board with the crate. You look over the side and scream after him. Beginning to climb up the side to jump in after him only to have the other sailor pull you down “It ain’t worth losing two men over it, ain’t nothing to do now.”
The two Wyverns see the offering and a little extra as they swoop down into the water and grab the man and crate. They begin to pull up but chance the firing of the ballistas. However they weren’t prepared of k owing that the canons were readied just in case they came in low. You hear a *tsst *. Before a concussive explosion erupts from the side of the ship. Bones, gore, and meat rain down from the sky it’s almost hard to tell the difference between the man and the Wyverns. The shop begins to relax thinking the ordeal is over, that is before the captain begins to shout orders and get the sails going to leave ASAP.
I walk calmly back up to the captain. "Your crew performed admirably Captain. You have a fine vessel here. I have some associates who remained back Ankhapur. Perhaps you would be willing to go back to retrieve them once you have delivered us to Calimport. We also have somewhat of an exploratory mission to embark on once our work in Calimport is finished. Having a ship and crew such as yours could be quite a boon."
Matteo strides over to the panicking man and attempts to grab him forcefully by the arm (grapple - Athletics13 )
We are investigators, seeking evidence of cultists here. They are madmen and worshippers of darkness and we will purge them with holy fire. Tell me now, what have you seen! Hold nothing back, or it will go badly for you.
Drax would look to matteo and then the man. "I would listen.. and when you are done I am interested in purchasing a few pastries if possible.." He would say with a look of seriousness.
Aether - “Well if you’re companions are anything like you, we’ll be glad to have them on board. However it’s going to be about a well before we’re back in Ankhapur. If we meet back up in Calimport we can discuss our wages then.” The crew makes do with the lost crew as you retire for the night. The captain informed you you would be docking in Calimport by midday tomorrow. Before you walked away.
Group - The man goes to the fetal position as you lunge for him, not putting up a fighting. You hold him aloft in the air as you begin your interrogation. “C-C-Cultists?! I don’t know anything about that. My wife left a week ago... I-I-I Just need to keep things clean for when she gets back. S-She always was on me for being unorganized. She will be surprised, right?” The man collapses into Matteo’s grasp into this awkward hug and begins to sob. Partly out of fear but mostly out of depression it seems.
Matteo extricates himself from the hug and allows the man to fall to the floor. He rolls his eyes at the others in the party, and continues speaking to the man. What was your wife doing before she left you? Where had she been? Did you notice anything unusual about her? Speak up. He eyes the blubbering heap on the floor and considers a well-aimed kick, but holds back - for now.
group - The man attempts to compose himself. “She started.... singing, the same tune. Like a melody stuck in her head. She was happy... happier than she’d been in a while.” He begins to hum the tune of a light hearted song.
”Very well. I shall leave you and your crew to your work. I would like a time to talk either before we arrive or in Calimport if you are able.” I head back to my cabin and continue my work making sure to lock the door so no one walks in on me in the process of cleaning bones.
Group - Risha recalls a song that her elders you him or sing, saying it was an old love song that their elders would sing. She can’t quite recall the lyrics, but understands that it was a widely popular song at one point that now doesn’t get used by the people of today.
You’re free to continue in the store, follow others leads, or any other plan of action to take.
Aether - you retire for the night. Spending the time to thoroughly clean each bone. The rest of the journey is uneventful as you dock the next day. You stop at the captain before getting off the boat “what is it you wanted to discuss, lad?”
Matteo scowls. Nothing, I suppose. He picks up the sobbing man from the floor and pins him against the wall, getting right into his face. Find yourself a new wife, and forget the one who betrayed you. Or hunt her down and kill her. Take control of your life, fool. With a glare of disgust, he leaves the man and walks outside to speak to the others. Perhaps this is a wild goose chase. I had an interest in finding fellow believers in this city, not hunting down some crazed mage who breaks up married couples. What should we care of such a thing?
Risha sighs, sounding mildly annoyed. "I just want something to track or shoot, is that too much to ask?" She shakes her head. "I think a bit more investigation - checking taverns for gossip and such, and then we can put this to bed. I'm used to hunting either traitors who are actively trying to hide from us or holy warriors who don't know the meaning of subtlety. But if I were tracking these people for a bounty...I'd check gossip, then stake out this area to see if the masked group comes back."
"I agree with Risha.. I saw we rather head back to the temple and poison all those holy pricks or we continue our quest to serve the dark lord..." Drax would say with a grin.
Group: (I know it’s left pretty wide open so it can seem daunting to figure out what to do, especially in this format. You can go to the tavern and get a plan, go back to the temple..... to burn it down, patrol the streets, wait until nighttime - see option 1, go research in a library, etc.)

Drax would listen and see if he recognizes the tune or would know the words to the song...
5 plus 6 if insight or plus 2 if history or investigation
The tune eludes your grasp right now, but the group can commit it to memory.

"Old love song," Risha says thoughtfully. She glances at Matteo. "Anything else we want to ask the good sir?"
