Corum nods with Navi and whispers "Let us not make enemies for the colony. I doubt very highly they could repel any type of attack at the moment. It is good to know we arent alone on this island but we dont know anything about them. Maybe we should try watching from a distance and learn about them"

Ulrich
You recognize the members of the smaller group as possibly Lizardfolk from description you have heard in your travels. An ancient reptilian race known to be fiercely territorial. Ancient tales, almost mythology, tell tales of Lizardfolk empires in the eons before Elves and other races arrived on Toril.
"Should we help one of them, maybe? It wouldn't hurt to see if we could befriend one of these creatures. After all, we need to report the things we see on this island to the colonists. Maybe they can give us some useful information." Georges said in a whisper.
Ulrich will whisper back, "Well I have no idea what those things with the razor claws are but the other creatures that are using weapons are called Lizardfolk. We might be able to talk to them, though I can not unless they speak common, but I do know they are fiercely territorial, if we approach we might not even get a word in before they attack."

Before jumping to action Navi would take a moment to study these 'Lizardfolk'. Thinking back to battle training and formations, would this actually be a battle? Or could this be a ritual? Or even gladiator entertainment?
Insight to study their movements and intentions: 4 Even though it could be a long shot, she'd listen hard to see if they spoke any language, or close to a language she knows: Dwarvish, Elvish, Undercommon Perception if desired: 11
Based on the evidence, it would seem the "others" killed the other creature. At some point early on, as they were feasting, the Lizardfolk attacked (either in ambush or stumbled across them while hunting themselves). Once their limited amount of missile weapons were used, the two sides found themselves in a melee. Due to the numbers and weapons involved, they seem to be able to do little damage to each other. However, due to numbers, the Others have a slight advantage and the Lizardfolk are beginning to retreat.
Georges
Sorry, too intelligent for that spell
OCC: If you are wondering, this isolated, they are not speaking draconic.
Party
While you have been watching the melee, more spectators have appeared, and they announce themselves with two terrible, loud growls that are so deep the very air vibrates. The creatures stand 6ft at the hips and are about 20 ft long from their snouts to their tails. They have massive heads with a row of sharp teeth like small daggers, massive legs, and incongruously short arms (maybe half what you would expect) and the stand with their backs almost perpendicular with the ground. Both head and tails are crowned with what look almost to be feathers and the leathery, reptilian skin is a molted mixture of browns, greens and grays (excellent camouflage for the area).
The two melee parties break off their engagement immediately, and stand staring for a moment at the pair of newcomers. But only a moment. The lizardfolk turn to flee to the north while the others move to the west to place themselves between the prize and the newcomers.
Tactical
Assume the felled "beast" is at the center, with north at 0.
Lizard folk are in an orderly retreat at 15, 20ft away from the beast
Others are 380 in a group 5ft from the beast.
Newcomers are 380 30ft from the beast.
You are at 170, 45ft from the beast, hidden behind a low hill running from northeast to southeast.
Corum hesitates before suggesting Maybe we should just watch. We don't know the relationships and interactions here. We could be inserting ourselves into a civil war, or some kind of tribal conflict. I know we have been tasked with exploring and whatnot. But I don't think our benefactors will be too happy when we make this under protected colony a part of a some kind of conflict. I still say we watch, learn, and report immediately what we have found. They need to learn sooner than later so they can invest in proper guards as well as arms and armor. Also I think we are about to see what might be a high level predator. If we get involved here and end up getting killed, or captured there is no one to inform those at city.
Navi would nod in agreement to what Corum is saying. She too prefers to observe at this point. The fighter will pull out her map and notes to begin documenting everything the best she could. She was no scholar, but someone had to write something down.
Navi did her best to sketch out the distinguishing features of each race; document their types of weapons and formations; she’d make note of their sounds, or at least what it sounded like to her; approximately how many of each group etc. She’d scribble anything she thinks could be useful for Altara.
Ulrich looks back and forth between all the combatants, then whispers out, "Ummm, maybe we should move a bit farther away, things are getting far more dangerous and we might be a bit too close to the action."
True to Ulrich's prophetic words, things due get much worse for the combatants below, as a second much louder and deeper growl cuts through the air, while you and the very earth tremors as another monster announces its presence!
The Lizardfolk scatter as an even larger creature starts a lumbering, bone jarring, earth shaking jog from 45 degrees towards. This creature, a more massive and mature version of the two confronting the "Others" over the carcass stands 12ft at the hips, is twice as long, and three times the mass. Where the juveniles are sleek, fast killers, this is a powerful and aged hunter. Long healed scars from tears, puncture and bites cover its body as it gathers speed with a slight limp. Though the rest of the creature has grown, the length of the arms have not, though they look to be well muscled and strong, and it has lost the feather like crests.
The Lizardfolk, who had stayed together as a group, now scatter and abandon their orderly retreat.
The juveniles pick this moment to attack as the spring into the attack, covering the distance in seconds and take the "Others" by surprise. Two are killed outright as with a half leap the monsters land on their picked empty. Weight and long claws quash and ripe in one moment. Another two die before the group recovers as massive jaws close on enemies. Five others are sent flying as tails swat from the juveniles turning.
As the others gather themselves and start leaping on the juveniles, the larger creature arrives. For a few minutes the melee continues, but it is a forgone conclusion as the final 8 Others scatter the the south west.
The monsters due not pursue, but instead comfort each other, with the older licking the wounds of the young before the young begin to each the "Beast" while the older looks on.
OCC: Corum... I know they're big, better hope there are not any giant versions around :) LOL
Corum's jaw drops, his arms fall to his side as he looks on at just how massive and powerful this thing is. Turning to Ulrich, Corum numbly nods and starts backing away from the area very slowly. Whispering, We need to be gone. We need to be gone now.
Assuming you are going to try and sneak out and back to the road.
Fortunately, the party is downwind and once you make if off of the hill, a good amount of your noise is also lost. Moving carefully you are able to make it back to the road.
Looking around nervously expecting an ambush at any moment, Corum whispers We need to get back to the colony and inform them of the things we have seen. They will need to make defense of the town a priority or its going to be like wolves with an unguarded chicken coop
With a slight quiver to his voice Ulrich says, "OK, there is something about this island that is making all the animals grow to huge size and that frightens me a little bit. I assumed the beasts we have already fought were of unusual size, but from what we saw over that ridge that is not the case. We have got to be careful exploring this land as I am not sure we could survive being attacked by one of those larger creatures. Hell a few of the smaller ones could probably easily take us out if they surprise us. We definitely need to find some items of power to help level the playing field. Hopefully we get lucky soon and find some ancient artifacts of this land."
Calming down a bit more with speaking and thinking, Ulrich continues, "Once those creatures go away we might want to go investigate what is left, if anything is left and bring some samples back to town as I am not sure they would believe us if we come back with just pictures and stories of what we have seen."
"So ye' don't think that this snake skull I've been lugging around would be proof enough?" Navi would shrug her shoulder where the jaws rested along. "I know it's a babe compared to em large ones, but we aint equipped for Godzilla."
Ulrich will whisper to the others, "Wait and see who wins and then do a surprise attack, depending on who is left"
“Do we even need to engage?” Navi would question. Why pick a fight?

As you watch the skirmish before you, the smaller party slowly comes together and begins to give ground, though the two sides can do little damage.

As you watch the battle, you become aware of a rhythmic vibration in the ground, like giant footfalls shaking the earth.
