Chronero - Single Player DnD

I will be inside when you are ready. Tomoe heads back inside, her head hung in defeat. I am no good at this kind of thing. I think she still wants to be alone.

Lucia says, "Tough. So Chief, I don't mean to sound all tight-assed but we have a problem. With Lilith dead and Shrike and Shirai gone, we've run out of leads. It's true we've come close to uncovering Boss Rat's identity but now we don't have anymore people we can shake down for information."

That is a problem. Though we have taken out several lower bosses. So i am sure they will still try to find us. Tomoe glares are Kyle. As long as no one stabs us in the back repeatedly...That is not a viable option either. Tomoe thinks for a moment. I have an idea, but i would prefer to not speak about it with a rat hanging about. 

Lucia nods, "I believe people of Shrike's rank are the type of people to know who Boss Rat is and where his base is. And we can discuss this further upon returning to..." Realization hits her and she says, "We need a new base."

Indeed we do. I do not suppose you know of any places that recently lost all its occupants ? 

"Not unless you count Kyle's house. Though I take it this place will come under fire soon enough."

I saw a play once. It was about this ancient war between all the nations. The heroes of the story were a small elite band of soldiers not unlike us. They would hunt down and kill the bad guys from the nation who started the whole war. Those who turned coat and betrayed their nation, as evil as it was, would be branded with a mark on their forehead to show the world what they had done, even after the war would have ended. Tomoe take of on her bolts and tests its sharpness. Perhaps we could follow suit and leave Kyle here marked for all to see what he really is?

(Reference to Inglorious Bastards movie and the marking of Nazis they captured)

At that point Kate walk in. The lantern light gives her a golden glow on one side and a black shadow on the other. Her eyes are still red from all the crying she did during and after the battle. She ignores Tomoe and Lucia and heads straight for Kyle. She asks, "Kyle... why did you betray me? I mean really?" There is an uncharacteristic calmness in her voice. "Look Babe, it's just... I didn't want to betray you and I feel horrible for doing so (obvious lie). I just... I don't know. I got really lonely with you away chasing Rat Liver all the time. That's when Lilith showed up and... well... in that time things just clicked, you know? (Not a lie) I finally found someone to keep me company. Then one thing lead to another and we ended up with feelings for each other. Soon she talked me into working against you." "You... realize she didn't really love you right? She did the same to my brother and look what's happened to him now." "I... I didn't understand it at the time but I do now (Telling the truth about this) and... I'm sorry. I know what I did was terrible but can you forgive me this one time (insincere apology).

Kate quietly stares at Kyle for a while and then closes her eyes. With a sigh she turns her back towards the tied up Kate and walks to the door. She stops and looks over her shoulder to the party. "Come on. Let's go."

Tomoe and Ingrid follow Kate out. They will stay quiet until outside. Is there anything i can do for you Kate?

Is it OK to just leave him like this ?

Kate looks back to the closed door of Kyle's house an says, "Yeah, it's okay to just leave him like that."

so, were do we go from here? Our current hideout is already compromised. Should we camp in the outskirts of town tonight?

Lucia says, "Actually,.. maybe we can use the fact they know where our hideout is to our advantage. Since we have no leads, why don't we go back to our sewer hideout and plan an ambush there. If we can question some of their assassins, we can get more clues." She seems to remember something and turns to Tomoe, "By the way Chief, you said you had a plan. What was it?"

Oh, I almost forgot. It is the same as yours. 

Lucia says, "Well then. Everyone ready to ambush our ambushers?"

After a shirt rest period, I think so. Also...Tomoe pulls out the amulet, I want you to have this. Tomoe puts the amulet on Lucia and gives her a kiss.

Lucia looks at it and says, "Isn't this the same necklace Lilith was wearing? It still has bloodstains on it. Still, it looks magical. Thank you, Chief."

Tomoe tries to clean off some of the blood stains and smiles warmly. We should get some quick rest incase the we need to ambush them tonight.

You head back to base and get ready for the ambush. You only get 2 hours or rest  (short rest) as you stay up all night waiting for your attackers.

However, the assassins never come. Strangely, there was no attack last night. You all are now tired from lack of sleep (Everyone gains 1 level of exhaustion. It's not as bad as it sounds since I allow you to gain the benefits of Long Rest whenever you rest for 8 hours).

Kate says, "Well that was a ******* waste of time."

Also Kate and Lucia both spend hit die to heal up.

Kate: 24
Lucia: 17

Kate: 15
Lucia: 6

Kate is out of Hit die. Lucia spends her last one: 11

Tomoe sighs as the sun starts to come up. She calls in her two retainers and asks them to stand watch and wake her if anyone who looks armed starts to approach the hideout. To hell with it. I am exhausted. Tomoe takes off her armor because you cant sleep in leather armor for no reason and lies down for a long rest. 

Ingrid follows does the same. Both ladys keep their shields and weapons in easy reach
