Going back down into the pool area, the door seemed locked. Lucia steps up to take a crack at it. She bends down a bit picking the lock and after a while, the door clicks and opens.
Lucia Thieves Tools: 16
Beyond is a strangely empty grey stone room. There is only three wooden chairs here and two metal torches attached to the wall. The torches are unlit... and seems clean, lacking any sort of soot marks or ash.
Lucia eyes the torches as those are the only things in this room other than the chairs. She taps the metal disc that attaches the torches to the wall with an instrument from her thieves tools. Then, observing that the torches have never been used, she tries holding on to them and turning them like a valve. It works. She turns one of the torches and the party hears the sound of moving gears under the hard stone flooring. Then they hear what sounds like a heavy portcullis rising behind them. The sound came from inside the murky water. Lucia turns the other torch and it sounds like another hidden path has opened up in the water.
Kate says, "Of course they'd place secret passages in the ******* water."
Diving into the water, it's kind of hard to see very far. The girls could barely see further than 60ft. The water itself is 50ft deep though so they can see the bottom. They jumped in on the middle of the water. They see one gate opened 60ft across to the other side of the water, near the bottom of the pool. The other gate is in the center of the pool on the floor, next to a huge 15x15 pile of seaweed. The fact that the water didn't go tells them that there's more water past the gates.
Ingrid says, "Onee-chan, I don't want to go into the water with my heavy armor. I will stay up in case something bad happens."
Drowning Vine: No surprise. But it did catch you off guard so it automatically wins intiative and makes the first attacks with advantage. This is different from a proper surprise round because if it was a proper surprise round, then the monster would get a whole extra turn

The four swam down for about 15ft. Lucia and Kate could swim deeper but noticing that Tomoe and Mystery are slower and Tomoe can't hold her breath as long as them. they decided to swim slower to stick together. Suddenly long, strong vines of seaweed shoot out from the pile and wrap around Kate and Lucia.Tomoe barely dodges the vine heading for her. The they see the weeds part to reveal four large eyes. All four of them feel a sharp pain going through their head. Lucia manages to resist the psychic attack but the others feel a sense of dread and panic overcome them and a pressure on their chest. It suddenly feels like they are at the ocean floor and this creature from the deep is some strange otherworldly being that shouldn't exist yet it does.
Kate starts to feel angry at the psychic feeling of hopelessness and that familiar cold, quiet rage gave her companions a layer of protection. She tried to yank herself free with her brute strength but failed. They were still 35ft away from the big bulk of the seaweed.
Tomoe and Mystery's turn (No, you can't speak underwater unless you have some way to communicate telepathically. Casting verbal components means you aren't holding your breath and begin drowning)
Tomoe's first arrow gets stuck in the writhing mass of the seaweed. The second one though, draws blood. Tomoe touches the arrows on her quiver to realize she has only 6 left.
Mystery's Turn.
Tomoe may reroll the WIS save. Mystery can also reroll the fear check at the end of her turn.

"Yeah let's keep our guard up."
The party finds themselves at the edge of the murky waters. Kate and Lucia don't quite jump in yet. Hesitating a bit of diving down in there.
Tomoe doesn't hesitate as much, leading the way into the water. And to think, we just bathed.
