This is a treasure trove, says Witt, wondering and touching some of the books in awe. I think this might rival some of the greater libraries. Not that I've ever seen one, of course. But so many books on history. And... this room is well maintained. I wonder if they've all been read. He picks a few from the shelves and reads the odd paragraph, here and there, while the others are busy with their investigations.
Nemeia can't help herself to keep picking up the wand and sitting it down to watch the magic unfold. "This is amazing,"she says with a smile. "It's simple magic, but it is so effective." She'll attempt to show the others the shifting wand that has caught her attention. "No one would even know it's a wand unless they pick it up!"
Nemeia does her best to fight her curiosity in the wand and begins to look at the papers. "It sounds like you were right 9. It looks like nobles in Lynansera were using Linth to attempt to ruin Tarrin." She looks through the papers again. "It talks of removing the royal family so that she can have her puppet... most likely the Duke... be in control. This would then grant control over the entire kingdom to the people of Lynansera."
Nemeia pauses for a moment thinking of all the things this would complicate in the kingdom. "That attack isn't and won't be the last. This is a full effort to take over the kingdom. We can't let her get away with this. I'm getting worried about the Queen's safety. I hope that she's somewhere protected."
Witt- The book you pick up discusses the history of the Shysari Queendom, discussing some of the cultural changes that took place as it began as a mediocre but isolated series of farming communities but eventually growing into a merchant and business focused near theocracy. Over all it seems like a fairly typical historical work.
"We hit paydirt! This is what we needed!"Sora exclaims as she looks over the paperwork with Nemeia, "I'd definitely call this the proof we needed."She then looks up at Nemeia, "One correction though, this wasn't for the benefit of the people of Lynansera. This was for the benefit of a select group of greedy ******** from there. Whoever these nobles or royals are that worked with Linthe, I doubt they were interested in sharing the spoils." She stops for a moment, shaking her head, she considers everything the others have said, "But you're right, they'll probably try to do something again. Not sure how we can stop it, but taking out Linthe is probably a good first step."
Oh, says Witt. Oh dear. This was... foreign people? Foreign nobles? From Lyansera? That's... well, that's bad. That's... Witt looks really shaken, and he's still holding the history book in his hands. That's the kind of thing that starts wars. I... We can't let this turn into a war, right? Because these shelves are full of stories about how easily wars start.
As 9 opens the box, she triggers the trap that was set within it, and suddenly a small cloud of poisonous gas plumes out from the black wood. She's able to hold her breath as the box drops from her grip, preventing her from breathing in too much of the noxious fumes, waving the cloud away as it eventually dissipates into the air around her. There is still a sense of nausea from the poison in the air, but 9 was able to resist its effects.
The sound of dropping wood would alert the others to this trap, as well as the added noise of sharp clanging metal as a dagger fell across the floor. The only other content from the box that could be seen is a folded piece of parchment now peaking out from beneath the black wooden box now resting at 9's feet.
9 hands the dagger to Nemeia, “I think you can see what this thing is, right? Well, we know it’s a dagger, but just in case.”, as she still is interrupted by seldom coughs amd waving motions. She leans down to pick up the parchment and see if the there is anything written on it.
9 - As you pick up the dagger, you do notice some interesting markings on it, you can roll a Religion check to see what you recognize
Nemeia- You'll need to Identify both the dagger and the wand to know what they are, you can also try an Arcana check to learn more
As for the parchment, you can unfold it to reveal it is a simple map, it seems to lead to a cave in the mountains outside of the city, though it's not too far away. It has numerous symbols and notes written on it. Nemeiawill recognize some of the writing is Infernal.
You can make an Arcana or Investigation check to see what else you can figure out.
Kal paces around the room clearly nervous while the others search. He and Khorz had parted ways from time to time in the past, so that wasn't what unsettled him. It was the situation. He looks out a barred window then moves to the next. "Some traps are less obvious than others. And the bait here is certainly to our taste. I think we should take what we've found and get moving. People who plan to overthrow a kingdom aren't...sloppy."
The swordsman paces again to glance waywardly out onto the surrounding grounds trying to think of what he knows of Lynanserian politics and goals. "...what are we missing." He says mostly to himself.
Witt- You actually find quite a lot of books on the history of Lynansera, along with a long list of noble families, from the Ilana to the Thal'Warin, there seems to be countless of noble and royal lineages in Lynansera alone, much less the rest of Glyphwood. Interestingly there's absolutely no mention of any real conflicts with Tarrin. While their ore is useful, you get the sense that, in these books at least, much of the sentiment of Lynanseran aristocrats is that Tarrin is mostly an ugly swap, its primary value as a place where the wastes of their own kingdom might end up. From everything you would have discovered here, it wouldn't make much sense of anyone in Lynansera to have any interest in Tarrin.
Witt relays all this to the group with a slight air of 'nobles are weird, what would anyone expect?'. I think we should follow the map. It may be that it was left here to lead us to a trap. Everything else here has been a trap. But we have survived the others, and with the Watcher's grace we shall survive this! Witt is ready to leave.
Sora looked back at 9, concerned by whatever it was she had triggered, but she was relieved that the elf seemed unaffected. She then turned back to Witt, nodding in agreement. "You have a point, we got what we came for. No point sticking around here and running into even more traps. We can rest up then check out this place on the map later." She set about gathering all of the incriminating documents she could find, there would be a number of people who would be interested in this, that much was certain. Once all of the evidence is collected, she would join the rest who are ready to leave.
(sorry for my absence over the weekend! I need to get better at checking in)
Nemeia frowns and says, "I didn't bring the right pieces to be able to identify the magics."You can tell that she's rather frustrated with herself at not having that set with her. "I'll make sure to make a new piece tonight so that it's ready for tomorrow. I've seen lots of magical items though working in the shops. Maybe I can see something special about them."
Arcana check: 10
When Nemeia spots some of the words on the paper in infernal, she seems to get excited. "Oh! That's infernal. My parents always sung my bedtime songs in infernal. It's such a beautiful language when done properly. Let me have a look at it."
Investigation: 9
When she hears the thoughts on Tarrin she seems rather shocked. "Wastes? There are plenty of wonderful places across Tarrin. It's not all just a swamp!"
9 shows the box to everyone else as she attempts to open it and inspect the insides.

9 - Though you don't recognize the symbol on it, you're very sure this is a magic dagger or some sort, specifically something that uses poison magic.
